Question:
I purchased this part from etrailer and am very impressed in the way it is built and overall integrity of the piece,, however I am less than impressed in the color coding or positioning of the wires, we all know that for ever in every applications whether it is a huge tractor trailer to a lawnmower trailer you have your standard colors, yellow left turn, green right turn brown running lights, red stop lights etc,,,who came up with the horrendous color scheme for this pigtail, and why, and how and where can I get one that has semi standard colors used in it,, Thank You, Jake Gingerich

There are traditional and standard wiring configurations and that can be frustrating when working with electrical connectors. We try to always remind customers to check wiring for function and not to rely on the color of the wires for that reason. The standard connectors are typically wired for fifth wheel and travel trailers and the traditional is typically used for utility and cargo trailers.
I have attached a couple drawings that show the wiring configurations for standard, traditional, and heavy-duty connectors you can check out. If the connector you received has the standard wiring you can swap pins in the connector to change the wiring to the traditional if that is what is needed. You would just swap the green and brown wires and swap the yellow and red wires to get a traditional connector.
We do have other connectors like part # 50-87-004, or part # 50-87-007, but they may be wired exactly as the 50-87-009 you said you purchased.
