Installing the Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera on a 2014 Nissan Frontier

Updated 01/25/2016 | Published 01/23/2016

Question:

I am interested in the Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera, its monitor size and systems. I like a wired system as the Truck has Blue Tooth and everybody says that interferes with a wireless system. I like the fact that the power system for both has one source. I watched your hookup video on the red 2010 Titan, which looked easy due to using a tee hookup 7 way fitting at an existing 7 way fitting. I liked that which avoids some unqualified jerk me cutting and splicing my trucks wiring. Unfortunately, what they used on my 2014 Frontier SV with Trailer package looks like they used a 4 way a square looking electrical fitting to 7 way plug in fitting installed right at the plug in plate. Having not seen the tee fitting IN MY HAND, my question is: Is there a way to use that different looking plug in plate with the 7 way T fitting that comes at the electrical hook up part of the Hopkins Camera system?

Without seeing the 2014 Nissan Frontier 7-Way disassembled I can't say for sure if there is a way to tee into the back of the connector. But even if you can't it is still easy enough to tap into the reverse light circuit.

The reverse lights on a 7-Way will be the middle pin. Find the wire associated with the center pin in the connector that plugs into the back of the 7-Way. Then you would just need to use a quick splice connector such as # SWC501746-1 to tap in the backup camera wire to the reverse wire.

I have included a link to a video showing a hardwire installation for you. Its actually done on my old car with no kind of trailer connector at all so you really get to see a complete hardwire. On your Frontier it will be much easier than on this car.
