Question:

We have a new 2016 Touraeg gas with factory tow package. Looking for recommendations and instructions on wireless or wired brake controller.

For your 2016 Volkswagen Touareg with factory tow package and 7-Way connector you can use any of the wired brake controllers shown on the linked page. For a highly-rated and reliable controller I suggest the Prodigy P3 # 90195 or the similar P2 # 90885 that you referenced. They are very similar but the P3 includes some additional user-friendly features such as a larger display and storable settings.

Installation is detailed in the linked article. A wired controller will require purchase of additional components from your VW dealer and will take a bit of wiring.

If you prefer to avoid this more complex installation then instead use the Curt Echo # C51180 which will simply plug in to your 7-Way and pair to your smart phone via Bluetooth. The Echo will still provide the same proportional braking of your trailer that is found in the P2 and P3. An install video for the Echo is provided below.
