Why Dont Trailer Hangers Come with Bushings.

Question:
I asked a question a day ago about why the Dexter HD Wet Bolt Upgrade Kit has 6 bolts but only 4 bushings. The question was answered by Victoria B that the 4 bushings go in the spring eyes, which I already knew. Then I went on your site to look at the dimensions of the Redline 30-20 Rear Hanger with a steel bushing thru the center that apparently is 9/16inch I.D, so the 11/16inch O.D. bronze bushings would not fit inside. My question is why is there no rear hanger that you weld on permanently that you can put a replaceable bushing into? Even greased, steel on steel with the same molecular structure will not wear as well as dissimilar materials do. It seems to be a waste of money to buy the Dexter Kit if you still have a weak link at the rear hanger.

Expert Reply:
The # 30-20 hanger is a unique hanger as it comes with it's own bushing that has an inner diameter of 9/16 inches and installs in a different orientation than most.
Like Victoria said, the reason most standard style hangers do not come with bushings is because the bushings are on the spring side of the equation.
While what you said is true about wear with dissimilar materials, the reality is that hangers don't wear out at a fast enough rate to warrant a different approach. We rarely hear about hangers wearing out where the bolt runs through them. Normally they get replaced from either too much rust on other portions of the hanger or people want to change the height of the trailer.

I’ve had to replace mine 4 times, from either the hole wearing out, or the hanger just tearing itself apart. A bushing would definitely help. But most trailers are built like crap.
