Weight Distribution System Recommendation Sagging Rear Suspension of a 2008 GMC Yukon XL

Updated 10/30/2015 | Published 10/29/2015

Question:

2008 yukon Denali lx 1500 with auto leveling system. I put after market air shock in that are supposed to hold a tongue weight of 1000. I still have a saggy back end when towing. I am looking for a little more support when I tow my 6900 lb trailer but not when I am driving in town. Can I install the ride-rite air springs on this vehicle? Thoughts?

I actually have a much better solution for your 2008 GMC Yukon XL. Suspension enhancement will give the rear suspension more support when towing, but a weight distribution system is actually the better solution. Not only will it give your rear suspension more support but it will also distribute the tongue weight of the trailer partially up to the front axle so that handling and braking will get improved.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

Once you know your tongue weight you will want to check out the link I attached that has all of the weight distribution systems we carry. You will be able to select your tongue weight from the filters to see what would be rated for your setup.

Also, there are no Firestone Ride Rite kits confirmed to fit your vehicle because it is a 1500.
