Question:
Can I flat tow a 1999 Dodge Dakota behind my motorhome? Manual trans? Automatic Trans? Four wheel drive? Two wheel drive? I will assume the length of the bed makes no difference. I have a Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain tow bar but what would I need for the attachment on the truck? Thanks

It looks like you can flat tow a 1999 Dodge Dakota 4x4 if it has a 4 cylinder motor and manual transmission. I cannot verify if any other versions of this truck can be flat towed. You would have to consult the owner's manual.
If you end up with a model that can be flat towed then for base plates use # 246-5 or # 246-6. These base plates are compatible with your Falcon All-Terrain tow bar, # RM-522. For safety cables use # RM-645 if you do not already have some.
For lighting I recommend using a magnetic kit # RM-2120 because it is inexpensive, easy to use, and it bypasses the vehicle wiring. This light kit has a 4-Way flat connector. If your RV does not have a 4-Way flat receptacle then you can use an adapter. Your RV likely has a 7-Way blade style connector so you could use # PK12716. If your RV has a different connector let me know.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the preferred systems for our installers is the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional system, # SM99251. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
Be sure to consult your vehicle owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
