Question:
Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver 13703\ Good Day I have a Jayco 185RB the frame that I would need to bolt thru is only 3 inches wide your product mounting plate is 4 7/8 inches . Could you advise if this could be cut to 3inch and probably necessitate drilling two new holes on the upper side of mount. Also could the frame be drilled thru to eliminate the access hole concern is for loss of frame strength as 1 1/2 hole is big on a 3inch frame Thanks for your time

The frame mounting flanges on Curt hitch # 13703 measure 12-inches front-to-back and 4-7/8-inches high (high, not wide, please note). These are intended to contact the bottom and outer surfaces of the trailer's frame members. The hitch will fit frames from 22- to 72-inches wide. My technical contact at Curt confirmed that drilling new holes or in any other way modifying the hitch mounting bracket could alter its capacity. Since no testing has been done on a modified bracket Curt cannot offer an assurances of the effects of such a modification.
They also offer an RV hitch # C13701 that fits frames from 18- to 51-inches wide and that mounts only to the underside of the RV frame, not to its sides. This may offer a better fit. This hitch also offers higher tongue weight (TW) and gross trailer weight capacities.
I suggest you contact Jayco with your trailer's VIN and ask for their input on the installation of a hitch. This will help ensure you do not void any warranty on your trailer's frame.
