How to Remove Studs of Spare Tire Carrier # DL22145 to use with 6 Lug Wheel
Updated 08/11/2015 | Published 08/10/2015 >
Question:
I have a 6 lug hole spare tire to mount that fits the specs for the Dutton-Lainson Model 6126 trailer spare tire mount. On the direction form it says to use with 6-hole rims, remove the mounting studs and re-install in the three unused holes. I see what theyre talking about, but how do I best remove the mounting studs and get them securely into the vacant holes? The back of the mounting stud bolt is round and seems to be attached pretty well. Thanks

To use the Extra Offset Trailer Spare Tire Carrier # DL22145 with a rim that has a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern you will need to drive out the studs on the carrier face with a hammer and then drive them back into the other holes of the carrier.
It would be a similar process as replacing wheel studs on a car or trailer hub. You would just need to hit the studs with a hammer squarely like a nail and they will come out. These won't be pressed that hard into the carrier so it shouldn't take too much effort.
