Recommended Spare Tire Carrier for a Tear Trailer

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 11/11/2025

Question:

I am looking to add a spare tire to my tear trailer. It will be mounted on the side of the trailer. Will this work? Want to minimize the drilling to the trailer walls and keep it waterproof.

Hey SC. So long as you can find an open spot on your frame or tongue and have tires 15" or smaller with a 4 or 5 lug nut pattern the Tie Down U-Bolt Spare Tire Mount w/ Brackets item # TD38FR will work. It clamps around 3" wide frames so there's no drilling involved.

What size is your spare and what lug nut pattern does it have? We have a couple other options that may work better like the Fulton item # FHDSTC0101 and the Tie-Down item # TD26FR.

You can add this information and any other questions you have where it says Reply to Jerred H and I'll be happy to answer them.

I want to mount to the sidewall not to the frame as shown in this picture above. The sidewall is wood - I think 1 inch wood with an aluminum layer on top. Question is whether this bolt will be able to support the weight. Do I need to find another design that has holes further apart?

@Sc The Tie Down U-Bolt Spare Tire Mount w/ Brackets item # TD38FR is designed to be attached to the frame. It's not going to work on the side of your trailer. I do not have an option that does because those wooden studs aren't meant for that purpose.
