To tow the 2002 Dodge Durango behind a 2007 GMC Yukon, I recommend the more economical choice of using a tow bar. First, you will need RoadMaster MX Base Plate Kit, # 266-3, for the Durango. Please note that the available base plate kits only fit 4 wheel drive models. You can then use RoadMaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar, # RM-520. This tow bar does not require a hitch ball on the tow vehicle. It fits into a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver. I have included a video review of this tow bar below.
You would then need to add safety cables, like the RoadMaster 68 Inch Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables, # RM-643, as required by law.
You will also need a light kit for the Durango. For a temporary lighting solution, use the Magnetic Towing Light Kit, # RM-2120. These lights have a magnet that will stick to a flat metal surface and plug into a 4-flat on the tow vehicle. For a more permanent solution, I recommend the Tail Light Isolating Diode System with Wiring Harness, # 38955. I have included an installation video and demonstration video of this kit below.
To add a braking system to the towed vehicle, a good choice is the Roadmaster 9400 Portable Braking System, # RM-9400.
Finally, you will need to check with the manufacturer for instructions on the proper procedure for towing your vehicle because some vehicles must be equipped with a transmission lube pump, an axle disconnect, drive line disconnect, or free-wheeling hubs before they can be towed. You will also need to check the towing capacity of your Yukon in the owners manual and make sure you do not exceed manufacturer specifications.
But you really cannot beat the ease and simplicity of a tow dolly. The tow dolly we carry is the RoadMaster Tow Dolly with Electric Brakes, # RM-2050-1. With the tow dolly, you will not have to install base plates on the Durango, attach a tow bar, or worry about adding a braking system to the Durango. The tow dolly comes with electric brakes. If your Yukon has a brake controller, you will be able to use it with the tow dolly.
