I checked a couple of different resources and it looks like the factory roof rack and crossbars on a 2012 Chevy Equinox are rated for 150 pounds. But you will want to check the vehicle owners manual and/or Chevy to confirm that number.
If it is 150 pounds you should be able to carry 2 kayaks on J-style carriers easily. The Yakima JayLow, # Y04073, is listed as a direct fit for your vehicle. You can use this carrier for 2 kayaks, one will sit on the cradles and one will need to be strapped to the opposite side. I have linked a video review of this carrier for you.
If you will be carrying 2 kayaks with this one carrier you will also need some additional straps, # Y05006 and additional bow/stern tie downs, # Y04031. When carrying 2 kayaks the capacity is 110 pounds for the carrier.
Yakima Bow/Stern Tie-Down Ropes w/ Ratchets and Strap Loops - 1/4" x 12' - 150 lbs - Qty 2
Yakima Cinch Straps w/ Padded Cam Buckles - 16' Long - Qty 2
Yakima JayLow Kayak Carrier w/ Tie-Downs - J-Style or Post Style - Folding - 1 or 2 Kayaks
