Do 3 Leaf Springs Have Thicker Leaves than 4 Leaf Springs

Updated 05/22/2015 | Published 05/21/2015

Question:

Is a 3500# 3-leave spring a thicker stock steel than a 3500# 4-leave spring. Possibly not rusting out in salt water as fast. Thanks!

I went out into our warehouse to measure the leaf thickness of both the 3-Leaf Spring part # e57SR and the 4-Leaf part # e54SR.

The 3-leaf spring has a leaf thickness of .40 of an inch whereas the 4-leaf has a thickness of .30 of an inch.

Saltwater will corrode both unfortunately, but it is possible that the thicker springs would last longer before failure.
