How to Determine Which Replacement Wheel Bearings and Grease Seals are Needed for Trailer Hubs

Question:
Hi, I am going to re-pack/replace my boat trailer wheel bearings, and was wondering what measurements I need to make to find the size of the bearing/seals without taking the whole thing apart first.

If you're planning on repacking the bearings, you'll need to take everything apart anyhow. Might as well do it now, since it'll be necessary to determine which bearings you need.
The easiest way to find replacement bearings and seals would be to get the reference numbers off the inner and outer wheel bearings and the diameter of the spindle where the grease seal rides. If you can't find the reference numbers, measure the spindle diameter where both the inner and outer bearings ride. To take these measurements, you'll need a highly accurate measuring tool, such as a digital caliper. I'll link you to a photo that shows exactly what needs to be measured.
With this information, I would be happy to recommend replacements for you. I'll link you to an FAQ article that shows how to repack trailer bearings, if you're not familiar with the process.
