Question:
I dont think corrosion has anything to do with it since its been doing it since it was brand new Trailer disconnect warning comes on when trailer is not connected

I checked on Ford truck message boards and the most common two reasons the Trailer Disconnect Warning comes on is either that there is corrosion or water in the trailer connector, there is a short on the wiring behind the trailer's connector or the magnets of the trailer are going out. The last one would be if the trailer was actually connected and the alert was going off.
Most likely the problem is corrosion or exposed wire on either the front or back of the truck's trailer connector.
