An example of sag on a truck's rear axle under a heavy load. The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System levels the vehicle.

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in the cargo area or by pulling a trailer, you will often see the rear sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but more of the truck's weight, as well. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system has a custom-fit bracket that will be bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, one inch above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping the truck level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to the truck. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Compared to the Competition

Timbren's suspension enhancement systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Have not tested it out yet, but the installation took about 15 minutes by myself, looking forward to trying them out with my 28ft enclosed trailer. You will need a block of wood under them when you let the jack down to seat them in the cups fully there is no way you can snap them in by hand, the video had that great suggestion 199076

Had the TDR1500DQ suspension kit for a year now and have been pleased. I carry a few hundred pounds of equipment all day during the week at work, and pull a travel trailer on weekends. These were a simple enhancement for my 2016 Ram 1500 crew cab. Only took a few minutes to install and they work great at leveling out the truck when hauling and keep the soft ride the rest of the time. Would definitely buy again. 425117

Fast shipping and great customer service! Install time was 12 minutes on a 2011 Ram 1500 crew cab. Started with drivers side, jacked the truck using frame, placed suspension in place, placed two 2x4 slabs under Timbren, let jack down, placed jack under axle and jacked the axle to seat the Suspension. Did the same on passenger side. Simple and no maintenance like air bags. 32666

These work great on my 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 towing a 27’ travel trailer. They definitely bear the load better than the OEM installed mounts. These should be standard equipment on trucks. Or at the very least an option in an Outdoorsman package.

2016 Dodge Ram Pickup

I was expecting this to be more difficult than it turned out. It took me about 1/2 hour to do on my 2016 Ram 1500 crew cab. I used a jack under the hitch to lift the bed about 3". The original yellow bumpers came off so easy that I can't imagine why they hadn't fallen out on their own. I got the new bumpers started in the retainer cup, placed 2 pieces of 2x4 blocks under them and lowered the bed, letting the weight push them all the way in. I have 1 1/4" gap between the bottom of the bumpers and the frame. I was expecting them to be a little closer to contact. It definitely has no effect on the ride with no load. I haven't yet hooked up my travel trailer to see what 900 lbs on the hitch will do. I bought these because my truck squatted down like it had a ton in the bed instead of just 900 lbs on the hitch. 447973

I have a T.T. 8,300 max. loaded rating, am usually 8,000 like you with 825 lbs tongue weight, have Sherline tongue scales. Went from 1998 Ram 2500 HD suspension 60 leaf springs. 312/15 got 2015 Ram 1500 with coil springs. Truck is loaded to capacity. When hook up trailer got really serious sguat to it. I tow at 60 to 65 max. Stay at 60mph for better fuel economy with V-6 Ecodiesel. Have only towed 767 miles avg. 18 mph. Nick did you by chance take measurements before and after on your truck squat. I use Reese weight distribution set up. I am still tweaking my W.D. set up, new truck sit about 1.25 to 1.5 lower than old Ram 2500. By the way what are you towing with ?

I did not write down any measurements before or after spring install sorry. I have a WD hitch as well by EZ load I pull with a 2013 Ram 1500, 5.7 L Hemi. Sorry I couldnt be more help, I took measurements when installing the springs but I didnt write them down and its been a few weeks so I dont remember. My recollection is that they took about 0.5 inch of squat out, and the ride was MUCH smoother.

Intall was very easy, took about 20 minutes with a floor jack, jack stands and a medium size screw driver to get old ones out. Have not hooked up trailer yet so can't say how well it keeps truck from sagging. I also have the airlift 1000 which were not heavy duty enough to handle my camper by themselves, failed twice. They do help lift back end slightly and firm the ride when empty. Combination should cover all my needs. 99257

2013 Dodge Ram Pickup

These are the second set of Timbren SES I have purchased, the first being for a 2006 Nissan Titan and these for a 2013 Dodge Ram. Both were purchased in order to pull a fifth wheel camper and minimize the "squatting " issue. I am very pleased with the result. Installation on the Dodge was literally a 5 minute breeze as there are no nuts and bolts to remove. Just popped out the old ones and pushed these into place. Lowering the fifth wheel onto the bed secured them into place. The ride is impacted slightly when not pulling the camper, but as these install so easily, I will be able to put the OEM parts back into place with ease when not towing to soften the ride. I highly recommend for anyone pulling heavy loads. 87257

Hi Jerry, you just reinforced my decision. My wife bought a 7000gvw horse trailer bumper pull, so my lil 2wd ram short bed swatted at the sight I bought and installed these ant the tow levels changed immediately. The empty weight can be a bit jarring and I was considering the same, take them out for the next 3-4 months winter in mass. And stick em back in in the spring. Glad I saw your review. Thanks, Mort T

I have installed the Timbren SES on my 2012 Ram 1500. Total time including removal of OEM bumpers was 45 minutes. I added a preliminary step to the installation procedures. I cleaned the receptacle where the OEM bumper was located to remove the dirt and residue. That made the new parts slide into position easily. I used a small wood block as suggested to ensure complete seating of the new bumpers. They fit perfectly. I have approximately 1.25" of clearance between the bumpers and the rest. Can't wait to get my trailer hooked up to see how they perform. Excellent service as always from etrailer! 361463

2011 Dodge Ram Pickup

A heavy workload on a Ram 1500 will cause the truck to squat with just 1 inch of clearance in the wheel-well. The stock suspension is soft and it feels precarious when under load. I would not say that Ram dropped the ball on their suspension since many of their 1500 customers do not load the truck down to use it to its rated capacity and the soft ride appeals to a large segment of drivers who cannot find it in other trucks. However, it seems that the Timbren bump stops are what should be on the truck if you are not getting a 2500 or 3500 but need to tow and haul. The Timbren rear enhancement system immediately improves the handling on the Ram 1500 and stands up even when placing it under load. It is almost like buying a whole new truck. I cannot compliment this product enough and I am extremely pleased with how the truck handles both loaded and unloaded. It is not too stiff and it does not feel bumpy like other enhancements might. But it feels sturdy and the truck feels stronger almost right away. I could have gone with a different distributor for these parts but etrailer.com is more than just a distributor. You can find official etrailer.com videos on most of their products which will give you honest information on their products and explain how to install and use those products. If you have a question, you will get a reply from them with an expert on the subject. They are interested in finding you solutions first and the sales are just a byproduct from their expertise. I did not find these parts cheaper anywhere else, but I still would have gone with etrailer.com even if they cost a little more. I chose etrailer.com because I know I can trust them to get me the good stuff. 510713

Installed these exactly as the instructions and YouTube video on the website said. First time I took the truck down the road one fell out. I was kind of worried about this when I installed them as they didn't seem to fit the socket all that well. Pretty expensive experience. Highly NOT Recommended. 237785

Update - After a couple mis-communications, I got some advice on how to trim the upper lip of the Timbren spring so that it would fit into the bump stop socket. Once I got them properly seated, they work fine and improve the load carrying capability of my new Ram quite a bit. I was pretty upset with the email response I got when I asked for help, but somebody followed up with a phone call and actually understood the problem I was having and told me how to fix it. Thats pretty rare these days.

2013 Dodge Ram Pickup

These "enhanced" bump-stops have definitely improved the ride quality of my 2013 Ram 1500 quad cab when pulling our 7500 lb. 29 foot travel trailer. The trailer probably has 500+ pounds of food, clothes, kids toys, etc inside as well. The truck bed probably has another 800'ish pounds of equipment in it that compresses the suspension before I even hook the trailer up. With the stock stops the rear suspension hardly moved. After adding the new stops, the rear suspension had travel again and the steering felt less twitchy. Unloaded truck will hit the new stops only if I hit a pretty harsh bump but it's only noticeable if you're paying attention to it. With a loaded bed (no trailer) hitting the stops is more noticeable but you still need to hit a decent bump for them to touch. They are very easy to install. Take the time to read the instructions and watch the installation video before you pay someone $50-$75 for a 15-20 minute job. I would buy them again. 482362

I first read a number of reviews with regard to the TDR1500DQ and saw a video on its installation. • Spacers for Installing Timbren Rear Axle Jounce Helper Springs in Lifted Ram 1500
The Timbren rear-axle helper jounce spring kit # TDR1500DQ is a confirmed fit for your 2015 Ram 1500 and when installed the bottom of each jounce spring should sit about 1-inch above your axle when the truck bed is unloaded (and with no trailer hitched). If you do need some we offer 1-inch spacer # A25723-90AH00 which has a 3/8-inch hole and 1-inch spacer # TA25723-90AD00 which has a 1/2-inch hole. You may need to locally source longer bolts. The spring should not contact the axle...

  • Could Timbren Suspension Enhancement Fit 2019 Ram Rebel
In 2019 air suspension was optional for the 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel models like what you have so you'd need to determine what style of suspension you have. The suspension kits we offer for your truck like the Timbren # TDR1500DQ do not fit with the air suspension. We don't have anything similar that would either. But if you have standard coil suspension these kits would work well.

  • Timbrens For 2020 Ram 1500 With Rear Sag Towing Heavier Fifth Wheel Trailer
There is a Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System that is compatible with the 2020 Ram 1500 4WD with part # TDR1500DQ as confirmed by Timbren. Since you are experiencing rear sag I do recommend to use the Timbrens because they are the best option to reduce the sag. They are made of a dense rubber material that increases the stability of the suspension when hauling heavier loads. They also act as a shock absorber to extend the life of your suspension. The SumoSprings Rebel Springs...

  • Recommended Rear Timbren Springs for 2019 Ram 1500 2WD Towing Travel Trailer
The best Timbren Suspension Kit for your 2019 Ram 1500 2WD is the Rear Springs # TDR1500DQ. These will provide plenty of support for the tongue weight from your new trailer, as they have robust 8,600 pound weight capacity. I'm not sure how tall the factory bump stops are on your Ram, but I can tell you the Timbren springs have an overall height of 5-1/2" (see attached image). Ideally you will maintain 1 to 1-1/2" of clearance between the spring and contact point after installation....

  • How do you Determine the Tongue Weight for a Weight Distribution Hitch
The tongue weight of a weight distribution hitch like the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control part # FA94-00-0600 is calculated by adding the tongue weight of your fully loaded trailer and anything you have loaded behind the rear axle of the towing vehicle. The one listed above is rated for 400-600 lbs. of TW. The systems vary in capacity and can be matched to your application. One like the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control part # FA92-00-1000...

  • Will Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement TDR1500DQ Work on 2019 Ram 1500 to Reduce Sag
On your 2019 Ram 1500 the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDR1500DQ that you referenced is going to do a really great job of reducing the rear sag you're experiencing when hooked up to the 5th wheel trailer. Please just note that these particular springs won't fit the Regular Cab models of the 1500. The durable jounce-style springs are simply going to replace the truck's factory bounce stops. They are nearly twice the size of the OEM units (both in height and width) and...

  • Can Timbren Suspension Enhancement Fit 2016 Ram 1500 with Lift Kit
Yes, Timbren does offer spacers that allow a lifted truck like your 2016 Ram 1500 use a Timbren kit like the # TDR1500DQ and still have the correct amount of distance between the frame and the Timbren spring. For a 1 inch spacer you'd need the part # A25723-90AH00 and then for a 1/2 inch spacer you'd need the part # TA25722-90P00. The spacers are sold individually so you'd need to order a quantity that matches the space you need to take up for each side of the axle. So if the distance...

  • Installation Process for Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement on 2016 Ram 1500
The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDR1500DQ that you referenced is a great solution for adding rear support to your 2016 Ram 1500 to help with the tongue weight from your 26 foot camper. The springs are indeed just going to replace the factory bump stops on the truck. The install process is basically exactly what you described in your question. You will need to first pry out the existing bump stops out of the bump stop cup. Then, using a generous amount of soapy water,...

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement System for a 2017 Ram 1500
For your 2017 Ram 1500, I recommend using the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDR1500DQ. The newer Ram trucks have coil springs in the rear as opposed to the standard leaf spring setup. The coil springs are great for handling and ride comfort but not the best for towing as they have a tendency to sag. The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System will do an excellent job of taking some the rear end sag out of your Ram while towing. The best thing about the springs...

  • Comparing the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancements and Air Lift AirCell Custom Helper Springs
The main difference between the discontinued Air Lift AirCell Custom Helper Springs Kit part # AL52205 and the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDR1500DQ is the hardness of material. The Timbren's are made of a much harder material than the AirCell's. This means that the Timbren's will provide more support but they may also have a rougher ride. Please note that the quality of the ride would only be affected while loaded. I personally like the Timbren's better and they...

  • How Do Timbrens Affect the Unloaded Ride On a 2016 Ram 1500
In regards to ride quality, this would be unaffected while unloaded unless going over bumps or large dips in the road. The correct Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System for a 2016 Ram 1500 is part # TDR1500DQ. That said, when this happens I do have to agree that the ride can be rather bouncy. However, I have the perfect solution for you in the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-307-47. The SumoSprings are not as firm as the Tumbrens so they will not be as rough when...

  • Suspension Enhancement to Reduce Suspension Sag
The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement system you referenced, part # TDR1500DQ might be a good choice for you, depending on what is causing the suspension to sag in the first place. If the suspension is sagging because of cargo carried in the truck bed or cargo area, the Timbrens would be an excellent choice. When the truck bed or cargo area is unloaded, they are typically sitting a bit above the axle and have no effect on the vehicle ride until its loaded. Once load is added to the...

  • Difference Between TDR1500DQ and TDRTT1500 Timbren Kit for 2013 Ram 1500
The difference is the weight capacity of each. They both fit the 2013 Ram 1500 like what you have, but the part # TDRTT1500 has a 7k lb capacity and the # TDR1500DQ has a capacity of 8,600 lbs. For what you are doing the lighter capacity will be the way to go. It will give you the support you need but won't be nearly as harsh as the 8.6k kit.

  • Will Timbren Suspension Enhancement Reduce Sag on a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500
I spoke with my contact at Timbren and she said your pickup will have to sink one inch in the rear before the Rear Suspension Enhancement System, part # TDR1500DQ, engages. However, if you are looking for something that will take out the sag at the rear end of the pickup when connected to a travel trailer then the best option is weight distribution. But if it is a 5th wheel trailer you will be towing then suspension enhancement would be the way to go. Since the tongue weight is about...

  • How to Choose the Correct Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement for a 2012 Ram 1500
The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement part # TDR1500DQ is an excellent option for your 2012 Ram 1500 as long it is not a regular cab. If you do have a regular cab then you will want to use the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDR1500DS. The higher the weight capacity the spring is rated for, the stiffer the spring will be. A softer spring will result in a better ride quality but a stronger spring will give you more support. For your 10,000 lb car trailer, I recommend...

  • Does Weight Capacity for Timbrens Affect Weight Capacity of Vehicle they are Installed In
The weight capacity of the Timbren kits are not actual increases in towing capacity. They basically are how much support they can provide. But at the same time they do not change the overall capacity of the truck. They basically can provide support that will help the vehicle carry it's own capacity better. For your 2016 Ram 1500 the part # TDR1500DQ will work and help you reduce sag greatly. I attached an install video for more info for you to check out as well.
