Features to know about

Keep Your Ride Level Under Load: Up to 1,000 lbs of Rear Suspension Support

A loaded bed or trailer can cause the rear to squat and throw off your balance. These SumoSprings Solo helper springs add up to 1,000 lbs of support at 50-percent compression, helping your suspension stay level when hauling or towing. The progressive microcellular urethane compresses easily at first for a smooth ride and stiffens as the load increases to keep you steady under heavier weight. Steering, braking, and headlight aim stay consistent, even with a full load.

Smooth Out the Bumps and Shocks: Progressive Load Control

Rough roads and trailer bounce can wear on both you and your suspension. The closed-cell urethane construction cushions impacts like a built-in shock absorber, dampening road vibration and softening harsh hits. With lighter loads the springs engage softly for comfort, while heavier loads bring firmer compression—up to 80 percent—to maintain stability without bottoming out.

Comparison image showing SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs installed on a vehicle rear axle, one compressed under load and one uncompressed to illustrate progressive load control and suspension support.

Stay Steady in Crosswinds and Turns: Independent Spring Action

When a curve or gust pushes you around, each SumoSpring acts on its own side of the axle to keep your ride flat. This independent action helps control body roll in sharp turns and keeps off-center loads from tipping your balance. The result is a more planted feel whether you’re cornering on pavement or turning into a driveway with uneven ground.

Install It Once and Forget About Maintenance: Simple No-Drill Design

You won’t have to mess with air lines or pressure gauges. These SumoSprings mount in place of the factory bump stops using included brackets—no drilling or extra hardware needed. They compress vertically with minimal side expansion, so they fit cleanly in tight spaces and aren’t easily damaged by nearby parts. Built from durable urethane that resists oil, salt, and UV damage, they deliver long-term support without leaks or upkeep.

Really nice product. Ordered two sets, one for my 2011 Titan and for my Dad's 09 Titan. Helps maintain ride height when towing a trailer and the ride is still like factory, not too stiff.

Springs are still great, doing their job

by:

My Nissan frontier would ride on the bump blocks when loaded so I installed these sumo springs and I have been very happy.
They have made my truck much more useful to me even when I am using it off road on our farm or pulling a trailer.
I would recommend these to anyone who needs a little more support in the rear springs for heavy loads.
The installation was very easy as my Nissan did not even require me to jack up the vehicle, I simply loosened the leaf spring U-bolts and installed the new Sumos.
then I retorqued to the specified value on the U-bolts and that was it was very easy on my truck.
Also the price was very reasonable for the value received, I will definitely shop at etrailer again.

by:

Absolutely love these! Had them on my 2004 Toyota Tundra for a year now and have been extremely impressed of how the truck handles with and without heavy loads. Worth every penny.

They are working out great still after well over a year now. Love how I can carry heavy to extremely heavy loads without the truck sagging down and still rides like a Cadillac

by:

Definitely recommend these helper springs. Have a 2008 Toyota Tacoma and they have a recall on the rear springs. Waiting on appointment now. The truck always had light rear springs. Could feel the springs hitting the stops with just hitting a small bump. I also tow a travel trailer so I needed help. I installed air-lift bags and after 2 bag leaks I had enough. Shop Etrailer where I buy all my towing needs. Bought sumo springs and what a difference with handling and towing. No body roll and no spring bumps. Worth every penny and no worries. Buy sumo and buy them from Etrailer.

by:

Product was delivered and was a breeze to install! A friend happened to be around when I got started and we had them both installed in less than 20 minutes with the help of a car lift available to us. Didn't quite raise the bed of the truck as far as I hoped it would, but still a great product! Guess that's just the Baja Edition? But did find out I might need different shocks so that will be my next step soon.

the prefect solution for my problem. Etrailer was very helpful!

Just finished installing the Sumosprings on my 2015 Toyota tacoma, installation was simple and it only took 1 hour for both sides. The ride feels smoother but the test will be this weekend when I trailer my boat I will send feedback after.

And how did the SomoSprings work out on your Tacoma?

by:

Install was easy, air impact driver helped for sure. Firmer ride empty than expected, but not overly so. From watching videos and reading adds did not expect to notice difference unloaded. Loctite was dried up in tube, was in process of install when I realized that. The true test will come when loaded or RV trailed is being towed. 2005 toyota tacoma trd

Great product, worked as expected.

by:

I originally purchased the yellow sumo for additional support when hauling a small trailer or taking trash to the dump so I wouldn’t strain the vehicles suspension that I just replaced . I also never like to see a truck squat . Yellows were too stiff when unloaded so I got these blues sumo and it was a great decision . The ride type is back to original “comfortable” and the sumo still provides great handling when cornering reducing body sway / shock absorbing bumps. A good investment !

51524 The blue sumos have been working great . Yet like any suspension on a vehicle over time I’ve noticed the gap between the sumos and the frame have moved closer. That being said whenever the vehicle has full passenger weight or cargo it’s a fantastic ride. Without any load you will tend to feel the slight stiffness . The way I corrected that issue is by reducing the size of my Blue sumo by removing about an inch of the product . Will work the same and still be a great investment on prolonging your suspension but will definitely void warranty. I do think they sell a small size but you won’t realize this until you have installed your set . Still would highly recommend .

by:

Very impressed. Stopped the Tacoma lean. Also helped with the trailer. I do use a distribution hitch I bought from etrailer. Just bought the sumo spring for other applications. Those little bitty factory bumps where junk. These help with lean, and off road hard bounce. They are great.

by:

Great product ! Does all it claims and more than i expected. I leave my 5th wheel hitch mounted yr. round and haul bins of sand when I plow in the winter, so it's helping all the time. I can see and feel a difference in hauling our 30 ftr. Doesn't change the ride at all like just about anything else you'd need to do to get the help these give you. Easy install too!

Still goin strong. I’ve had numerous campers even a Tundra owner inquire about what I’ve done to level my truck for the load. It totally out does more springs! When and if they fatigue, I’ll buy em again.

This is the second pair if SumoSprings I have bought. The first pair of springs were Great coming my truck level with support trailering a 26 ft RV. My first truck was totaled last October by a bad driver.
I just bought enough pair SumoSpring in another truck to haul and support a big weight.

Hello, I think they were pretty good, I bought Timbren too I'll need another set soon for my 2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7

by:

Pros:
Easy install
Drastically helps
with sag when towing trailers

Cons:
Things feel more bouncy in the back when not loaded
They get hard as a rock in freezing temperatures (i.e. 15*F = no rear suspension)
No option to unscrew the spring and replace with bump stop for the winter (at least that I can find, tell me if they make one).

Hey Joel. I did some digging into what works for your Tacoma and it doesn't look like we carry anything that is a traditional bump stop. Everything will have similar brackets to this kit.

by:

Working great!

by:

these are working very well for me! I trailer a 5500 pd camper and just love the ride it gives me while pulling with my 2015 tundra.there is a nice gap when truck is not loaded and at normal ride height, sumo spring helper are almost one half inch from truck frame, when normally driving,im real glad for that gap, cause there is no change in suspension when not loaded, and a great help when is!!!

They do their job and loving it. Im able to put max load 1650 lbs on my Tacoma and there is very little sag. Only a small complaint that has to do with the ride when unloaded. I had lay with the adjustable stock absorberá for a while finally findings a suitable ride. With the SUMOs having no clearence between the frame and the springs when installed, they cause a bumpy ride unless the shocks react very fast to attenuate it.

by:

RECIEVED PRODUCT YESTERDAY prepared truck for spring installation cleaned threads on U bolts removed fasteners removed factory stops installed super springs both sides within an hour !!!

by:

Made towing TT with my Toyota Tundra much better. My camper has a tongue weight over 900 pounds. Made bridge crossing and overpasses much smoother.

by:

Very easy to install. Can't wait to hitch my camper and try them out on the road.

by:

I added these to my Tacoma. With the GFC camper, Solar panels, Marine battery and refrigerator in the back of the truck and the weight of the trailer tongue I gained over 2 inches of height in the back after adding the sumo springs. The body roll is much less now as well. The only dissappointment is not with etrailer or the Sumo Springs, it is with UPS. Initially they scheduled the delivery on Wednesday then changed it to Thursday. Thursday came in went and still didnt have it. Finally arrived on Friday. Thanks for the delay UPS.

by:

Instructions were adequate. installer has to contribute to the outcome with bolt cleaning, match marking axle saddle and finding out "u" bolt torque value.
I think the mount should be radiused where the "u" bolt contacts it as opposed to the square edge. Was unnecessary to jack up truck to get clearance to screw on spring, I put a wood between frame and leaf and raised the box 1/2" with a wedge.
I got the ride height I was looking for, the blue springs are very close to offsetting trailer tounge weight allowing for a bit of takeup with my Andersen hitch.
Barely noticeable change in unloaded rear end stiffness.

by:

These Sumo springs are just what I needed for my 2012 Nissan Frontier. We (wife and I) have a A-Liner camper. We have recently replaced torsion axle with a more robust one and also went from C range to D range tires. We needed something to reduce the sag of tongue load. I was unsure about which model to choose but after speaking with friendly, knowledgeable Customer service rep I was assured the 610-40 was the proper option. Test drive went extremely well. Only minimal drop in hitch and no adverse change in ride. Very pleased! Simple to install.

by:

These Sumo Springs were easy to install, even for a 70 year old guy. I tow a 7,000lb camper and even tho I have a nice WDH I still had som sag on my Tundra. These helped level it out when towing and got rid of “some” of the bounce. They were really a godsend when I overloaded the bed with about 2,000lbs of pavers. That weight squished the Sumos significantly but the truck drove and rode great. Better and less expensive than air bags.

Working as expected and with Sumos there is NO MAINTENANCE or adjustments. Just drive and tow.

by:

Installed easily on my 2013 Tacoma, ride without a trailer is still pretty nice, doesn't feel too stiff. Should keep the truck more level towing relatively light trailers. Also restored the original ride height as the Toyota leaf springs seem to sag a little over time.

  • Recommended SumoSprings for a 2007 Toyota Tundra
Hey Eric. To add a set of SumoSprings to your 2007 Toyota Tundra, I recommend the Solo Custom Helper Springs item # SSR-610-40. The SumoSprings are made of a durable microcellular urethane that will progressively increase capacity as the spring is compressed. This will offer a smoother ride as the springs will better absorb the shock but they do not offer the capacity and stability of the...

According to the folks at SuperSprings, there should be a 1/2 to 1-1/2 inches of preload on an unloaded vehicle, so its likely that the suspension on your truck has worn to a small degree over the years. SuperSprings tells me that if the unloaded ride is more firm than you'd like, it's perfectly acceptable to trim a half inch or so from the springs.
