Rear Suspension Support

SumoSprings helper springs are great for RVs or motor homes. Heavy rear loads can cause sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the motor home's weight. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

SumoSprings diagram of installation above existing vehicle spring

Each spring in this kit is bolted to two mounting brackets. One bracket is attached to the frame of your vehicle, and the other bracket is attached to the axle, typically above your existing factory leaf spring. Because each helper spring is in full contact at the top and bottom of the suspension's travel, the expanding and contracting action of the SumoSprings enhances your ride under all conditions, not just when it's loaded. And the closed-cell urethane springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

SumoSprings compressing under load

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

SumoSprings expanding to allow play in the suspension

These springs extend in height by as much as 50 percent to allow more movement in your suspension when you're traveling unloaded, making your ride smoother and more comfortable.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings expand and compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

This kit comes with custom-fit brackets that are designed to easily bolt onto your vehicle.

  • Suspension Enhancement for a 2004 Gulf Stream Independence 8320
Hey Michael, I recommend picking up the SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs # SSR-181-54-1 for your 2004 Gulf Stream Independence 8320 because you install them and then you don't have to mess with them at all after the installation. They just supply more support as more weight is put on them!

  • SumoSprings Versus Timbren Suspension Enhancement For a 2000 National RV Tropi-Cal 6350 Motorhome
I prefer using SumoSprings Rebel Custom Helper Springs # SSF-172-40-2 for the front axle and SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs # SSR-181-54-1 for the rear of your 2000 National RV Tropi-Cal 6350 motorhome. You have a Ford F-53 chassis with a GVWR of 20,500lbs. I find the SumoSprings work better as they are not as stiff as the Timbren Front # TFFF53MH and Rear # TFRF53A suspension. The stiffer ride the Timbrens give you can lead to more issues inside the camper as they do not absorb...

  • Sway Bar and Suspension Enhancement for 2000 Tiffin Allegro Bay 34-Foot Motorhome
We can help you with suspension enhancement for your 2000 Tiffin Allegro Bay that is built on the Ford F-53 chassis. The SuperSprings kits you can use will depend on the coach's GVWR. If your coach has a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26K then it may have a GVWR of more like 22,000-lbs in which case you can use rear axle kit # SSR-181-54-1 which is designed for vehicles with a GVWR between 20,000 and 22,000-lbs. This and similar kits for other coach weights appear on the linked...

  • Suspension Enhancement Kits for 2015 Thor Challenger 37KT Built on Ford F-53 Chassis
We do offer both front- and rear-axle suspension enhancement kits for the 2015 Ford F-53 that can be seen on the link provided. Since it is possible that a 2015 model year RV could be based on a 2014 F-53 you'll want to verify the model year of the base chassis. A separate link is provided for suspension kits for 2014 model year F-53s. The products referenced fit both model years. For a 2015 F-53 we offer hollow rubber springs # TFFF53B from Timbren. No air spring kits are offered for...

  • Suspension Enhancement to Reduce Sag and Roll on a 2000 Hurricane Motorhome Ford F53 Chassis
First, if your RV is sagging because the suspension is worn, you will need to have the suspension fixed before adding springs. Suspension enhancement systems are designed to be installed on a vehicle with suspension that is in good working order. Once you are sure your suspension is in good working order I recommend using a system with a higher capacity. For a higher capacity system, 16K to 22K, use # SSR-181-54-1. This system will reduce sag and help reduce side to side roll. Using...

  • SumoSprings Helper Springs Fit for 1999 Fleetwood Bounder Motor Home on F-53 Chassis
For your 1999 F-53 chassis, there are 2 different SumoSprings help spring options, and the correct kit for your motor home will depend on the vehicle's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). If your motor home's GVWR is between 16,000 pounds and 18,000 pounds, you will want to use the SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs, Rear Axle # SSR-185-40-1. These springs have a weight capacity of 3,000 pounds. No drilling is required to install this kit and the installation instructions are linked...

For your 2003 Class A motorhome on a 2002 Ford F-53 chassis with a 20.5K GVWR, you'll want to use the SumoSprings # SSR-181-54-1. This helper spring system is designed for motorhome chassis with GVWR's between 20 and 22K lbs. I've linked to a product video for the SumoSprings product I recommended.

  • Helper Springs for a Tiffin Motor Home on a 2014 Ford F-53 Chassis
The Sumo Springs for the 2014 Ford F-53 chassis only fit the 16K to 22K chassis models but I do have an excellent option for you. Since your chassis is rated for 24K you can use Air Lift air bags, # AL88344, for the rear and # TFFF53B for the front. The front item is not an air bag system, it is a replacement bump stop. There are no air bags for the 24K chassis. The benefit of air bags over fixed rubber springs is that you can adjust the air bags by adding or removing air for the best...

  • Which SumoSprings Model Do I Need for My 1997 Holiday Rambler on a F-53 Chassis?
I have a solution for you. As far as Sumo Springs for your 1997 Holiday Rambler on a F-53 Chassis, we only carry suspension options that are rated to fit your vehicle with a GVWR of 22,000 pounds. There are different parts for the front and rear if you are looking at helper springs. I reached out to my representative at Super Springs, and he confirmed that the rear does take the SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle # SSR-181-54-1, not the Sumo Springs # SSR-187-54-1. • Correct SumoSprings and Steering Stabilizer for 2002 Winnebago Adventurer
The SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-181-54-1 for the rear and the SumoSprings Rebel Custom Helper Springs part # SSF-172-40-2 for the front are an excellent option for a 2002 Winnebago Adventurer. They have many benefits and softening the ride is one of them. They are essentially a rubber spring placed between the axle and frame so all road shock has to go through the springs first. In regards to a steering stabilizer, the correct one is the Roadmaster Reflex Steering...

Hey Bryan, The SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs # SSR-181-54-1 for your 2000 Fleetwood Bounder on an F-53 chassis will help some, but won't bring you back up to factory clearances. If your suspension has worn over time, a helper spring isn't going to replace your factory suspension, it would just be of some assistance. The only way to really get back to factory clearances is with factory replacement parts.
