Video Transcript for Ultimate Overview of the 2" Hitch Ball

Jeff: Hello everybody. This is Jeff from etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Curt two inch chrome hitch ball. With a 10,000 pound weight, gross towing weight capacity. Now this hitch ball provides the connection point for your trailer's coupler. This one you can see is a nice durable corrosion resistant chrome finish.

A few dimensions on this. The diameter and the ball is two inches. The weight capacity, which will be stamped on the top is 10,000 pounds. Now I do want to give you a few critical dimensions. So when you go to purchase a hitch ball, you do want to make sure it'll fit your ball mount.

So the one of them is the length of the shank, which is this portion here. So we're gonna measure from the bottom to the end of the shank. So the length on this one is going to be right at two and five eights inches long. The other critical measurement is the diameter to make sure it'll fit into the ball hole of your ball mount. So on this one is gonna be right at one and a quarter inches. So again, this is designed to fit a ball mount with a one and a quarter inch ball hole and the thickness of the ball mount needs to be either a half inch up to one inch thick and this will fit on there correctly.

Now, if you notice it does include the lock washer and the nut. So when you do go to install this, you'll drop this through the hole in your ball mount. Put your lock washer on, take your nut, go ahead and start it. And then tighten it down to the torque specs that are recommended. Now, the height on this ball mount once it's installed from the bottom here to the very top, it's gonna be right at two and three quarter inches from the bottom of the flange to the top of the ball.

And when you do install this, it will require a socket size of one and seven eighths inches to fit this nut. But that should do it for the review on the Curt two inch chrome hitch ball with the 10,000 pound gross towing weight capacity.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for Camping Trailer
The most important thing to know when selecting a weight distribution system is your total tongue weight, which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2016 Ram 1500. Your total tongue weight needs to be in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity in order for the system to work effectively. The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37060ET has a tongue weight capacity between 200 lbs...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch for 2022 Keystone Springdale Mini 1750RD
Hey Michelle! There are definitely a lot of different weight distribution hitch (WDH) options out there. The most important thing is to make sure it is properly rated for the tongue weight of your setup. Looking at the specs for the 2022 Keystone Springdale Mini 1750RD it has a dry (unloaded) tongue weight of 520 lbs and a GVWR of 4,400 lbs. Tongue weight is typically 10-15% of the loaded trailer weight so at the high end, fully loaded, you're going to be around 660 lbs. For occasional,...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for 2018 Keystone Summerland 1750RD
The most important thing to consider when picking out a weight distribution system is the total tongue weight of your setup. This number includes the loaded tongue weight of the trailer (as if it's ready for a trip) along with any added cargo weight you might have loaded behind the rear axle of your F-250. Ideally this number falls comfortably within the operating range of the system you choose. Based on my research your 2018 Keystone Summerland 1750RD Trailer does indeed have an empty...

  • Recommended Brake Controller and Weight Distribution for 2019 Honda Pilot Towing 2026 Geo Pro 17LE
Hey Cody! The brake controller I recommend for your setup is the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED74CR. The Liberty is simple, reliable, and has a really clean look once installed. The main unit is hidden so the only thing you see is the control knob in the dash. The knob acts as the override and controls the brake power. This comes with a custom wiring harness to plug into your 2019 Pilot factory wiring. The right weight distribution hitch is based on the tongue weight of...

  • Does the Reese 6K Pro Round Bar Weight Distribution System Come with 2" Hitch Ball
The Reese Pro Round Bar Weight Distribution part # RE34FR only comes with a 2-5/16" hitch ball but you can purchase a 2" and swap it out yourself using the 2" Hitch Ball part # A-90. If you don't have the tools to swap it out just take it by any local auto shop and they should have no problem switching it out for you.

  • Weight Distribution Recommendation for 6,000 lb Camper Trailer
You'd be fine to have a weight distribution installed on your trailer as you travel on the hill you described. If anything it might help prevent the trailer from leaning excessively. For a 6,000 lb trailer you'd be looking at a tongue weight most likely of 600 to 900 lbs so the weight distribution with sway control that I would recommend is the Strait Line part # RP66084 which has a tongue weight range of 600-1,200 lbs and features only sway control designed to fight sway before it starts. For your R-pod travel trailer, the biggest issue you will face is sway , so I recommend he Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control - Round Bar - 10,000 lbs GTW, 600 lbs TW # RP66086 which is rated for total tongue weight between 200 and 600 lbs. Total tongue weight includes not only the loaded trailer tongue weight, but also any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2015 Ford Escape. The hot rolled spring bars along with the dual cams make this the only system that actively...

For your Cobalt boat and trailer, I recommend you go with the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Trunnion # FA92-00-0800. This system will give you a stronger system that will also allow you greater ground clearance. This system will handle much better for you as you travel down the road as well as when you are loading and unloading. The sharp angles won't be a problem with this system. This system is easy to engage and disengage as needed, so you will have options....

  • Weight Distribution System Recommendation for a Rockwood Mini Lite 23.7 Trailer
Your best option is going to be the Reese Strait Line part # RP66084 as it has a tongue weight range of 600-1,200 lbs which would be perfect for your tongue weight of 725 lbs. The sway control on this system is the only style on the market that actively works to prevent sway before it starts. The other very popular option is the Equalizer WD system part # EQ37101ET which would also work great with 725 lbs of tongue weight but instead uses 4 point of friction for sway control. • Is a Weight Distribution System Required for Towing a 3,000 lb Trailer
Any time you are towing a trailer that has a fully loaded weigh that is over 50 percent of the vehicle's gross weight, a weight distribution system is recommended. If your vehicle weighs less than 6,000 lbs, a weight distribution system and trailer brakes should be used when towing a 3,000 lb trailer. Assuming that the 3000 lb figure you mentioned represents the fully loaded and ready to tow weight of the trailer, the tongue weight will be between 300-450 lbs, plus the weight of any cargo...

  • Hitch, Wiring, Brake Controller, Camera, and Weight Distribution for 2015 BMW X5
First thing you need to tow a trailer with your 2015 BWM X5 is a trailer hitch like the Curt # 13077 which is mostly hidden and had more than enough capacity for your trailer. Next for trailer wiring you'd want the part # 119250KIT to provide the 4-way lighting functions. To convert to a 7-way and install a brake controller you'd then want the part # ETBC7 with a brake controller like our Brake EVN # TK63VR which is proportional, reliable, and also priced well. • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For 2021 Ford Explorer ST Towing 2020 Keystone Passport 239ML
Since your 2021 Ford Explorer ST has a 560lb tongue weight rating I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Trunnion - 8,000 lbs GTW, 800 lbs TW # FA92-00-0800 which works with tongue weights between 400-800lbs. The Fastway systems are very high quality for the cost, and the built in two point sway control does a great job of keeping your trailer going straight down the highway. Now the # BM20 has a 10,000lb trailer weight rating, and 1,000lb tongue weight rating. • Should Weight Distribution Hitch Be Used With 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Towing Forest River Vibe 28RB
According to the 2019 Ram 1500 towing chart, a weight distribution hitch is recommended for trailers over 5,000 lbs. Based on that information, I would say you should use a WDH and not just a regular ball mount. I'm not entirely sure which trailer you have without the year, and I was unable to find the 28RK so I will use the 28RL. The 28RL has a an unloaded weight of 7,096 lbs with a dry tongue weight of 821 lbs. The GVWR is 9,621 lbs so you're looking at roughly 1,100 lbs of tongue weight....

Hey Chip! If you're dealing with that much sway, I would recommend a weight distribution system not one of the SumoSpring systems. I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control item # FA92-00-0450. This system is built for smaller trailers like yours and works with tongue weights up to 450 lbs. If your loaded tongue weight is 1,050 lbs then the Reese Weight Distribution system part # RP66542 would work well as it has a tongue weight range of 600-1,200 lbs which would work well for you. The only setup that would be better would be the Strait Line part # RP66084 as it has the same tongue weight range but has a sway control system that stops sway before it starts. • Recommended Weight Distribution System for Towing an R-Pod 190 with a 2019 GMC Canyon
I highly recommend using the Reese Strait-Line # RP66083 for your R-Pod 190 because this is one of the few systems that fights sway before it starts instead of correcting it after it already starts. This gives you a much better ride quality and since this uses chains it will be a little quieter than a system that mounts solely with brackets. You just need a hitch ball like the 2" # A-90 or the 2-5/16" # 19286 to complete your towing setup. The lift brackets need to be mounted about 30"...

Hello Casey, Getting things ready for a U-Haul, big move coming up? I just looked up how U-Haul says to measure, and it is a little different than how we do it. On the vehicle end we measure from the ground to the inside top of the receiver, then on the trailer end to the bottom of the coupler. Since you have a 2" receiver and measured to the middle, that puts you at 14", and on the U-Haul side they measure to the middle and it is a 2" ball, so that would be 17".
