Video Transcript for Curt Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - A-90 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number A-90. This is the Curt hitch ball with a 2" diameter, medium shank and it's rated at 10,000 pounds and that comes with a gross towing weight. This hitch ball is going to give us a shank diameter which is this portion here of right at 1 1/4". So, when choosing a ball mount, you want make sure that the ball mount does have at least 1 1/4" opening to receive the 1 1/4" diameter shank that our ball mount has on it. The shank length, measuring from the bottom of the flange, the bottom of the shank bar is going to measure about 2 5/8". If we take the measurement from the bottom of the flange to the top of our hitch ball, it's going to give us a measurement of 2 3/4". Now again, this ball does have a capacity of 10,000 pounds.

It comes with a nut and a lock washer. Another thing that I want to mention real quick is that when choosing a ball mount you want to make sure that the ball mount has a 1/2" to 1" thick draw bar. As you can see on our ball mount today, it measures right around 1". So, it's definitely between that 1/2" to 1" mark. So this would be an appropriate ball mount to use. It also has 1 1/4" size diameter hole for our hitch ball. So the way this would install is we would take our ball, place it through the hole, place on our lock washer and secure it by tightening down our nut.

Our nut size is 1 7/8". So you need to make sure you have that size of wrench or socket to tighten this down and torque it down to the specifications listed by the manufacturer. That's how you install it and that's going to complete our review of part number A-90. That's the Curt hitch ball with a 2" diameter, medium shank rated at 10,000 pounds. .

After balking at the cost to have an auto-shop add a trailer to our Toyota Highlander, we found etrailer.com and decided to take a chance. The "how to" videos factored considerably in our decision to buy ... they made it look so easy! And surprise! It really -WAS- that easy. We used standard block-type ramps (the kind you can buy for $40 ) to get the SUV up off the ground high enough to get underneath to do the work. Everything came off as easy as it was showed in the videos. Other than the fact this bar is a heavy so we had our teen daughter help hold it steady while we bolted it into place (i.e., get help for when you go to lift it), it went super smooth. Thanks for saving us $280 over the cost the car dealer quoted us! P.S. - be sure to watch the linked videos so you get the right trailer lighting attachment and ball hitch for your new hitch. 510345

We are very happy with our trailer hitch, and all the accoutrements that we purchased with it. Your videos were enormously helpful, the hitch went on easily with a bit of help from our teenage daughter to lift it up into place, and we recommend your business to friends when they express an interest in getting a camper.

Very good product and easy to install. My configuration allowed the lift brackets that came with the order to be used, so I didn't have to order the bracket kit. The installation videos on the e-trailer were excellent. Delivery was also prompt, only four days for me. My trailer only required a 2" ball rather than the 2 5/16" ball supplied. I had trouble finding a 2" ball locally with a 1 1/4" diameter shank. I ordered this from e-trailer and again delivery was prompt. I did have to buy some larger wrenches to work with the 2" nuts on the balls so keep that in mind if your a due-it-yourselfer. The manual was pretty good, but I got more out of the videos. I little more description on the initial setting of the friction sway control would have been helpful (i.e. is the factory setting midway? lowest? highest)? 267227

My order was received on time and with everything that was ordered. The hitch has been put on my trailer and working great. Thanks to Suzanne and her knowledge of the product was excellent.Thank You. The 2" ball was just what I needed thought it may have not been available for the bigger hitch but thanks to Suzanne it was just what I needed. Thanks again and I'm sure if I ever need more from E Trailer I will be in touch. 162651

Economy shipping was lightning fast! Product is just what I wanted; it is pulling my 7,500lb horse trailer with no problem. The other reviews that worry about the chrome scratching...I think most of us know that's a given when one places a few tons of metal on top. Great product so far! 159864

Simplicity is the key here. Very easy to order, customer service (Lisa D) asked a few questions about vehicle and what I needed to Tow, and like magic, she found this at a very good price which saved me $$$. It was very easy to install, heavy duty construction!! It shipped faster than other online sites could have done, a day and half later, UPS showed up with it. Back to installation, I watched the video and it worked as advertised. I never used one before, but it just works. Very satisfied. 552984

FYI - you will need a 1 7/8" wrench. Heavy Duty 2" without using bushings on large hitches. Perfect condition when arrived 020514 450 ft. lbs torque on the nut. Woo-Wee. Eat your breakfast! 115787

High quality. the nut is bigger than the balls with the 1" shank. I have a wrench for the nut on 1" shank but not this one, I was able to get it tight enough with a monkey wrench and a bench vice. you could probably get a wrench form harbor freight for cheep or take it somewhere and have them install it. 27248

The ball is perfect fit for 1-1/4 receiver hole. A couple of taps to the top of the ball to get it fully seated and yiur ready to torque the nut down. If your looking for a heavy duty ball, this is rated at 10k lbs and should do the job. I was impressed with not only fulfillment but also the speed of shipment and the price was unbeatable! Customer service was also top notch taking time to contact me throughout the order and shipping process. No doubt this will serve my purpose of hauling around my trailer used for cars, tractors, motorcycles and other miscellaneous project items. I've included a couple pictures so you can get an idea of how heavy duty this ball is built. Great buying experience all the way around. 472755

Purchased this item due to its 5 ton rating. It was easy to install (with the proper sized wrenches). Even though my max towing limit is 9800 lbs and my actual towing weight approximately 3 tons. The stresses caused by towing and braking could test the limits of your equipment. I would rather have the piece of mind of extra strength, than to meet the minimum limit. It does have some slight galling / brinelling of the ball surface after a year. This item is difficult to find locally, as most available are 4 ton load limit. Etrailer.com had these in stock and shipped quickly. Thank you. 619135

  • Recommended Pole Tongue Adapter and Weight Distribution for V-Nose Trailer
  • For your pole tongue trailer, I recommend the Reese Pole-Tongue Adapter for Weight Distribution Systems # RP58393 as long as the trailer manufacturer allows weight distribution systems on the aluminum frame. I've attached the dimensions to assist so you can ensure a fit for your trailer jack. Then based on your GVWR, I recommend the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion # RP66560 which will work with total loaded tongue weights between 600 and 1200 lbs....

As long as the GTW and TW of your trailer does not exceed 5,000 lbs and 500 lbs respectively, the Titan Hitch Box Extension part # RP45018 will work well for you as long as you trim the bar down to 41". If the GTW and TW of your trailer exceeds the above 5,000lb/500lb rating...

All you need to add is a hitch ball, either 2-inch # A-90 or 2-5/16-inch # 19286. If your trailer nose blocks access to the side of the trailer frame where the spring bar brackets need...

  • Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 500 lbs Tongue Weight

That being said the best option is the part # RP66083 as it has a tongue weight range that would work perfectly as well but features sway control that works to fight sway before it starts. For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.

This is because the bars attach to the weight distribution head from underneath. If your tow vehicle is a full sized pick-up or SUV, a round bar system would work just fine. If you're towing with a small crossover or a minivan (anything with little ground clearance) you'd definitely want to go with a trunnion bar system. Typically the...

  • If you are debating on which trailer hitch receiver and what brake controller to use on your 2004 Toyota 4Runner, I can make some recommendations for you. For a Trailer Hitch Receiver, I recommend using the Draw-Tite Max-Frame # 75155 since it has a higher weight capacity than that of the Curt # 13445, which is your only other option for your 4Runner. Even though the Draw-Tite has a max Tongue Weight of 600 lbs (730 lbs when using a Weight Distribution system) and a max Gross Trailer...

  • Best Weight Distribution System for 2012 Ram 1500 5.7L Hemi W/4 Lift and 7,500 lb Travel Trailer
  • You will be okay with a 7,500 lb travel trailer with an appropriate weight distribution system based on the numbers you gave. Because you don't know what trailer you will be getting yet, the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # RP66561 is a great option because the total tongue weight range of this system is 700 to 1400 lbs which is a broader range than most. The total tongue weight is the loaded trailer tongue weight along with any cargo behind the rear axle...

  • Recommended Light Weight and Easy to Use Weight Distribution System
  • To determine the correct weight distribution system for your trailer you'll need to find its loaded and ready to tow tongue weight. Add that to the amount of weight you'll add behind the rear axle of your F-150 and you'll have the total tongue weight of your setup. You want that number to fall within the range of the system you choose. From my research the Dutchmen Aspen Trail's maximum weight is a little under 10,000 pounds which means the tongue weight is likely between 1,000 to...

  • Weight Distribution Hitch Recommendation for 7,000 lb Trailer
  • The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use. If your trailer will be around...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for Trailer with 7,000 Pound GVWR
  • When choosing a weight distribution system, the most important factor to consider is the total tongue weight of your towing setup. This number will include both the loaded tongue weight of the trailer (as if loaded and ready for a trip), along with any added cargo weight coming from behind the rear axle of your F-150. Ideally, this number will fall somewhere near the middle of the operating range for the system you choose. The most accurate method for determining your trailer's loaded...

  • Recommended WD System and Transmission Cooler for Towing with a 2017 Toyota Highlander XLE
  • I am glad that you have decided to use a Weight Distribution (WD) system. We always recommend going with one when your trailer weighs at least half of the weight of the tow vehicle, in your case a 2017 Toyota Highlander XLE. When looking at a WD system you will want to choose one with a Tongue Weight (TW) range that the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your towing setup falls in the middle of. To find the TTW of your towing setup you will need to add the TW of your fully loaded and ready-to-go...
