Replacement Wheel Strap for Thule T2 Bike Racks

Today we're going to be taking a look at the replacement wheel strap for the Thule T2 hitch-mounted bike racks. This part number comes with one strap. It's going to fit the Thule T2 bike racks, part number TH916 and 917. This end right here, this is the end of the strap that goes into the wheel tray housing. The other end feeds through the ratcheting side of the tray. Let's take a look at some of the dimensions real quick, starting with the overall length. Measuring edge to edge, it's going to give us a measurement of about 11-1/2".
Just the rigid area, so from this point here to the end of the strap, is about 8-1/2". Side to side it's going to give us a width of 13/16". Right here it's got the indention. It's just a nice, easy-to-grip area. That way when you're placing it over the wheel, place it through the ratcheting mechanism. You can grab that, pull it tight, and then finish the tightening process with the ratcheting portion of the wheel tray.
That's going to do it for today's look at the replacement wheel strap for the Thule T2 hitch-mounted bike racks.

Just what I needed for a spare set for my bike rack. Just like the OEM ones.
First of all, etrailer is great! I'm very impressed with the wealth of knowledge that they provide on hitches and accessories. But this is the first time that I've purchased from them -- and I was equally impressed with the service. Right from moment I placed my order, they kept me informed on every step, and the delivery arrived on time and in good shape!
So anyhow, I have a Thule T2 classic bike rack that I purchased in 2006. Awesome product, but in was manufactured at a time when 26" was the norm, but the biking community was transitioning to 29". So when we purchased our new 29" Santa Cruz High Tower's in 2020, I discovered that the hook on the ratchet arm would not extend far enough to go around the bigger wheel. So I had to remove the stop screw, so that the ratchet arm could slide partially off the arm to get around the tire. It worked ok, but really, $9,000 bikes put on a bike rack with a too-short arm? So finally, I purchased 2 new Thule replacement arms from etrailer. I think it was not too long after I purchased my Thule T2, that they started manufacturing a longer arm, so I simply ordered a replacement arm. So now I have a Thule T2 bike rack that looks like new again, with the new ratchet arms, and the niners fit without having to remove the stop screw. Awesome! I have attached photo's showing the difference between the old original arms and the new longer arms.

The only issue was that I have a tendency to misplace the straps so the good news is that I still have them and they work great!

This is just what I was looking for to replace a lost strap on the back wheel of my T2 Thule bike rack. None of the bike shops carried it and I thought that I'd have to get an entire rear wheel set up for the rack. Great to know that there are parts available for this bike rack. Thanks!

GREAT! IT REALLY CUTS DOWN ON THE EFFORT TO PACK WHEN WE TRAAVL LONG DISTANCE. WE CAN JUST SHOVE STUFF IN OUR PLASTIC BOXES AND SLIDE THEM IN THE BACK. NO WORRIES ABOUT LIDS BLOWING OFFOR A LOT OFTIE DOWNS. ALSO, WE DON’T WORRY ABOUT STUFF BEING TAKEN FROM THE BED WHEN WE ARE STAYING IN MOTELS WHEN WE TRAVEL

I’m trying to replace the cradle straps on the Thule T2 bike carrier I purchased in 2015, it’s the only parts that have worn out over time! I looked everywhere for Thule parts and found only etrailer was able to provide the parts I needed thanks to Dan who helped me find the correct straps!

No matter how hard I try to keep these straps together and in the same place inside my truck (I have a 2-bike Thule carrier that I leave attached to the truck) they seem to migrate to parts unknown. That's why I ordered a spare. So far these straps have held up. It's not the quality of the strap but the fact that I don't want to lose one on a bike trip.
P.S. I have found very few retailers who carry these accessories and am thankful that etrailer.com does. I've purchased bike rack parts, and kayak rack parts. My go-to place.

Excellent replacement part for my bike rack. I have ordered parts before and eTrailer.com always has what I need. Parts are OEM, holding up well.
This replacement strap fits the original Sportsworks hitch-mounted bike rack that morphed into the Thule T2. The rack itself is expensive but well worth the money; a lockable, strong rack that doesn't wobble. The straps don't like the Florida sun so plan on replacing every three or four years. The strap holds down the rear wheel but the real security is on the front wheel. I've had the rack for more than ten years and never had a problem at freeway speeds or on rough roads.

Still works well, doesnt show sun or heat damage
We have a Thule bike rack that is a few years old and wanted to get some spare straps that lock the wheels in. etrailer.com made it very easy to find our model and a list of parts for it. They were very easy to order from and our shipment was received quickly. First time ordering but won't be the last!!
