Reese 5th Wheel Pin Box

  • 16000 lbs GTW
  • Upgraded Pin Box
  • Absorbs Road Shock and Reduces Chucking
  • Provides Turning Clearance
  • Reese
  • Air Ride Suspension
  • No Turret

Connect the turret portion (sold separately) of the sidewinder to this arm assembly to create a complete 5th Airborne sidewinder, which will enable you to easily make up to 90-degree turns. The built-in air bag both cushions and supports your load.

Features:

  • 5th-Wheel trailer's pivot point is moved an extra 22" toward the rear of your tow vehicle so that you can easily make 90-degree turns, even with a short-bed pickup truck
    • Rotating turret (ST100, ST200, ST300, ST400 or ST500 - sold separately) required
    • No need to get out of your truck, throw a switch, push a button or mount a 5th-wheel slider
    • Trailer tracks more closely to the truck for better driveability
  • Fully enclosed, custom-tuned air spring in air ride trailer coupler - cushions and absorbs shock
    • Reduces longitudinal shock (chucking) by nearly 60 percent
    • Decreases vertical shock by 44 percent
    • Relieves stress on coach frame
    • Reduces vibration inside coach, protecting its contents
  • Air bag can be repositioned with 2 easy-to-access screws to better support varying loads
    • Move forward for light tongue weights
    • Move backward for heavy tongue weights
  • King pin connects to standard 5th-wheel trailer hitch and allows easy hookup and disconnect at any angle
  • 1-Piece, streamlined construction
  • C-Channel design of sidewinder provides more stability and strength than standard pin box
    • Able to support heavier loads

Specs:

  • Capacity: 16,000 lbs
  • Clearance: see formula below to ensure proper clearance
  • 3-Year limited warranty

Clearance Formula

Use the formula below to ensure that there will be enough space between your truck cab and trailer when you are executing a 90-degree turn with the 5th Airborne sidewinder installed.

(A + B) - C = Clearance

A = Distance from center of 5th-wheel hitch jaw to truck cab in inches

B = Length of sidewinder arm in inches (22")

C = Width of trailer in inches divided by 2

For example:

If you are using the 16,000-lb 5th Airborne sidewinder, then B = 22"

If the distance from the center of your hitch to your truck's cab is 36", then A = 36"

And, if your fifth-wheel trailer is 102" wide, then C = 51"

102/2 = 51

Therefore,

(36 + 22) - 51 = 7" of clearance

  • Comparing Discontinued Sidewinder Repair Kits # RP86005 and # RP94316
Repair kit # RP94316 is designed for 5th Airborne Sidewinders whereas # RP86005 is for 16k and 19k Sidewinders only, not the air ride models. The kits are very similar though because a lot of the parts are the same or similar. But I advise using the kit for the type of Sidewinder you have to ensure compatibility.

  • Reese 5th Airborne Premium Pin Box Service Kit Availability
Hey David! What you're looking for is the 86005 Service Kit which was discontinued a few years ago. You might be able to find one elsewhere online but since these have been gone for a while it will be pretty difficult. I recommend reaching out to Reese directly to get their help with this since they were the ones to discontinue it - https://www.reeseprod.com/ContactUs

  • Will the Reese Sidewinder With No Turret # 5AS16K With My 2022 Ford F-350 Super Duty Short Bed?
Hello Robert. Everyone's camping style is a little different. So just as long as you are not overloading the trailer and it is below 16K then this will be great. If you are unsure of your loaded weight I suggest taking it to a trucking weigh station where they can weight it for a small fee. As far as clearance on your F-350, you will need to do some measuring the ensure you have the clearance as I do not have a database to reference. Here is how to measure to make sure you have the clearance...

  • Do You Have the Turret for the Reese 5th Airborne Rotating Pin Box?
Hey Chad! I am sorry but we do not have any of the Reese Sidewinder's that come with the 5th Airborne Premium 5th Wheel Air Ride King Pin with Sidewinder item # 5AS16K. These have been out of stock for quite some time now. You may be able to find one online but our only option is to purchase the Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret item # RP34FR and install the item # 5AS16K separately.

  • Does etrailer Carry the Turret for the 5th Airborne Rotating Pin Box
Hey Ken thanks for stopping by! I checked our system and it looks like all of the turrets we used to carry for the 5th Airborne Premium 5th Wheel Air Ride King Pin with Sidewinder # 5AS16K have been marked NLA so we don't have them anymore, unfortunately. Instead, you could use the Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret # RP34FR which is essentially the same thing but includes the turret and has a larger 20k capacity. What kind of trailer do you have? If there is anything...

  • Will 5th Airborne Cushioned Sidewinder King Pin Fit In Place of 20k Sidewinder
Hey Bill, yes the 5th Airborne Cushioned Sidewinder part # 5AS16K will fit the same turret as a 20k Sidewinder and this would provide you with additional cushioning. You are basically just wanting to improve your ride quality right?

  • Sidewinder Pin Box for 2022 Wildwood Heritage Glen 5th Wheel
The ST200 turret for the # 5AS16K has been discontinued. You may be able to find it still but I wasn't able to when I ran a quick search. At this time, the only Sidewinder we offer that fits the 1621 is the # RP34FR. Also, you aren't hearing from Reese because they're owned by First Brands now. Ever since this change the wait times on the phone are extremely long and many of their parts are gone or on indefinite backorder. The # RP34FR will help with clearance but it won't do anything...

  • Availability Of Sidewinder Replacement For Lippert 1621 Pin Box
Hello Kurt, thanks for reaching out. Our records show the ST200 turret is what you would need for the Lippert 1621 pin box. This has been discontinued though. We sold our last one back in 2011, so at this point it may be difficult/impossible to find one. At this time, the only Sidewinder we offer that fits the 1621 is the Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret # RP34FR.

  • Availability Of Replacement Air Bag For Reese Airborne Sidewinder
hello Dwight, thanks for reaching out. Have you done a soap test to check the source of the leak? The reason I ask is a lot of times when these Reese Airborne sidewinders start leaking it is actually the Schrader valve and not the air bag itself. If the valve is leaking, they can easily be replaced. If the air bag itself is leaking I am sorry to say we do not offer an air bag replacement for this. You may want to try reaching out to Reese to see if they have a replacement they can provide.

We don't have the lockout bolts for your 5th Airborne Premium 5th Wheel Air Ride King Pin with Sidewinder # 5AS16K, however you just need (2) 3/4" x 5 1/2" grade 5 bolts which you can just get at any local hardware store.

  • Solution to Fix Jerking/Chucking of Fifth Wheel Trailer with Reese Revolution Pin Box
Reese Revolution/Sidewinder pin boxes generally aren't too prone to chucking and noise but when this does happen what typically is the problem is the fifth wheel hitch not having a tight enough jaw to hold the trailer tight and prevent the movement associated with the chucking. I don't know what hitch you have now but the B and W Patriot part # BWRVK3200 holds the king pin very tightly and would eliminate the jerking you described. Then for a custom wedge to fit it tightly to your Revolution...

  • How To Clean And Lubricate The Wear Plate On A Reese Sidewinder King Pin Part # 5AS16K
Per the instructions for the Reese 5th Airborne Sidewinder Standard Arm with King Pin part # 5AS16K, in order to clean and lubricate the wear plate, you must first remove the turret. This can be done by removing the 4 5/8" cap bolts from the top of the pivot arm followed by the 2 3/4" convertible bolts located on the bottom side of the king pin. Once done, you will have to use a pry bar to remove the sleeve around the pivot arm, be careful not to scrape or nick the pivot arm upon disassembly....

If you take a look at the photo I have added, you can see that ridge which does not allow the wedge to sit completely flat, which is normal.

I spoke with my contact at Reese and unfortunately you cannot upgrade from a Reese Revolution to a 5th Airborne Premium 5th Wheel Air Ride King Pin with Sidewinder # 5AS16K. When a fifth wheel trailer like your 2013 Forest River Flagstaff comes with the OEM Reese Revolution pinbox there are no other pin boxes that will fit. Once you have a Revolution pin box the only way to change it out is to do a major fabrication of your fifth wheel.
