Video Transcript for Comprehensive Review: Replacement Trailer Hub Bearing

Today we're going to take a look at the trailer bearing for 10,000 pound axles. Now this replacement bearing is a high quality tapered roller bearing designed for high speed use. Most bearings use an industry standard number. This one, which the number is usually stamped on the inner ring, this one would be 395s and it's designed again to fit 10,000 pound axles. Now on a bearing the critical measurement is the inner diameter of the bearing, and the measurement is usually in thousands of an inch. To actually measure it it does require a digital caliper. I happen to have one here, and just to show you if we do an internal measurement on it we can see that it is right at 2.625 inches for the inner diameter.

Now this bearing does use a bearing race number of 394a, and this bearing is normally used as an inner bearing on the 8-214-5 hub. That should do it for the review on the trailer bearing for 10,000 pound axles.

  • Bearings, Races and Oil Seals For Dexter 10K Axle On a 2018 Big Tex 22GN Trailer
When you replace your Brakes # 23-450-451 it is a good idea to inspect the bearings at that time. The bearings and races will only need to be replaced if they are damaged or grooved. A visual inspection of the seal will tell you if it leaking or you notice any damage to the seal. Depending on if your Dexter 10K axle is a general duty or heavy duty will decide the bearings and oil seal you will need. If you are unsure you can send me the axle serial number that is stamped in the rear portion...

  • Technical Drawing for Dexter Hub Assembly # 8-214-5
I spoke with my contact at Dexter and was able to obtain the technical drawing for the Trailer Hub Assembly, # 8-214-5. Keep in mind that this hub was designed to fit a spindle from a 10K Dexter axle. I have attached this drawing for you. We do offer part # 8-214-5UC1 which includes the trailer hub assembly, lug nuts, inner bearing ( # 395S ) and race, outer bearing ( # 387A ) and race, oil seal and cap. These are designed to fit 10,000-lb axles with spindles that require a 3-1/4" ID grease...

  • Bearings, Seal, & Electric Brakes For Big Tex 22GN 35+5 Gooseneck Trailer
I was able to find the correct electric brakes, as well as oil seal (which is what I assume you were referring to by wheel seal), and also the bearings for your Big Tex 22GN 35+5 gooseneck trailer. I'll go ahead and list out the parts for you below. - Oil Seal # 10-56 - Replacement Trailer Hub Bearing # 395S & Race # 394A - Replacement Trailer Hub Bearing # 387A & Race # 382A - Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Assembly - Left Hand # 23-438 & Right Hand # 23-439

  • Availability of Spindle and Hubs for 10,000 lb Trailer Axle
As you may have noticed, the highest capacity spindle we carry is for a 7,000 lb axle, # TRU37FR. Your best bet is to source the spindles for a 10,000 lb axle through a local trailer shop or dealer. If are able to source the spindles, we do have hubs for 10,000 lb axles. I'll list them below: # 8-430-5UC3 - Dexter Hub Drum for 9K to 10K axles manufactured after July 2009 (for non ABS brakes) - uses inner bearing # 387A, outer bearing # 25580 and oil seal # 10-51 # K08-288-90 - Dexter...

  • Switching My Electric Drum Brakes to Hydraulic Drum Brakes on Dexter 10k Axles
We carry disc brake kits for the Dexter 10K Standard Duty axle. Unfortunately, there is no disc brake kit available through our venders that fits the Dexter 10K Heavy Duty Axle. You could upgrade to a hydraulic drum brake system from your electric drum brakes. You will need Dexter Left Hand Hydraulic Brake Assembly # 23-404 and the Right Hand Brake Assembly # 23-405. If your drums need to be replaced, you will need Brake Drum Assembly # 9-27-1. You can remove your hubs off your current...

  • What Spindle Does Dexter 10K Hub Assembly # 8-214-5 Fit
The Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 8-214-5 that you referenced does fit a particular spindle but it's not something we have available (the highest capacity spindles we have are 6K units) and there's not really a standard model name for it like the # 42 spindle you mentioned that's typically found on 5,200 pound axles. The Dexter Hub Assembly # 8-215-5 uses a # 395S inner bearing, a # 387A outer bearing, and the # 10-56 oil seal that has a 3.125" inner diameter and a 4.500" outer...

  • Replacement Disc Brake Hubs for Hayes 10,000 lbs Axles
We do not have any individual replacement disc brake hubs for 10,000 lbs Hayes axles. The Kodiak Disc Brake Kit item # K2HR10-13-HD would be the only option we have and it would replace both sides of your axle. It fits a #99 spindle with an Inner bearing item # 28580 and Outer bearing item # 25580. The Trailer Idler Hub Assembly item # 8-214-5 you were looking at fits Dexter 10,000 lbs axles with larger Inner bearing item # 395S and Outer bearing item # 387A.

  • Replacement Bearings and Seals for Dexter Axle 10K Axle with Oil Bath
I can give you a few different options but to know the exact bearings, races, and seals you need for an oil bath on your 10K Dexter Axle you will need to take some measurements on your spindle using a digital caliper or by finding the part numbers on these pieces. Attached is a photo to show you where the part numbers are located as well as where you will need to measure on your spindle. One set of common bearings/seals are inner bearing # 387A (2.250" inner diameter) with race # 382A,...

  • Disc Brake Availability for 10,000 lb Dexter Torsion Axles
The Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R1058D13 looks like it is exactly what you are needing. It is compatible with 10,000 lbs Dexter torsion axles, 17-1/2 inch wheels, and a hydraulic system. It does require a psi rating of 1,500 so as long as your EOH actuator can give that much output this is a viable option. To finish confirming that this kit will work great for your application you will just need to make sure that you have a 7 bolt brake mounting flange location and that your current wheels...
