  • Is There Another Lock Option for Thule Hitch Mounted Bike Racks Besides THSTL2
  • If you have a Thule accessory, like a bike rack, then the lock and anti-rattle device from Thule, # THSTL2, is the only one that will work. (See THSTL2 product page for the racks the lock fits.) It fits 1-1/4 and 2 inch Thule hitch mounted racks. The reason it only fits these Thule models is the way that the lock and racks are threaded. They are uniquely threaded to match each other. I have included a video and instructions for this lock below.

  • Too Much Sway while Towing a Bike Rack and Using a Hitch Adapter
  • I am glad to hear the hitch installation went smoothly, but sorry to hear you are unhappy with the adapter. When using adapters, the play you are experiencing is a common problem. When using accessories in a trailer hitch, sometimes they are a perfect fit, sometimes they are a little loose and other times they are so tight that you must file the accessory down a bit. Because, there is not always a perfect fit, there are anti-rattle devices made. You may have noticed that your Yakima...

  • Differences Between the Softride Dura Parallelogram and Element Parallelogram Bike Racks
  • The Softride Dura Parallelogram, part # SR26247, has a few features that the Softride Element Parallelogram, part # SR26248, does not. The Dura has an integrated steel cable that you can use to lock your backs to the rack, to deter potential thieves from snatching the bikes off the rack, as well as anti-sway cradles that will prevent the bikes from contacting each other or the tow vehicle. The Dura has a bigger load capacity, it can hold four 40 pound bikes. The Element is limited...

  • Which Trailer Hitch Pin Locks Will Work with Thule Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Racks
  • The Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device, # THSTL2, is the only hitch pin lock that can be used with Thule bike racks. The racks and lock are both uniquely threaded to be compatible with each other so another lock, like the Softride Lock, # SR25219, that you have referenced will not work. I have included a link to a video review of this lock for reference. I recommend adding a cable lock, like # CAB-10, and using it through the bikes, around the rack, and attach it to the...

  • Availability of Hitch Pin For 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
  • The two sizes of hitch pins that I carry are 1/2 inch and 5/8 inch. A 2 inch hitch receiver will use the 5/8 inch hitch pin like the Hidden Hitch Pin and Clip, part # PC3. I am including a link to a page of the 5/8 inch hitch pins that I carry. The Class I 1-1/4 inch hitch receivers will use the 1/2 inch hitch pin like the Draw-Tite Pin and Clip, part # PC2. The Softride Replacement Hitch Bolt with Lock Washer, part # SR25879, that you have referenced will only fit the QuietRide stainless...

  • Differences Between Softride Dura # SR26247 and Thule Vertex # TH9029XT
  • Since both the Softride Dura # SR26247 and Thule Vertex # TH9029XT use a threaded hitch bolt that draws the shank tightly against the side of the receiver, both bike racks will be very stable in the receiver and should not move around on you. The Dura includes a lock that attaches to the hitch bolt, while with the Vertex the lock # THSTL2 is sold separately. When overstretched, the straps on the Dura are more prone to breakage. I always tell folks to resist the temptation to tighten...

  • Recommended Bike Rack to Fit a 2007 Jeep Liberty with Rear Spare Tire
  • We have several options for your 2007 Jeep Liberty. The easiest and best route to go with is to purchase a rack that has a long enough extension to clear your rear mounted wheel and tire combination. To do this you will need to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on your receiver hitch to the farthest out part of your rear wheel or tire. Once you have this measurement you can select a bike rack with enough clearance to clear the spare tire. We have several models of bike racks...

  • Recommendation For Hitch and Bike Rack To Fit 2012 VW Eos That Will Not Interfere With Convertible
  • For the 2012 Volkswagen Eos you will use the Draw-Tite Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # 24824. This hitch is a Class I hitch so you will limited to only hauling 2 bikes maximum on a hitch bike rack. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Draw-Tite hitch and a link to a video of the hitch being installed on a Volkswagen Eos. For a 2 bike hitch rack that will work on your Volkswagen Eos, I would recommend the Swagman XTC-2 Platform Bike Rack, part # S64670. This...

  • Hitch-Mounted 4-Bike Carriers With Tilting Feature While Loaded For Explorer Recommendations
  • We do carry several bike carriers that can tilt while the bikes are loaded allowing you access to the rear of your Explorer. You can choose from either hanging bike carriers or platform-style carriers. Some of the carriers can be quite heavy, so you want to consider the weight of all of the bikes combined with the weight of the carrier and make sure you do not exceed the tongue weight capacity of your vehicle. If you choose a hanging bike carrier, and plan on carrying any bikes with...

  • Can Small Kids Bikes be Used on the Softride Dura Parallelogram Hitch Moutned Bike Rack
  • The outside width measurement for the arms on the Softride Dura is about 8-3/4 inches. They make the arms fairly narrow so that small children bikes can be hung properly. If you do not already have some, adapter bars may worth taking a look at to hold the bikes level. I have added a link to the bike rack adapter page as well as to a video on the Softride racks showing childrens bikes bing used.

  • Quality Hitch Bike Rack Recommendation for 4 New Mountain Bikes with Disc Brakes
  • The Softride Dura Parallelogram, item # SR26247, is a very nice rack. It has some unique features like the arms that remain level when the rack is tilted away from the vehicle and the removeable arms for ease of storage. This rack will fit in a Class II or larger hitch. Another 4 bike rack I would have you consider is the Yakima HoldUp, item # Y02443, along with the Plus 2 Adapter for HoldUp 2 Bike Carrier, 2 inch Hitches, item # Y02446. This rack is a wheel mount style for ease of...

  • Tailgate Pad Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2015 Ram 1500
  • Personally I like the Softride Shuttle Pad # SR26457 more than the Thule Gate Mate part # TH824 because it has the loops that allow a bike to easily be secured to the pad. Thule doesn't have the straps to secure the bikes to the pad, and most likely they wouldn't be necessary. But for added peace of mind I prefer the Softride. I attached review videos for both racks for you to check out.

  • Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin Recommendation for a Yakima Bike Rack with a 2 Inch Shank
  • You can use the Softride Locking, Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin, # SR25219, as long as the shank of your Yakima bike rack is hollow. The block will insert into the shank of the bike rack and the threaded pin will thread through and lock. If your Yakima bike rack has a threaded insert in the shank, then it should have come with a threaded pin. If this is the case, then let me know the model of your bike rack and I can see if we have a replacement pin for your bike rack. If the threaded insert...

  • Product Comparison Between Softride Dura # SR26247 and Element # SR26248 Bike Racks
  • The arms of the Softride Dura, # SR26247 do not fold, but they are easily and quickly removable. Both the Element and the Dura use a spring loaded pull pin that remains in place. It does not need to be completely removed and reinserted. A cable lock that would retro-fit to the Element is not available, but we have several cable type bike locks available, like the Master Lock Python, part # 8428DPS that would work well with the Element. There are two other important distinctions between...

  • In order to determine if you will have enough clearance to mount this Softride Dura Parallelogram Tilting 4 Bike Rack for 1-1/4 inch and 2 inch Hitches, part # SR26247, onto your Jeep Wrangler Rubicon you will need to measure the distance from the center of the hitch pin out to the furthest point of the spare tire. • Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2011 Volkswagen GTI
  • The Draw-Tite trailer hitch, # 24904 that you have, is a Class I trailer hitch. As a Class I hitch, you can only use accessories rated for use on a Class I hitch and for bike racks you are limited to carrying a maximum of 2 bikes. The Softride Element, # SR26248, will only work in Class II or III trailer hitches. For a compatible bike rack, I recommend the Swagman Titan, # S63400. This hitch pin will not only keep your basket secure, but it will keep the shank of the cargo basket tight against the receiver tube with the anti-rattle device. The overall length of these straps is 9-13/16 inches. It is hard to say for sure if it would work on your Graber Two Bike Rear Mounted Carrier, but it would seem likely that it would. • Is There a Tilting Feature of the Arms on the Softride Dura Bike Rack Like the Softride Element

The arms on part # SR26247, do come off with the push of a button for easy storage though. I called the manufacturer (SoftRide) and they said it does not go much further than the yellow hook where it would be locked. They said the length of the cable would be about 36 inches. So it would not give you any extra length to try and wrap it around the wheels and over the frame. I...

The first difference you already are aware of, the Alumina is lighter weight at 25 lbs. While the Dura weighs 39 lbs. • Comparing Yakima RidgeBack, thule Vertex, and Softride Dura bike Racks for a 2007 Honda Odyssey
  • First, what many people do not know about rubber straps on a bike rack is that they do not have to be as tight as possible, just snug. What usually ends up happening is the rubber straps get stretched so far, way further than necessary, and it fatigues the rubber leading to tears where the holes are in the straps. This is true for any bike rack that uses rubber straps. Regarding difficulty getting 4 bikes on a 4-bike carrier, this is true of any 4-bike hanging bike carrier. On most carriers...

  • 2015 Subaru Outback 4 Bike Recommendation for a OEM Hitch
  • Since you said your current 4 bike rack would require an adapter to be used on your 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon I am guessing that your bike rack is designed for a 2 inch hitch and the hitch on your vehicle is 1-1/4 inch. Subaru factory 1-1/4 inch hitches are pretty bizarre in their design because of the very short distance from the center pin hole to the outside edge of the hitch. Yakima is currently the only rack manufacturer that we recommend for the Subaru OEM hitches so for a...

Whereas the Softride Dura # SR26247 will only pivot down for limited access. Both racks have anti-rattle devices as well to prevent noise from the rack in the hitch.
