RV Skylight with Smoke Tint for Cooler Light
Smoke tint cuts glare and harsh sun, helping the living area stay cooler and more comfortable. Match your RV skylight by measuring both the overall size and the cutout so the replacement seats and seals correctly, whether it's over the shower or in the main cabin. For installation, choose a sealant compatible with the skylight material; many installers pair butyl tape under fasteners with lap sealant on top.
Use the sealant provided if it's included, or use butyl tape under screw holes and seal the top with lap sealant. Do not use self-leveling sealant on polycarbonate domes, as it can cause cracks. Inspect pre-drilled holes for melted plastic residue and trim smooth for a good seal. Remove old sealant with heat and don't over-tighten screws.
Not typically; many Smoke skylights are just the outer dome. If you need both inside and outside, look for a kit that includes the inner garnish. Check what's in the box so you're not stuck sourcing parts mid-install. If adhesive or sealant is shown, verify it's actually included before starting.
Measure both the cutout and the overall size on your roof. Check bubble height too; a dome that's shorter than your original can press on the interior bubble. Verify shape (rectangular vs neo angle) so the flange lines up. If your old unit wasn't a perfect match, dry-fit before sealing to avoid stress or gaps.
A Smoke skylight helps cut harsh sunlight and reduce heat in the living area. The darker tint can make it feel cooler while still letting in light. Some replacements are noted as thicker and darker than OEM for a sturdier feel. If you prefer a brighter space, compare Smoke to clear before deciding.
