Best 2017 Honda Ridgeline Watersport Carriers

I bought two of the Malone MegaWing kayak roof rake and I am super happy I did. They are easy to load and with both kayaks up there no problem operating the vehicle. Additionally, the megawing prevent oil canning. I have had other kayak racks, but none of them compare to the Malone MegaWing. And lastly, my set up looks amazing and super sexy with both kayaks up there.

I bought these for my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, for use with 2, small, 10.5' kayaks. They work great. Installation is easy. Most importantly, getting boats up on the roof is much easier than using J-Hook style racks. I do put a rag on the back of the roof of the car to rest the boats on before loading, as advised in the instructions.

Installed it today on my Thule rack. Great product!

The problem: How to transport kayaks with smaller vehicle as weight of cross & kayak racks plus kayaks was above vehicle roof weight limits. So I shopped for a "kayak" trailer. I did a bit of testing to figure out how long it would take for the vacuum to loose pressure. I left the racks installed over night following the installation instructions and when I checked on the sucking cups the next day, there was one that needed to be pumped twice, but outside of that all of them were holding on nice a tight. After strapping up a 12.6 Slingshot Nitro Standup Paddle board and driving an hour up the road. Everything held up perfectly. I did not exceed 55MPH on my way up just to make sure all was well. On my way back I went up to 65MPH and no issues. I would recommend having a none lint cloth with you to clean the surface and the suction cups prior to re-installing the SeaSucker back onto the car roof. Overall, very confident in it's ability to hold the board in place and not have extra hardware to install permanently on my Rover!

I have only used the product twice but it works as advertised. Very easy to install and remove. Great service from ETRAILER. I finally have a solid surf rack on my 2014 beetle.

I purchased the Rhino legs, cross bars and J-style kaya carriers together and could not be more pleased with the combination. The system was installed in an evening and used the next day. Assembly is straight-forward; the racks are easily mounted and removed. I am 6' tall and found it helpful to use a 4' ladder to mount the racks on the cross bars as well as load the kayaks in the carriers.

I've mounted both the Rhino-Rack RS 2500 Roof Rack and these S512 J-style Folding Kayak Carriers that I purchased from etrailer. Everything was easy to install, fits well, looks and works great! I am extremely happy with the products, the deliveries and the customer service rep was friendly and helpful when I had a question about the fit of the kayak carriers. I own a 2009 Honda Ridgeline and the carrier rack looks great with very little wind noise while driving. I'm taking the kayak out for a trip tomorrow morning.

Great product and great customer service! Very easy to install, but I highly recommend to watch the installation video first. We used typical black office clips to clip the excess straps down since they came untangled when driving. Also, I recommend to purchase locks for the racks since we are concerned someone may steal them because they are so easy to take on and off.

Wow is all I can say. I put the Malone cross bars on and then this went up in less than an hour. For an older very petite woman, It went up very easy. Yes, be aware shorties: you need a step stool to be able to get the rack up. I have a folding one that will go in my car. Yep so glad I did this. Thank you Paul B for the help in getting exactly what I needed.

Boxes were in rough shape from shipping but racks were in perfect shape inside. Seems well made and hopefully will be a good replacement for my hullavator which have broken gas shocks.

The Sweet Roll will not support my Old Town Topwater 10.6. The brackets spread out on the crossbar under the weight. This year I will try a Yakima Big Catch. The Sweet Roll works fine with our Old Town Loons.

Pretty disappointing. The product is not really made for Yakima's round bars. It's made for their rectangular bars. Round bar adaptors are included, but they are poor. Even if you clamp them on very very tightly, they will tend to rotate on the bars and the saddles don't stay level when you slide the kayak on. Even during transport, they have been rotating sometimes, causing the kayak to become slightly loose in the saddles. Very disappointing for the price. I would not recommend these for use on round bars.

This is a perfect fit for my needs I found this easy to load by myself. I wasn’t sure about the height of the racks but it turned out to be perfect. I had a full size pickup that was way to tall for this 79 yr old to load, but on the Maverick a with the elevated rack system and the Rhino kayak it works great.

Not the products fault. They were supposed to fit the pre-Thule TracOne rack. Directly asked etrailers support.They don’t fit it. Returned them and grumbled

I can't lift my kayak onto my roof rack like I could when I was younger. This looked like a perfect answer to keep me actively using my kayak. It is simple to use, but it does take some strength as you have to lift your kayak onto the loader and must lift the kayak up onto the roof rack as it only loads to just before the top, so keep that in mind. The legs need to be about 6" - 8" longer as mine don't touch the ground at the connectors. I can only reach the ground with them lowered to where they are almost out of the holder. They also touch the Jeep, so I am going to have to carry something to fit between the loader and the Jeep to prevent scratching the door paint. I think if the legs were longer and they fit with both the holder/connectors then I think they might not touch the Jeep. I would have given 5 stars if the legs were long enough. It works with both my moulded J rack and my fold down J rack. It works with both style of kayaks, rounded and straight hulls.

This kayak carrier works great with my factory Rav4 roof rack and 10' Tamarack Angler kayak. I did break one tightener knob but probably over-tightened it. And it was replaced for free. I can load and unload the kayak easily and it doesn't budge going down the freeway. I can even drive in and out of the garage with the kayak on the rack for easy storage hanging from the rafters.

Installed this Thule Top Deck Rooftop Kayak Carrier System with tie onto our Thule Roof rack system. Easy to install and this will carry our handmade 17' Wooden Sea Kayak. Very well made.

Very good quality materials for the price point. No tool Assembly and installation is a bonus. I’ve used them for two weeks now, hailing in both two kayak and single kayak configurations. The lever that you pull Up/down on is going to break. Period. If you have the rotating level too tight you can’t switch it up or down and if you have it too loose, it will come unscrewed and then you have a hard time longing up that no internal thread to get it back on. Also, it’s a pain to have to move the entire system to reconfigure needs. Would be nice if it had a slide and lock back in option once on the cross bars. Pulling off 16 wing nuts isn’t ideal. The video was great, appreciated that. Do wish they had shown how to tie down when using two kayaks because once you have one on the system when you place the second on the opposite side, you no longer have access to that center rack. Shipping speed was excellent. The quality of the cam straps is impressive. I have a hand injury and so getting the bolts secured was difficult. The fact that they come with two different lengths to accommodate different rack heights was really nice. Make sure you have your cross bars 24” apart as the instructions say.

This carrier has worked out really well! I paired it with the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack for Naked Roofs - Square Crossbars, and the carrier attached to it perfectly. I drive a 2014 Honda Civic and this carrier has been able to transport two kayaks with no problems. Highly recommend, especially considering the price.

Ordering was very easy and I really like the fact that I had reviews from others "with pictures". That helped me tremendously. The items came within 2 days (WOW). I didn't expect that. They are exactly like show and I will be installing them today. I don't expect any problems. (update after installation) I have now installed and I would have given a rating of Excellent, but I did not because of 1 problem I had. The screws that come with the product are soooo cheap that they all began to strip out as I installed them. And yes I was using the right Phillips head bit and I even had my drill set to stop if it hit resistance. The Phillips head has very small cross threads. If you look at the pics you'll see what I mean. This Phillips head is too small of threads for a larger 2" screw like this. As such, I ended up having to spend $20 on a screw extraction product (Grabit drill extraction) to get 1 of them out. I since replaced all these crappy screws with ones with better heads that are made of actual metal, not paper-mache that looks like metal. By the way, the Grabit screw extraction tool works great... Now that they're up, they look great and do perform exactly like I expected. I would definitely recommend these...

Mounted the kayak rack yesterday and wanted to offer some feedback. In general, a pretty easy process. The screws do seem to be pretty soft; easy to strip a bit, even with 1/8" holes drilled. No disaster, but could be improved. What is wrong is that the straps seem backward. The clamp is mounted so that you must pull up to tighten the strap. Would be better/simpler to pull down on the strap. I see why the longer strap is at the top, but still bad mechanics. I mounted my rack pretty high on the wall, and not being tall, will have a problem using the strap as oriented. In addition, the clamp strap has no means to adjust its length. My kayak (a Poke boat) is pretty slim in cross-section, which makes tightening the strap very difficult unless I get on a ladder. I realize that some of this issue is due to the height that I mounted the rack, but I had to make sure that it put my boat completely out of the way of the car, bikes, etc., with which it shares the space. Would give the rack a good rating, but the odd engineering design and lack of a way to adjust the strap length are disappointing. Overall, does what I need though, just could be a killer rack with some slight changes.

These work great. Bought two sets of them to haul two 13ft kayaks on my Honda Ridgeline. Installed them on a set of Thule Aeroblades. Easy to put on, though slightly longer bolts would have made it easier. The carriers' hold the boats securely in place. Easy to load and tie down.

Arrived quickly and was very easy to assemble and attach to the roof of my Jeep. Now that I have the initial setup complete with the proper placement of the entire system, attaching and removing the kayaks will be a breeze. Will definitely make hauling our kayaks much easier and safer.

As all Thule products the Thule universally mounted canoe carrier is great. It came with all required items for safe and easy canoe transportation. There are two straps with pull to fasten for the canoe down, two tie down ropes for each end with nice pull tight and release mechanisms for the cord as well, along with two straps to fasten to the canoe ends used with the pull to tighten cords. The Chevy traverse cross bar had to have the plastic end caps removed for use with Thule canoe carrier. This was because my canoe took up the entire cross bar width to allow for Thule mounts. It is not a big deal to remove the plastic end caps. They only provide a finished stream lined look. Happy and Safe Canoeing

After retiring my 1999 Chevy Silverado 4x4 pickup, I purchased a 2017 Subaru Outback as a replacement vehicle. To transport my 1981 17 foot QT17C Alumacraft canoe on the factory installed roof rack crossbars that came with the Outback, I selected the Thule Portage Canoe Carrier w/ Tie-Downs - Gunwale Brackets - Side Loading - TH819 to do the trick. With one previous transport of the canoe sitting directly on the Outback roof racks, I realized those Outback roof racks were not as durable as the racks on my truck so I sought an improvement to avoid future scuffing and scratching. I did some advance research online and couldn’t be more pleased with this purchase from etrailer.com. I now have a quality product at the right price and these gunwale brackets are a simple solution for this veteran canoe man. The padded brackets grip the canoe and stopped the scratches. The high-quality load straps are nice with the rubber pad that covers the buckle and they easily snug the canoe tight to the racks. I’m also impressed with the bow/stern tie downs that have a very nice ratchet and clip on one end and I secured the supplied hook with a bowline knot to the other end of the ¼ inch rope. The Outback did not have convenient anchor points on the front or back of the vehicle for tie down locations but I found a good solution there as well by ordering the Thule Bow/Stern Tie-Downs - Qty 2 - TH530. This works well with the tie downs I mentioned previously. One limitation to be aware of with the Subaru Outback roof racks and this product is the width of your canoe. My 17-footer measures 34 inches at its widest point at the portage yoke. I had to place the four brackets up tight against the inside roof mounting to achieve the spread and accommodate the canoe placement. The canoe ended up fitting like a glove on the padded brackets. When placing the strap to hold the canoe down to the crossbars, I ran the strap through the vehicles tie down points and then under the crossbars for added security. Total product installation time including securing the canoe can easily be achieved in approximately 20 minutes. I look forward to many more years of safe and happy canoeing. My biggest worry is losing a kayak off the roof, and these carriers are super secure. Never had a worry. They come with ropes, and I always use them, but I've never seen the ropes get any added tension because their so secure. Also, with my bad back, these are pretty easy to load and unload. I'm 6'2 and have no trouble even though these are pretty high up on the Highlander. I always protect the car with a rug, but rarely does the kayak even touch the rug. You don't have to lift the whole weight of the kayak up to shoulder height, just get one end up to the load assist, and then slide it on, same thing in reverse to unload. Easily mount to the factory roof rack, no need for an expensive system. Took them off for the winter, and am getting ready to remount for a new year of exploring lakes and rivers.

I love my Rack it came when promised and etrailer was great believe me I will be going back to them for anything else I need I am giving them a well deserved 5 stars

Good quality materials and easy to install - and uninstall. Two changes would give this product 5 stars: Some type of strap holder at the top of the back rack would make it easier to strap down the kayaks and some type of security lock so someone doesn't borrow your new racks while you are out kayaking. One unique thing to remember for the 2017 Toyota RAV4: the back OEM cross bar is about 3" shorter than the front cross bar - this takes some adjustments for the placement of the racks to fit 2 kayaks and still open the rear hatch.

Used them a couple times and they are performing as expected. I have to mount the kayaks a little forward to clear the 5-er, but they road well at 65 mph into a head wind. Yes, bow straps are used.

I have a 4 by 8 trailer that I carry 3 kayaks. The Malone fold away carrier folds down that makes loading the middle kayak easier. It is sturdy and well made

The Yakima roller make it easier to load and secure a kayak to the roof of a 4Runner. The fit is secure enough that I don't need to use bow & stern straps for shorter trips.
