I do have a couple options for you but Class I hitches like the Draw-Tite Class I Sport Frame part # 24773 that fits the 2008 Mazda 5 are designed to only carry 2 bikes because of it's limited tongue weight rating. The weight of the bikes and bike rack is all considered tongue weight on the hitch and putting 4 bikes on a rack in a Class I hitch would create too much leverage and possibly damage the hitch or vehicle. With that being said, I recommend to get a 2 bike rack for the Class I... view full answer...
Hey Sam! You are correct the Draw-Tite hitch item # 24773 does fit your 2009 Mazda 5 minivan. This is a class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver. It is custom fit and bolts to your Mazda with included hardware.
I have linked an installation video below that will help you get this hitch set up.
As far as your base plate question goes, I can only go off of the parts our vendors have listed that fit your Mazda 5. My information says that the 2009 Mazda 5 minivan can not be flat towed only dolly... view full answer...
Truck bed dimensions vary between brands. A short bed Chevy truck is going to have different dimensions than a short bed Ford truck.
If you follow the link I attached and select the year/make/model of your Ford truck you will see the different tonneau covers that are confirmed to fit your vehicle. view full answer...
Hey James,
That's a good question, but as long as you torque everything down correctly (the install manual will call out specific torque ratings), using Loctite or another thread locker really isn't necessary. I actually don't recommend doing this because it could make any potential maintenance down the line a pretty frustrating experience. view full answer...
From the lowest point to the highest point on the Malone Profile18B Rooftop Cargo Box # MPG911 it measures 15-3/4" tall.
Any additional height from your crossbars would have to be added after the fact as we won't have that information. Seeing as though you only have 15-5/8" total of clearance I'd say it's safe to say that you won't be able to keep the cargo box installed when you park your car in the garage. view full answer...
If you look at the attached photos, you can see how a custom trailer hitch receiver, like the Draw-Tite # 24874 or Curt # # C11127 are designed to avoid interference with the exhaust system. Universal hitches, like # C13900, have a cross tube that runs straight across, which will not work on your 2013 Mazda 5.
Short of having a local fab shop fabricate and weld a custom 2 inch receiver for you, you're going to be limited to the 200 lbs of tongue weight that one of our custom hitches can... view full answer...
Yes, you will need a Replacement Cover Strip for Thule Aerobar # 852-4498-001.
This is a replacement lower cover for your Thule Aero Blade bar. view full answer...
If you are using the Rhino-Rack Aero Bar Crossbars like # RRVA137B they have a dimension of 54" long x 3-1/8" wide x 1-3/16" tall which works for Thule boxes that use the PowerClick quick-release clamps, including the Thule Vector Alpine Rooftop Cargo Box # TH613501.
The Vector Alpine Rooftop box is literally the NICEST cargo box I have ever had the pleasure of installing. Yes, it is a premium price but it truly is the most premium box you can buy in my opinion. I have only used the Vector... view full answer...
Flat towing a car behind a motorhome requires a number of components. Each of these is explained in the linked overview article on flat towing. Some cars will require specific preparation steps before they can be flat towed and the car owner's manual will indicate if this is the case. You'll want to check the index in your Mazda 5 owner's manual under the heading 'recreational towing' to see if any steps are required before the car can be flat towed. I also included two other articles to... view full answer...
The nub you mentioned is actually there intentionally to prevent what you are trying to do as annoying as that sounds. You see there are Class I and Class II hitches that are 1-1/4 inch sized like what you have. The difference is Class II has higher capacities than the very low capacity Class I hitch.
So to prevent Class II only accessories from being used in a Class I hitch they put that nub in the hitch and then only Class I hitch accessories have a cut out portion in the shank which... view full answer...
The flashing O.L. message with the Curt Discovery Brake Controller part # C84VV when there is no trailer connected indicates that there is a short somewhere on the brake output circuit. I would check all the connections you made on the blue wire from the controller and then also check the trailer connector at the rear of the vehicle looking for any exposed wire or corrosion and fix as necessary.
If it only flashes O.L. when the trailer is connected the problem is the same as above but... view full answer...
I have a solution for you, but unfortunately there are not any fit kits available for your vehicle that would allow you to use the 400XT system, and you will need to go with a new roof rack. While I'm sure this isn't the news you would like to hear, I will give you a recommendation for a new roof rack that will fit your vehicle.
I recommend going with the Thule SquareBar Evo Crossbars 47" # TH712200 along with the necessary Feet # TH460R and Fit Kit # THKIT3080. This is the newer updated... view full answer...
Since the Draw-Tite # 24874 has restrictive tab in it, it still may prevent you from using any type of adapter for 2" hitch accessories in a 1-1/4" hitch. Because of that reason I recommend going with the Curt Class I Hitch # C11127 since it does not have the restrictive weld stop that would keep you from freely using a 1-1/4" adapter for your 2" receiver accessories.
Because of the limited capacity when using adapter accessories, if you'd like an option to carry more bikes I recommend... view full answer...
Actually there are drill bits made for power drills that will work just like a die grinder. So I would recommend you get one of those drill bits and then use it with your drill to enlarge the access holes of your 2012 Mazda 5 to install the Curt Hitch # C11127.

Take a look at the video I attached of the Yakima roof rack system being installed on a 2013 Mazda 5. About 20 seconds in you see the installer remove the black covers along the strips on the roof. Under these covers are mounting points for the roof rack to fasten to.
The Yakima system that fits your 2017 Mazda and is similar to the system in the video consists of the 48 inch round bars # Y00408, SkyLine towers # Y53TR, adapters # Y03536, and landing pads # Y00248. This is my favoite... view full answer...
For your 2015 Mazda 5 the Draw Tite hitch part # 24874 has been confirmed as a fit. The tongue weight rating of this hitch is 200 lbs. Which means it can handle 200 lbs of vertical weight at the hitch opening. A 700 lb trailer would most likely have a tongue weight right around 70 lbs.
That being said, if the owners manual of your vehicle states that you can't tow with it there's nothing we can recommend for you that would allow you to do so. You can also check with a Mazda dealer to see... view full answer...
When mounting a cargo bag to the roof of a vehicle the best way to keep the bag from sliding back and forth during starts and stops is to have the bag mounted between the crossbars. Depending on how full the Thule Interstate bag, # TH869, is, you may be able to fit it in between the bars. Otherwise, the bag is long enough and rigid enough at the ends that it should not just ooze over the bars at the ends. I have included a link to a video review and another link to all the roof mount bag... view full answer...
All of the hitches we offer for the 2013 Mazda 5 are Class I hitches that have a 200 lb tongue weight rating. You would want the Draw Tite part # 24874 as it does not require the use of a stabilizer strap with a carrier like the Curt does, and doesn't come with a ball mount that you wouldn't need.
If the carrier you are interested in weighs less than 40 lbs and is Class I compatible then this hitch would work well for you. If not, then you would have to look into a small trailer option. view full answer...
To use a rooftop cargo bag on your Mazda5 minivan with sliding doors, you'll need an option from Rightline, which installs with clips to a naked roof. You will need to ensure your vehicle has weather molding which you can attach the clips underneath as well. You can see in the linked instructions how to attach the clips. Your options for a rooftop bag are:
- Rightline Gear Sport Jr. Rooftop Cargo Bag - Waterproof - 10 cu ft # RL100S50

On a Class I hitch you should never carry more than 2 bikes with a hitch mounted bike rack. The reason is because of the additional weight and leverage of the additional 2 bikes would be too much for the hitch/frame and would most likely cause damage. I attached an FAQ on hitch classifications for you to check out.
At this time there are only Class I hitches available for your vehicle (like the Curt Trailer Hitch # C11127 you referenced). However, you if you really need to transport 4... view full answer...
