Question:

Hello, I have a 2009 Mazda 5 minivan with 5 speed manual transmission. Looking to add a tow hitch, 24773. This shows it fits 2006 to 2010. Also looking to add base plate for RV tow-behind vehicle. There is not base plate available. However, BX2522 fits 2006/2007 BX2525 fits 2010. The is generation should be mostly the same from 2006 to 2011. Would I be able to adapt either onto my 2009? or would the 2010 fit the 2009 as well? Thank you in advance for your assistance. Sam

Hey Sam! You are correct the Draw-Tite hitch item # 24773 does fit your 2009 Mazda 5 minivan. This is a class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver. It is custom fit and bolts to your Mazda with included hardware.

I have linked an installation video below that will help you get this hitch set up.

As far as your base plate question goes, I can only go off of the parts our vendors have listed that fit your Mazda 5. My information says that the 2009 Mazda 5 minivan can not be flat towed only dolly towed with a tow dolly like item # RM-2050-1. This means none of our vendors have any base plates listed as fitting your van and I can't recommend or advise you how to install a part that isn't designed for your vehicle.

Hey Sam, how did things go with the Draw-Tite hitch on your Mazda 5? Were you able to get it bolted up smoothly using the included hardware? Your feedback could help others looking to tow with the same van.

@JerredH Everything bolted up quick and easy. The installation went very smooth and I did not need a car lift. I have used to to tow trailers without any issues. I would definitely recommend this for those that may want to tow a light trailer from time to time. You are only limited by the vehicle's structure design/power. I towed a single axle jetski trailer without issue. I also towed a dual axle heavy duty trailer with a light load without any issues. I kept the load under 3000 pounds because the Mazda 5 is a small 4 cylinder motor on a very light frame. I accelerated slowly and dropped down a gear to keep the revs up a little higher for better torque.
