Video Transcript for Pollak Wiring PK11501 Review

Today we're going to be reviewing part number PK11501. This is the Pollak Five-Pole Round Pin Trailer Wiring Connector. The standard five-pole plug is going to connect the trailer to the socket on the tow vehicle. It's going to feature the round split brass contacts. That's going to insure that minimum voltage drop and maximum current capacity are attained. It's going to feature dielectric non-conducting grease coating on all those.

Those are going to prevent corrosion and resistance. It's also going to feature the solid brass terminal screws. It's got a nice chrome-plated die-cast zinc housing for durability. It's also got the easy-to-use finger grips here on the sides. That's going to make insertion and removal very easy. It's going to feature the ABS thermoplastic interior and it's also got high-impact green insulators. The volt rating for this system is going to be 12 volts to 24 volts with a current rating of 15 amps.

When it comes to the wiring configuration, your white is going to be for your ground, your green is going to be for right turn and brake, your yellow is going to be for left turn and brake lights, your red is going to be your auxiliary circuit and then your brown is going to be for your tail lights. To gain access to the wiring there, all you need to do is undo the set screw. The set screw is actually going to allow this portion right here to come out of the housing. Then you'll run your wires through the grommet here on the back, connect the wires to the back of the housing and reinsert it, and then tighten back down the set screw and you'll be completely set to go. That's going to do it for our review of part number PK11501. This is the Pollak Five-Pole Round Pin Trailer Wiring Connector. .

This very hard to find item is of excellent quality and offers a very snug fit to it's male mate. etrailer had both the male and female items in stock, thereby providing super fast shipment at a very decent price. Prior to etrailer, no other parts provider even provided pictures of this item in their catalog. This item will be used to connect the electrical system of my Bushtec trailer to the mating connector mounted on my 2010 Honda Goldwing. Thank you etrailer!! 117026

Fit and finish seem to be very good. I was please to see the connector block (green round part) retaining screw was threaded into the external shell instead of the block. I also appreciate the internal shield to help prevent shorting against the shell. The matching vehicle side appears to be equally well made THANKS 14701

Do you have a question about this Wiring?

  • When Wiring a Motorcycle 5 Pin Round Trailer Plug What is the Standard Wiring Diagram
  • The Pollak 5-Pole, Round Pin Trailer Wiring Sockets, item # PK11502, and # PK11501, do not have a standardized wiring configuration. I normally direct my customers to the 6-way wiring configuration, eliminating the middle pin. Start by wiring the top most connector inside the vehicle end # PK11502, as with the taillight circuit (12 o-clock). Then looking inside the connector, where the wires are attached, going clockwise the next terminal (1 o-clock) position can be wired as brake output,...

  • How To Wire a Harley Ultra Classic with a 5-Pole Round and a Trailer with a 4 Pole Flat
  • I am guess that you have a connector similar to the 5-Pole round like part # PK11502. If this is the case, you have two options. You can either remove the 5-Pole round from your Harley and put a 4-Pole flat in place, or you can cut the connector of your trailer and use a 5-Pole connector for the trailer. I imagine the 5-Pole on the bike is mounted pretty well, so I would suggest replacing the trailer connector with a 5-Pole using part # PK11501. Using a circuit tester, like part # 3808,...

  • How to Make a 5-Way Round Pin to 7-Way Round Pin Trailer Connector Adapter
  • A 5-Way Round to 7-Way Round trailer adapter is not available, but I can tell you how to make one and what you will need. If the 5-Way round is on the vehicle, you will need the following: 5-Pole, Round Pin Trailer Wiring Connector, # PK11501 7-Pole, Round Pin Trailer Wiring Socket, # PK11720 7-Pole Rubber Socket Boot, # PK11761 Jacketed 6 Wire - per foot, # DW04906-1 (get 2 feet worth) Start by testing the functions of the 5-Way with a circuit tester, # 3808 if needed. • Adapting 5 Pin Round Connector on Harley-Davidson to 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector
  • The extra wire on your 5 pin H/D plug will serve one of two purposes. It is either the brake light signal or a constant 12-volt power feed to the trailer. You can easily determine which case you are dealing with by using a circuit tester like part # 40376 on the plug. Activate the turn signals, running lights and brakes to determine which pin carries which circuit. If the extra pin carries a constant 12-volts, and your trailer does not require any power supply, you could simply construct...

  • Availability of a 5 way Round Trailer Wiring Diagram
  • There is no standard diagram for the 5 way round connector, item # PK11501. You will need to use a circuit tester, item # 3808, to test the wires and wire the vehicle and trailer to match. When wiring, your green wire will be right turn/brake, the yellow wire will be left turn/brake, the brown wire will be the taillights, and the white wire will be the ground. From there, you can wire the remaining pole to any function you like such as power for trailer accessories, electric brakes,...

  • Is an Aftermarket Wiring Harness for a 2010 Harley Davidson UltraClassic Available
  • There may be a wiring harness that you can buy from the Harley Davidson dealer that will plug in to wiring under the seat and make wiring your 2010 Harley Davidson UltraClassic easier and keep you from having to tap into the motorcycles wiring. Whether you use the OEM adapter or not there are two situations for wiring Motorcycles for towing a trailer. The trailer will determine whether you need to use a converter or not. If the trailer has a standard 4-Way connector, like you mentioned,...

  • Adding a Converter and 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector, # 119176KIT to a Motorcycle to Tow a Trailer
  • While we do not carry a 5-Way round to 4-Way flat trailer connector adapter, you do have an option. Because motorcycles use a 5 wire system, you will need to use a converter, # 119179KIT, in order for the trailer to be compatible with the motorcycle wiring. I have included a link to the installation details for this wiring harness for reference. You will need to follow the steps for a 3 wire system. With this wiring harness installed it will be compatible with the 4-Way flat trailer connector...

  • Trailer Wiring Adapter for a 2012 Harley Trike To Tow an Escapade Motorcycle Trailer
  • I did some research and found that the Escapade trailers use a square 6-Way like # 37995 that you have referenced. From what I could find, the Harley trikes use a round 5-Way. No matter what is on the bike you will need to change one connector or the other. If it is easier to change the trailer side, you will just need to use a trailer side 5-Way that matches the bike 5-Way. If it is round, we have # PK11501. You will need to remove the plug on the trailer and attach the wires from...

  • Adapting 5 Pin Round Connector on a Trike to 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector
  • I have some options for you, however, I am not familiar with an adapter to convert a 5 pin round trailer connector to a 4-pole flat trailer connector. Since your trike has a 5 pin trailer connector, the extra wire on your 5 pin connector will serve one of two purposes. It is either the brake light signal or a constant 12-volt power feed to the trailer. You can easily determine which case you are dealing with by using a circuit tester like part # 40376 on the plug. • How to Make a 4-way to 5-way Adapter for Towing a Motorcycle Trailer
  • While there isn't an adapter available I can tell you how to make one. You will need a wiring converter like the part # RM-732, a 4-way to plug into your Ranger wiring like part # HM48110 and a 5-way to the trailer like part # HM47900. On the input side of the converter you will need to match the yellow and green colors from the # HM48110. • What Parts are Needed to Connect a 4-Pole Trailer to a 5-Pole Motorcycle
  • If your bike is a 5-Way flat wired like most vehicle 5-Ways, then you could just plug the 4-Way trailer connector in. Obviously the 5th wire will have no connection which is fine. If the bike is a 5-Way round, there currently not any adapters available. You could make your own adapter using part # PK11501 and part # 9653P.
