Video Transcript for Hopkins Wiring - Wiring Adapters - 37995 Review

Today we're going to review part number 37995, this is the Hopkins 6-Pole Square Trailer Wiring Connector Kit. You can see it has the square design 6-Pole on both connectors. It includes the male end, the male end is what would go on the trailer and includes the female end, 6-square end, which will go on to the vehicle. Basically the pigtail wires on each, they use an 18 gauge size wire. The length, give you an idea of the length on these, got a 12 inch ruler and basically you can see that you're about 12 inches in length on each one. Now basically what you would do is this one here, with the female end, this would connect to the vehicle, the tow vehicle, so you'd wire this in with the pigtail wires. This end, with the male ends, would go to the trailer, and again you'd wire those in.

Then basically all you would have to do is push that together, just like that, and you would have the six way connector. That should do it for the review on part number 37995, the Hopkins 6-Pole Square Trailer Wiring Connector Kit. .

This was exactly what I needed for a non-trailer application. I used a pair of these connectors for my antenna rotator wire connections so that I could disconnect them when I was moving the setup. The gauge of the stranded wire is substantial and easy to work with when stripping to make connections. Using it both under screws and soldering to other cables was easy. Color-coding matched the current cables. The two connectors might use a bit of light lubrication to more easy push together and pull apart. 547183

Great FAST service and fortunately it was the correct size I needed.. bought the camper used with just pigtail.. Not quite as heavy of wiring I would like as my truck and camper are larger.. #10 or #8 on the power wires would be nice! But for the price and it serves the tail lights well.. a fair deal... will be buying a decent 7 pin 10' jumper and do it right! 513672

  • Solution for Trailer with 6-Way Square Connector to Be Towed by Truck with 7-Way
The only solution we are going to be able to provide for you is to build an adapter like you mentioned or do what most people do and replace the connector you have on your trailer with a standard 7-way so that it will work with your truck and most other tow vehicles out there. The square 6-way you have is pretty uncommon and typically comes with an adapter from the trailer manufacturer to attach to a 7-way, but in your case I would just remove it and install a # H20046 in its place so that...

  • Running Lights Do Not Work on Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer Pulled with a 2008 Saturn Vue
The first step I would take is to check the vehicle side and trailer side connectors for any corrosion or dirt build up that could cause a bad connection and clean it out. If the connectors look clean, then you should use a circuit tester, # 40376, to check the trailer connector on the back of your 2008 Saturn Vue. Make sure you are getting a signal at each pin when that function is activated. I have attached a video of my co-worker testing a 4-flat trailer connector for you to reference....

  • 6-Way Motorcycle Trailer Connector that Doesn't Require Mounting
How does a 6-way SQUARE sound? Based on what you described the part # 37995 would be your best option as it comes with both sides of a 6-way connector that neither require mounting permanently to the motorcycle or trailer. The reason I recommended this is that there are no 6-way flat connectors and the round ones are designed to be mounted on the vehicle side. I attached a review video for this for you to check out as well.

  • Adding a Trailer Wiring Harness to a 2002 Dodge Durango to Tow a 1996 Jayco Trailer
We can get you set up to tow your Jayco trailer with the 6-Way connector. First, on your 2002 Dodge Durango, you will need to install Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118334. I have included a link to the installation details and a link to a video showing a typical installation for you to view. The 6-Way square plug is a rarity. What I recommend is replacing the 6-Way on the trailer with a 7-Way RV style connector. It will be fairly simple. You will just need a 7-Way connector,...

  • Recommended Replacement Wiring for 1996 Dutchman Duck with Obsolete Wiring Harness
Thank you for the picture. If the contacts on your trailer connector are like those on the Hopkins 6-Pole Square Connector Kit # 37995 then you can use 1/2 of this kit to replace your trailer's damaged connector and also Hidden Hitch adapter # 30104 to join it to your 4-pole-equipped vehicle. If this is not your connector then your best bet is to re-wire the trailer with a new 4-pole connector to match what is on your vehicle. You can use a junction box like # 38656 to join the existing...

  • Troubleshooting Flashing Trailer Lights After Replacing 6-way with 4-Way
It sounds like you wired up your new 4-way wrong. What you will want to do is use a 12-volt battery and jumper wire to test all of the wires of your trailer so you can determine their function and then wire up the trailer to your new 4-way according. The white wire of your 4-way will be the ground, brown will be running lights, the yellow will be left turn/brake, and the green right turn/brake.

  • Looking for Adapter For 6 Pole Square Trailer Connector on Dutchman Camper
It probably wouldn't work. Jayco used a proprietary harness that most likely wouldn't fit. The 6 pole square harness is pretty much obsolete at this point, your best bet would be to cut it off and replace it with a more common trailer connector. In the photo, it looks like there's only 4 wires on the wiring harness. If that's the case, you could just use # 18004. If the wiring harness has 6 or 7 wires, I'd recommend using a 7-way connector like part # A7WCB, as it's what's most commonly...

  • Replacing Trailer Connector Wiring for Rockwood A122 A-Frame Trailer with 6-Pole Square Wiring
Instead of replacing both the 7-Way blade-style connector as well as the 6-Pole square connectors, # 37995, I recommend using a 7-Way connector and junction box to make the connections for your trailer. This will eliminate the additional, unnecessary connection at the 6-Pole square connectors. The 7-Way connector I recommend is the Hopkins 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector with 6 Foot Lead # H20044. This connector will provide power for left turn and brake signals, right turn and...

  • 7-Way Trailer Connector for a Truck that has a 4-Way Flat Connector
Are you sure it is a 6-Way and not a 7-Way blade style such as # 37185? The center counts as a pin. I have not heard of a 6-Way blade style connector, not to say that it doesn't exist but I haven't seen one myself. There might also be a way to add a 7-Way to the truck without having to cut or splice anything. If you can tell me the year, make, and model of the truck I can determine if there is a 7-Way that will work other than a hardwire option.

  • How to Make a 6-Way Square to 4-Way Flat Trailer Wiring Adapter
The 6-Way square trailer connector is not used by a lot of trailer manufacturers. A lot of Jayco trailers may have them but mostly you come across the 4-Way flat, like what you have on your trailer, and the 7-Way blade for RV applications. What I recommend is to convert the 6-Pole on the Monaco to a 4-Way. You can do this very easily by removing the 6-Way plug, and then testing the wires for function using a circuit tester like # 3808 if needed before installing them in a new 4-Way,...

Your trailer light functioning sporadically and the lack of function at other times leads me to believe there is a power issue. It sounds like there is a ground connection issue, but it could also be that there is a power supply issue. I recommend testing your wiring using an incandescent circuit tester like # PTW2993. If the adapter you are talking about was purchased and not hard wired then it could be the 4-way flat to 6-way square adapter for a Jayco RV, item # 30104, and those adapters are wired differently than most other trailers with 6-way connectors and this could be why your lights are not functioning...
