Product Expert Lindsey S's Opinion

Why would I buy this?

  • Rotating latches let you really fine-tune the tension on the bars for good weight distribution
  • Built-up capacity works with trailers that other weight distribution systems can't support
  • Quieter ride than systems with steel brackets or cams - no scraping or loud popping

Why wouldn't I buy this?

  • The chain setup just won't give you enough tension for good sway control
  • Included wrench can be a pain to use
  • You'll have to buy a hitch ball separately
Shank fits 2-1/2" hitches and offers up to an 8" rise and a 2" drop. System uses optimal points of tension to help prevent sway while it balances your trailer's load for a more level ride. Works with underslung couplers. Lowest Prices for the best weight distribution from Blue Ox. Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

Unique Features of Blue Ox SwayPro

Blue Ox SwayPro Spring Bars

Unlike other weight distribution systems, the SwayPro has automatically locking brackets throughout. Both spring bars insert, slotted side up, into the head assembly and then lock securely in place. Removal is just as easy - simply lift the locking pins on the trunnions and slide the bars out. Blue Ox spring bars are interchangeable with each other. If you buy a new trailer or tow vehicle and you need to increase or decrease your capacity, you can simply buy new spring bars instead of purchasing a whole new system.

Blue Ox SwayPro Rotating Latch Brackets

Other systems have lift brackets that require you to apply a good amount of leverage to get them to snap up, which can be difficult and frustrating. With the SwayPro, all you have to do is insert the lift chain into the bracket slot and rotate the bracket with the included wrench until the lock pin engages.

Another feature of the SwayPro is the easy-to-use head. The required pitch is already built into the head, so the only adjustment that may be needed is the placement of the head on the shank. Move the head up or down along the weight distribution shank to achieve the proper height. No additional, fine-tune adjustment is needed, which means no hard-to-access washers or difficult-to-use thumbscrew.

Built-In Tension Stops Sway

Blue Ox SwayPro System with Built-In Sway Control Hooked Up

The SwayPro offers four points of built-in sway control. Within the head assembly, the trunnions are designed to hold the spring bars securely in position, placing just enough tension on them to cause them to constantly force your trailer in line. At the other end of this weight distribution system, the rotating brackets ensure that the lift chains are pulled as taut as possible. In addition, the basic design of the brackets keeps much of the length of the lift chains wrapped up inside of the brackets. Typically, only a couple of links hang down from each bracket. So each chain is held more stable than in traditional weight distribution systems, where more than twice as many links are exposed. This tight, stable design limits the movement of the spring bars so that they can exert more force on your trailer to effectively keep it from shifting side to side. Furthermore, unlike many friction-style sway controls, the SwayPro allows you to back up your trailer without having to remove or disengage the system.

We have a 24' travel trailer pulled by a Suburban. This hitch levels everything out and makes handling much easier. Very little sway, only during windy storms and the suburban is much easier to drive. This hitch is also easy to set up (we were lucky to have a local store install it) and very well built. Etrailer delivered it fast, no damage and had the best price by far. 524533

Great hitch. Weve taken 3 trips to other states and have even had a tire blow out and this hitch is so good, I almost forget the trailer is there.

Outstanding service! I ordered several components from etrailer late afternoon and I received them the next day. Everything was well packaged and nothing was missing. I was also told to call if I had any questions. We'll use them again. 217215

This is a wonderful product. We pulled a 25 travel trailer on a long trip last year and I didnt have to worry about any sway on any road. The Blue Ox handles cross winds easy also. Very easy to use, I wouldnt buy anything else!

I have had the Blue Ox 2,000 lbs WD hitch for a little over 1 year. My previous WD hitch was under capacity based on the tongue weight of my 37 ft travel trailer. This hitch has greatly improved the pulling stability of my trailer over the previous set-up. It has exceeded my expectations. 451573

Review from a similar Blue Ox SwayPro in Weight Distribution

Finally got around to installing the Blue Ox Sway Pro hitch with bolt on chain latches. The process was straight forward after viewing youtube vids, taking time to be sure all my measurements were correct. With the bolt on chain latches you do not get many chances to get it right. I could not use clamp on as my V-nose RV did not have room above the frame to clear the clamp on latch.. drilling was a pain as clearances on my frame were tight and I had to go around a electrical junction box on the inside of the frame.. but once on, it was a breeze to set up. The overall quality of the hitch was great and I don't miss having to set the angle of the hitch head (it's fixed) making the only adjustments necessary was hitch height and chain length. I initially set mine up using 9 links on the chain, but once I got out on the road, I noted the RV was riding nose low so I went up to 10 links on the chain. Now the truck and RV are level, the truck rides and handles as I expected. I have not had the rig out on a long haul, so I can't comment about the sway control of the hitch.Truck is a 2013 Ford F150 ecoboost, max tow 3.73 gears, rv is a 6600lb (empty) V-nose 25ft toy hauler. I like the chain latch set up. Easy to use especially on a V-nose trailer. The concept of sway control with the short length chain is feasible and after this week trip (with some interstate time), I will report back if it doesn't work as advertised. All in all I am happy with the hitch and of course happy with the eTrailer purchasing process. 102170

Comments

A year later and we have used this hitch many, many times and couldnt be happier with the purschase. Hook up is a breeze. Have had the chance on several occasions to get on the Interstate with the big trucks and wind and the sway control works. I am very pleased with the hitch. Thanks Blue Ox and eTrailer!

This weight distribution system is the best. It is easy to install and if you need to put it on a different trailer that has a different weight you just have to buy new distribution bars. 78458

This system works great. Needs to have a better system to lock in the parts that go on your trailer rails. Sometime they come loose.

Review from a similar Blue Ox SwayPro in Weight Distribution

Have used the SwayPro for 1 year now and overall very satisfied. I tow a 23' Airstream which weighs about 5500 lbs. The receiver hitch mount that comes with the SwayPro was unable to get the ball low enough as instructed in the Install Instructions so I gave Blue Ox a call and they immediately shipped out the one I needed and I shipped them the original. The BO SwayPro is fairly easy to operated and is quiet. I will say that it does not eliminate sway, I have tried several different adjustments but anytime I drive above 65mph, especially in headwinds or gusty conditions, sway is possible. The sway is manageable by slowing and never gets too bad but it will make you grip the steering wheel tighter. I was not surprised by this, just had a hard time shelling out the $2500 needed for the non-swaying hitches. 407456

Comments

The Blue Ox is performing fine, it does not eliminate sway but as long as I drive 65 mph or less, sway is rarely an issue. As you go over 65 sway can happen with adverse winds, semis passing, or poor road conditions. One other nuisance, is when I attempt to disconnect the chain on the right side, the chain sometimes gets wedged in the metal channel that you rotate and will not release. Usually I have to spray the area with a lubricant and then rotate the whole “chain engaging device” back and forth and the chain will become unstuck so that I can get the bar off. All else is fine, sometimes I do wish I had bought the Pro Pride but that seems a bit too complicated, heavy and expensive.

Bought the Sway Pro to replace a hitch that had separate sway control. The Blue Ox works better on the road as trucks pass us and I really like backing up without loosening the sway friction. This Blue Ox WDH does not come with a ball. Had to have U-Haul tighten the 50mm nut on the 2 5/16” ball. Odd torque value for the hitch bolts too? Etrailer matched the prices and delivered in TWO days! 447330

I have been using the Blue Ox SwayPro WD Hitch for 1,500 tongue weight on our 30' Arctic Fox travel trailer for one year now. No regrets as this hitch has been an easy to setup and use and it seems to do it's job nicely. Due to the height of our trailer's hitch I ordered a Reese Titan Weight Dist Shank to use with the SwayPro and the pair work great together. 135639

Review from a similar Blue Ox SwayPro in Weight Distribution

Have only used it to drive 15 miles from my trailer dealer to home, but I think I'm going to like this WDH. It seems to do the job, is relatively easy to use. The dealer I bought my trailer from mounted it for me, they'd done many before so it went quickly. Some hints I'd learned from them and discussion forums - use the trailer jack to lift the front of the trailer/back of the truck to make it easier and safer to install or remove the chains. Use a long breaker bar with a 1" socket for the same reason - the extra leverage over that with the tool supplied with the hitch helps. I painted the chain link on each side that the dealer hooked to so I could get the tension back the way they had it. Will have to see how that works out in the long run, may have to adjust up or down. FWIW, I measured the distance from the ground to the top of the front and rear fender wells on my truck before and after hooking up the trailer with the BO Sway Pro. The front ended up exactly where it was before, the rear dropped only one inch with 1000 lbs of hitch weight. I'd say the WDH is doing its job! 462535

Comments

Ive replaced the 1 socket with a 26mm socket, as it fits better. Only snag we are running into is that the u-bolts that hold the chains to the arms are being bent and worn down from occasional ground scrapes. Ive purchased a pair of the little u-bolts and four self locking nuts from e-trailer, so Ill be prepared if they ever do rub or break off completely.

Review from a similar Blue Ox SwayPro in Weight Distribution

I have both an Equalizer and this Blue Ox hitch. I purchased the Blue Ox after I complained of a poor ride with my travel trailer to the dealer. They recommended Blue Ox instead. Frankly it didn't improve the ride at all. Worse, the bars hung so low that they scraped on every speed bump. However this was exacerbated by the way I had to set it up to make the ride at least tolerable. I have now changed travel trailers and tried both hitches on the new one. The new travel trailer sits significantly higher and rides much better. I don't have the problem of the bars hitting the ground. The ride also seems much better then when I use the Equalizer. The final problem I have with this hitch is the that saddle that holds the chains seems to stick very frequently and requires that I release the pin and force it to release the chain with the provided wrench - resulting in frequent minor injuries. Not sure why this happens but I'm getting better at forcing the release with no injuries. Just irritating. 289769

I had the unfortunate experience with having your new airstream 20' taken out by a hydroplaning car last month. The airstream rolled right and on to its side, and the hitch released keeping our Suburban from rolling. The stabilizer bars and chains maintained the trailer connection and eased the stop with the rear tires of ground. The hitch bent the receiver on the truck, and the only damage appeared to be one " sprung" spring bar. A good result from a bad experience! 237404

The BEST Purchase I've made thus far!! Once I installed the new hitch system I can honestly say it made a 100% difference! I have a Mercedes ML500 and I pull a 17' Forest River Wildwood X-lite travel trailer. There is no more sag in the middle, both tow vehicle and trailer are level driving down the road and my SUV handles almost as if there is no trailer on the back! I HIGHLY Reccomend the "Blue Ox" System! It's the best! 513835

Comments

Still The BEST Purchase Ive made thus far for my trailer! Now that I have used it multiple times, I can say its a life saver in so many ways. My tow vehicle is stable on the road, breaking, maneuvering, the weight distribution has been key for me with a smaller set up and the Blue Ox continues to deliver. I Still HIGHLY Recommend the Blue Ox System to everyone!!

This hitch corrected my towing issues perfectly. I was ready to buy a new truck but as the tech advisor said, that won't correct your problem. He, Wayne, explained the problem was the hitch. He recommended the BXW2000 or BXW1500. I opted to purchase the BXW2000, overkill, but it works great. I've been on three trips with my 37' rv trailer with no issues. Also, I could have found the hitch cheaper elsewhere but the customer service at etrailer is excellent which is priceless. Thank you to Kaylyn R for all of your assistance and follow-up. I've installed the hitch but not yet used it. However, it's all that they say it is -- sturdy, easy to install and I expect that it will last me many years. I especially like the fact that the bars can easily be removed and that they are not greased as I also purchased a set of 1500 lb bars for use when the trailer is at max and will use these 750 lb bars when the trailer is empty or lightly loaded. 655943

Review from a similar Blue Ox SwayPro in Weight Distribution

This weight distribution system is a replacement for my original system which failed after 8 years of hauling a variety of travel trailers. I spent some time researching the type I wanted and the Blue Ox SwayPro was highly recommended by a fellow airstreamer. I was impressed with its simplicity and no additional sway control being required. The website is excellent, you just put in your vehicle details and the appropriate systems are displayed. The BXW 1506 is for 1500 lbs maximum tongue weight and comes with the eleven hole, 2” receiver hitch mount. I needed to mount with the long portion pointing down, this gave me about 4” of ground clearance. (Ideal for ripping permafrost but not state park campgrounds). The support from customer service was outstanding and the appropriate part BXW4001 was selected and shipped very quickly. The hitch was installed using the enclosed instructions and after viewing videos on the etrailer website. It looks good and seems to be doing what it is intended to do. I have a short camping trip in a few days so this will test the system. Thank you etrailer for your swift knowledgeable service. 613050

In the box are two 12 SWL 3300lbs quick link shackles. Not shown in parts or instructions. Do these have a purpose? Also the 12mm threads on the clamp-on rotating latches for the tightening bolts were painted, thus the bolts would not screw into the clamp. I had to use a tap to clean out the threads. I’m not very happy with my purchase. The weight distribution hitch I purchased does not fit on my trailer. There is a welded support bracket right where the hitch bracket is supposed to go 29 inches back on my trailer. Can the bracket go further back or does it need to go right above the chain? I’ve attached a photo of my issue. 579199

Yes this blue ox weight distribution system part # BXW1006 does require the brackets to be positioned 29 inches from the hitch ball. Since you have a support bar where the bracket does need to be positioned this weight distribution system will not work for your trailer. I recommend the equalizer system part # EQ37100ET
Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW
$657.95
. The sway control brackets on the equalizer system can be positioned 27 inches to 32 inches back from the coupler. It handles tongue weight from 700 to 900 pounds and will still allow for backing up. It also includes the 2 5/16 inch ball and shank.

Review from a similar Blue Ox SwayPro in Weight Distribution

I am not one to write reviews, but with an experience like this I am compelled to! I came for the quality American made products, and will continue to come back because of the EXCEPTIONAL customer service!!! The tech line ladies really know their stuff! I called three times to research what I wanted and all three were able to offer legitimate advise way past just reading a spec sheet. SO refreshing to be treated like a Valued customer. This is how to earn repeat business and some serious word of mouth advertising! 571341

Review from a similar Blue Ox SwayPro in Weight Distribution

I decided to give a SwayPro hitch a try when I purchased a new TT (37' TT). The previous two Equalizer hitchs (24' TT and 33' TT) I had owned worked fine, but I hated having to stop and get out to tighten/loosen the anti-sway device when having to maneuver around and they were noisy. I installed the SwayPro myself, it was very easy to do. The instructions are clear, and the online videos very helpful. I waited to make this review until after making a couple of trips with the trailer. The trailer is very locked in behind the vehicle and that sucking over as a large vehicle goes past was non-existent, was very surprised and happy. I expected a little of this since this trailer is taller and longer than my last ones. Love being able to remove the equalizer bars and store in the trailer compartment without worrying about getting grease everywhere. Super easy to get hooked up and ready to go. I spent a few dollars more getting the SwayPro. Every extra dollar was worth every penny, this is a great hitch design with many advantages, wish this had been my first equalizer type hitch. 567629

Review from a similar Blue Ox SwayPro in Weight Distribution

The unit is quite heavy and you need to make sure you have the space to mount the chain take-up brackets (the proper distance down the trailer arm), other than that the unit is fairly easy to use and stopped my 14 foot Sportsman Travel Trailer from swaying when traveling 70 mph. Before I added the anti-sway unit it was a scary proposition to travel over 60 mph. Felt a little like you were losing control of the trailer. Now, I feel more confident that all is well. The unit is well built and should last years. I would buy this product again. Also, etrailer (the company) was there for me when I had questions...nice people. 541440

This PROSWAY hitch awesome! Set up was easy and the towing experience was unbelievable. I would highly recommend this product. Also, George at e-trailer made sure that we had the hitch in time to pick up our new toy hauler! Thanks for such amazing service. This set-up is great for a lifted pickup. The BXW gave us the right amount of adjustment for our lifted Dodge 2500! 520938

  • Best Weight Distribution System for I-Beam Trailers with GTW up to 20,000 Lbs
  • In order to choose the correct weight distribution system, you will need to find the total tongue weight (TTW) of your towing setup by adding the tongue weight (TW) of both your loaded ready to tow trailer and any cargo stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. The average TW rating of a trailer is typically 10-15% of the gross trailer weight (GTW). An easy way to find this would involve using a tongue weight scale like the Sherline Trailer Tongue Weight Scale part # 5780. When...

  • Yes, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C15810 which is a fit for your 2008 Ford F-350 will allow you to tow your 2000 Holiday Rambler Aluma Lite 30SKS without the use of a weight distribution system assuming the figures you provided on the trailer are correct. This hitch has a 20,000 lbs gross trailer weight (GTW) and 2,700 lb tongue weight (TW) rating with a 2-1/2" receiver tube opening. According to the instructions for this hitch, the professional installation time is 30 minutes...

  • How to Determine Best Weight Distribution System
  • No, if you use a weight distribution system on your trailer that is rated higher than you need, your trailer will be bouncing. In order to choose the best weight distribution system you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. The tongue weight is typically between 10% and 15% of your trailer's GVWR but you'll want to verify...

  • Weight Distribution System for a 2006 Ford F-350 and 14,000 Pound Work and Play 34 WRS Trailer
  • A single sway control bar is only good for trailers up to 6,000 pounds and up to 25 foot, 11 inch long trailers so that is at least part of the problem you are having. But not to worry because it is a problem that is easily remedied with the proper weight distribution system. To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that...

  • Replacement U-Bolt for Blue Ox Weight Distribution Spring Bars
  • For a replacement U-bolt for the Blue Ox weight distribution systems we have the # BX201-0758. For new nuts you'd need the part # BX202-0090 and for washers # BX203-0003. It's not common for the U-bolt to wear out like this but if you are in a really dusty climate or any other type of area that would allow dirt/debris to easily get into that U-bolt and grind it down that might be the cause. You could try keeping the u-bolt as clean as possible to see if that helps.

  • Spring Bar Ground Clearance Estimate for Blue Ox Weight Distribution System
  • That's a hard number to give as there are variables that will change what that dimension will be like how tall the frame is, how much spring bar tension is needed etc. You fine tune the spring bar tension for the setup based on the tongue weight of the trailer/tow vehicle which affects the angle that the bars need to point at as well as how many links will be used. It could easily hang 6 inches below or even taller than that. In general though trunnion bar setups like this have better ground...

  • Blue Ox SwayPro Clamp-On Underslung Weight Distribution for a 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
  • All of the Blue Ox SwayPro weight distribution systems come with the shank. To add a 2-1/2 inch shank that will work with the SwayPro system I recommend # BXW4018. I do not recommend mixing weight distribution parts since they have not been tested together. Or you could use SwayPro system # BXW2003 which comes with the 2-1/2 inch shank and is rated for up to 2,000 pounds tongue weight. For a 2-5/16 inch ball I recommend # 63840. I have included some helpful links on weight distribution...

  • What Hitch Ball Does Blue Ox Weight Distribution System Use?
  • For the weight distribution hitches from Blue Ox that have a gross towing weight of 20,000 lbs, # BXW2000 and # BXW2003 you only need a hitch ball with either a 1" or 1-1/4" diameter shank. For a 2" hitch ball you can use # 63845 and for a 2-5/16" hitch ball you can use # 63847. To put it on the system, you only need to slide the ball into the hitch head and tighten it. If you go to 5:45 of the linked video review you can see exactly how to install the hitch ball.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System For a 2019 Airstream Classic 33FB
  • The weight distribution system I recommend for a 2019 Airstream Classic 33FB is the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System part # EQ90-00-1600 which is rated for up to 16,000 lbs. The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System will perform better than the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System part# BXW2000 and is more appropriately rated for the weight of your trailer. Please note, the Airstream Classic 33FB has an overslung coupler hence part # BXW2000 and not part # BXW2003. If you...
