Video Transcript for An In-Depth Look at the Taylor Made Marine Gas Strut for Boat Hatches-3691831

Today we're going to take a look at the Tailor Made 17" long steel gas shock. Now this gas shock is designed to replace a worn out or damaged shock on your dock box or boat hatch. This one's a nice coated and annealed steel rod, provides corrosion resistance. So it is perfect for high saltwater areas. This does easily install in minutes. There's no special tools required.

When you do install this, you do want this inner rod facing down and when is it also recommended to replace these gas shocks in pairs. The connection type on this as a 10 millimeter ball socket. The socket right here will snap right onto the 10 millimeter ball. And the way you go to install this, let me just zoom in a little bit to show you. If you look, this uses a retaining clip to hold it into place. So when you remove your old shock, you just take a small flat tip screwdriver, put it under that retaining clip, pry it up until it releases it, and then you can remove it from the ball.

And then with the new one, do the same thing. You just pry up this retaining clip, you don't remove it, just pry it up enough to release the pressure in here and then snap this onto your 10 millimeter ball and then push that retaining clip right back down, and it's secured into place. So it's pretty simple installation. The length on this is 17" and the length will always be measured from the center of this ball socket to the center of this one. So if we take our tape measure, center to center, there's your 17" length measurement, and the output force on this shock is 30 pounds.

But that should do it for the review on the Taylor Made 17" long steel gas shock.

  • Different Weight Ratings of 17 inch Long Boat Hatch Shocks
We have 17 inch boat hatch shocks with as little as 10 lbs of force like the part # 3691830-10 all the way up to 120 lbs of force with # 3691834-120. It really depends on the weight of your deck lid on your Nitro bass boat. I attached a link to a page that has all of the ones we carry as well. You'd want to determine how much one side of your deck weighs (how much you have to lift) and then go with best rated option.
