Getting your trailer balanced can make or break your towing experience. The Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch takes out all the guesswork with its built-in tongue weight scale and free companion app. Just hook up your trailer, check the scale to see if your tongue weight sits in the sweet spot of 10–15% of your gross towing weight, then enter a few details in the app. It gives you an exact distributed tongue weight to aim for—simply adjust the lead screw on the hitch head until the built-in scale shows that number. You’ll know you’re perfectly set up before you even hit the road.

Strong gusts or a passing semi can start pushing your trailer from side to side. This hitch uses 4 points of friction sway control at the spring-arm sockets and trailer brackets to help resist that movement as you tow. The spring arms continue distributing the load while those friction points help the trailer track more steadily behind your tow vehicle when conditions change.
Weigh Safe does not recommend backing with the spring arms attached, especially when you are dealing with a steep driveway, a sharp turn, or another significant change in grade. Never tow or back up with the spring arms attached if the angle between your tow vehicle and trailer centerlines exceeds 60 degrees. If you need to make a sharper turn while backing, disconnect the spring arms first. Exceeding that 60-degree limit can damage the hitch, cause system failure, and void the warranty.
The hitch’s high-strength steel construction is made to handle serious weight—up to 12,500 lbs gross towing weight and 1,250 lbs tongue weight. It includes a 2-5/16" stainless steel hitch ball that resists rust and stays smooth after years of use. The 2" shank offers up to an 8" drop or 8-1/2" rise with 1-1/4" incremental height adjustments, so you can dial in the perfect level match between your truck and trailer.
Hooking up doesn’t have to be a chore. The system’s layout makes it easy to attach the bars, check the scale, and make precise adjustments from one side. Once you’re set, the included hitch lock secures the shank to your vehicle so everything stays in place. With a total weight of about 116 lbs, it feels solid and confidence-inspiring from the first connection.

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look at this Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch. Now, this weight distribution system's shank is going to slide into your two-inch trailer hitch receiver and this system is going to give you a smooth, even and safe ride while towing. This is going to make balancing your load very easy, so you're not gonna have to worry about poor handling. This is going to help correct sway from passing semis and harsh winds with built-in tension and friction points. Now, this does have a tongue weight of 1,250 pounds at a maximum towing weight of 12,500 pounds.
This shank is going to give you a maximum drop in this orientation of eight inches, and then when you flip this into the rise position, you'll get a maximum rise of about 8 1/2 inches, and you'll get incremental height adjustment of 1 1/4 inches. Now, as you probably know, the most important thing that you can do to ensure a safe, smooth ride while towing is making sure that your tongue weight is evenly distributed, but getting things just right can be very difficult. Depending on your trailer and everything that you have loaded in your truck, you may not be able to adequately redistribute your weight on your own, so that's where a weight distribution system is going to come into play and be very helpful for you. Setting this up is gonna be pretty easy. You're going to hook your trailer up to the included stainless steel 2 5/16 inch hitch ball that's on the head of the system, and then you want to then take note of the weight on the built-in scale that you see right here to make sure that your tongue weight is in that sweet spot of 10% to 15% of your gross towing weight.
Then, you're gonna use the Companion App on your phone and that's gonna be a free download for you depending on the smartphone app store that you have, it's gonna be a free download, and you'll just answer a few questions and then wait for that app to give you an exact distributed tongue weight. And then you'll hook up the spring arms here so the system is fully in place, and this does come with this tool here to help you lift the bars into place. And then also on the other side here, this is going to allow you to adjust that lead screw on the hitch head here until the scale shows the distributed tongue weight that the app had you shoot for. So, again, the setup's gonna be very easy. And then the sway control bracketing positioning is going to be 27 inches to 32 inches back from the center of the coupler, and this does have a maximum trailer frame height of six inches, however, if your trailer is taller than that, trailer frame is taller than that and you need brackets for eight-inch-tall frames, on the bottom of that graphic there, I am including the part number for those eight-inch-tall brackets that will work with this system.
The pinhole diameter is 5/8 of an inch. Again, this is going to slide into your two-inch hitch receiver. This also includes a hitch lock here, which I think is a pretty good inclusion here. So, this is going to help secure your shank into your vehicle. It does come with two tube keys.
This is gonna be very easy to use, and the system in general is constructed of high-strength steel, so this is gonna be very durable. It's gonna hold up really well for you. This is V5 and J684-certified for safety. And I do wanna make a final note, some bulldog-style sleeve lock couplers may not work with this system because of the limited space between the hitch ball and the lead screw and the system head. There's approximately 2 1/2 inches between the screw and the center of the hitch ball, so just so you're aware of that. Instructions are also included to guide you through the easy installation and operation. But I think that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy, thank you for joining me.

The hitch is perfect for our camper. Installation was a breeze. I highly recommend weigh safe.
Customer service was amazing!!
Setup was quick and easy, VERY well built system. The washers they sent were not the proper grade so they split but etrailer QUICKLY replaced them as well as the brackets that were scratched while torquing. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase. I have a 2022 ram 2500 Cummins on 38s with a Carli 3.5 pintop soft suspension setup with king shocks and what a difference towing. I would say this system corrected 55% of my squat issue. Granted, the system is not designed to help with squat however it did! I did tow with the system and noticed a night and day difference in trailer performance. Shipping was fantastic and the box came intact and very well put together. I received my packaged the next day with free shipping. When I called to place the order, Tiffany was kind and polite and was VERY knowledgable on products. Thank you again!
Pretty easy setup, app is a little complicated but good. Was a big improvement from my last hitch
Rate based on early thoughts. Extremely well built with high, smooth tolerances. Instructions are well written. Haven't towed yet. Will next weekend.
The hitch is amazing. It’s like there’s nothing behind the truck except for the weight. Shipping was incredibly fast and arrived as if directly off the shelf. Etrailer is truly exceptional in customer service and Joanne K was exceptional. Thank you!
It makes pulling out Brinkley Z Air 315 (38Ft+) so much easier! I really like that backing up causes zero issues. Once I learned how to use the trailer tongue jack to relieve pressure during connecting, it made it so much easier.
App and set up guide were easy to follow. Got everything tuned in and ready to tow. Solid construction.
I’ve now used three different weight distribution hitches. While initial setup is a little bit more complex than the two I used previously, I was able to “dial it in” with the right settings the first time around versus trial and error. Once installed I towed an overloaded 16,000 pound trailer over 2,300 miles without any issues.
Manufacturer needs to either ship in 2 boxes or redesign/increase cardboard thickness. When I received the 1 box (UPS), it was almost split in half and full of packing tape to hold box together. I was missing the lifting bar and spring arms. Those 2 items weighed 54 lb themselves. etrailer was very responsive in getting me the replacement items from manufacturer since I was picking up a new trailer in a week. Website wouldn't allow me to upload pictures.
16 F250 towing 24' encl trailer. So far 1500 miles towing has been great. Nearly zero porpoising or sway. Set up seemed difficult from the videos and instructions but was actually a breeze. Was very quick and easy. W the f250 4x4 you probably only need 4" drop as the 6" is pretty low. Although my TT has a ton of clearance so you may need the rise w those as the 250 hitch only sits at 19" i also have a curt trutrack 4p which is very heavy to place on the receiver. The WS feels way lighter but maybe it's just the way its balanced. Also like that you can make adjustments easier w the WS vs the curt. The min torque on the WS is 150ft lb which everyone has a trq wrench for that, do yourself a favor and put more torque as it'll need it. Nothing w WS its just what happens w movement.
The instructions described the setup well. I can open my tailgate with this hitch!!! AWESOME!!!!! It's good to have peace of mind regarding whether the hitch is adequate for the tongue weight. I was surprised to see that I was 100lbs over what the rated tongue is listed as. My last hitch was inadequate...this one is perfect. Haven't towed with it yet, but I feel quite confident that it will safely handle the load.
The ball that was sold to me with the hitch would not work. Now, I got to send it back. I took a day off work to install and have it ready for a horse show this weekend. I spent over 1000 dollars and expected to receive the right parts. Not to mention, I used a vacation day to install for a horse show this weekend that now I can't go to.
Nice product. Extremely well made. Love the ability to adjust without disassembly like traditional any sway hitches that use shims. Use and setup is pretty simple.
This is my second WD hitch experience. Ease of setup and installation is better especially with the head unit. Not having to deal with spacers and washers makes this much easier. Bar installation, loading and unloading tension was a lot easier and didn't require the effort of last hitch. Adjusting for front wheelwell difference is a breeze making overall ride handling and ride quality super simple. This WD hitch is a definite "recommend". I'm long time etrailer.com customer and found this shipping experience to be even faster than transactions in the past. Way to go etrailer.com!
Still have some sway in high wind. Bars can be tough to lift up .
I just received the Weigh Safe Heavyweight distribution hitch. The one quite heavy as can be imagined package arrived in perfect condition. After unboxing the hitch, I’m impressed with the quality and workmanship. I can not report on the performance at this time, however the installation manual and user guide is quite clear to understand and follow. Also etrailer customer service is fantastic and I recommend purchasing anything through them as I’m a repeat customer.
Installed according to printed instructions and videos. Downloaded app and this thing will not keep my trailer from swaying. I was so hopeful but now regret I spent $1070 on this hitch and I can’t keep my trailer between the lines when there is any wind. I have only used the hitch once and now going to have to buy a different hitch.
This is the best weight distribution hitch. The instructions are very detailed plus the downloadable app makes it easy to dial in the proper weight distribution across the trailer and truck. After installing mine, both the camper and tow vehicle were perfectly level. The installation is a very doable DIY project.
The hardware and design look great. The issue is that it is dependent on a companion app. The app the manual says to download is incompatible with the current Android OS. The other available Weigh Safe app, won't take/use the "optional" weight distribution load ratings so that according to the app my F-150 with max tow package rated for 12000 lbs with 1220lb tongue wt rating when using a WDH. Weigh Safe customer support puts you on hold for 10 minutes and then punts you to voice mail. Hence the single star.
I should have bought this sooner. I had a recurve r6 it is not even comparable to Weigh Safe True tow. I have very little dolphin effect pulling a 11.400 lb bumper pull with a 2022 f350 dually.
Well, I ordered the 8" drop.
You sent a 12". WHY?
Now I will have a drop that is hanging down 4 extra inches closer to the ground.
And I am sure it will hit the ground when going in and out of some of the steeper parking lot entrances and driveways.
Can I get it replaced urgently?
I am scheduled to tow our trailer from Oregon to Colorado in 12 days.
Since I am guessing not, can I get it replaced after I have used it?
Because I have to have one.
And due to my schedule conflicts, I need to get this hooked up today.

I'm sorry that happened RJ. I'll get that straightened out for you!
Towed a 2026 Jayco trailer 7300gvw with a 2026 Chvy Silverado 1500 Z71 5.3. Estimated my combined weight truck +trailer and loads at 13500, TW was 850, followed instructions, installed hitch and used app. Set distributed TW to 2250 per the app. Towed 800 miles from NC to NY, on I81, no sway, proposing or other issues. Hitch is outstanding.
Steady as she goes, pulls our 24" 7500lb. travel trailer with ease, got the hang of it now with install, very happy with this purchase.
