An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

I'm very pleased with your product it works great with my set up I have a 2002 Ford f-150 crew cab with a 4 inch lift I pulled my 27' travel trailer the truck Harley squat down the ride was great I installed the fr1525hd and add 3 4" x 1inch spacers # a25723-90ah00 to make up lift difference and used a 3/8" x 6" bolt installation took about one hour thanks again pictures of driver side and passenger side

2003 Ford F-150

It took me a couple hours to put on my truck but everything fit good. I haven't pulled my camper yet but I will be able to in a couple of weeks. I also replaced the shocks on the truck so I'm expecting it to ride like a new vehicle .

My 1/2 ton Ford had what felt like excessive bumper drop when I attached my 19 Ft. trailer. A weight distributing hitch mostly took care of that, but I wasn't too happy with how much I had to load the torque bars. The Timbron bumpers helped quite a bit. They also really reduce squat and roll when hauling any load that's at the upper end of capacity. I'd call it very good results, especially for the relatively low price and ease of installation.
I had them on it 30 minutes, and most of that time was spent getting the old bumpers off

Paperwork suggested .5”-1.5” gap between timbren and axle. With the one 1” spacer supplied a .75” gap was what this truck ended giving. Photo is of factory bump stop on left and timbren bump stop on right. Great product so far.

Timbren rear suspension boots/springs went on easy once factory bumpers were removed. Have Vice Grips handy. Waiting to test my Ford F-150 crew cab with pop up camper.

TOTALLY AWESOME PRODUCT.....Though I wished I had them when we trailered the hot rod out to New Hampshire last month. We received this item late as it was on back order for far too long. I did get a chance though to put the levelers through their paces when using our 18' lo-boy to haul large limbs, branches and other brush to compost site. The truck did NOT flinch and inch downward as it did WITHOUT the levelers.

I liked too that the installation was basically pretty easy. I highly suggest going this way and leaving the air bags for the big truckers. Don't have to fuss with filling or deflating bags or dealing with leaky bags.

This is a presto zippo installation and you can play "immediately".

I couldnt be more happier with this product. Truck is still remaining relatively level, even with the hot rod in the enclosed trailer. Hot rod weighs in at 2200 pounds and nary a between truck and trailer. As in my earlier review, I HIGHLY recommend this product over air bags...so much LESS hassle .

I placed my order over the telephone. The customer service person was very nice and very helpful. Excellent customer service.
Received my timbren parts in a very timely manner. I installed the parts a couple of days ago. Easy to install. It feels more solid on the road and curves. I would have rated it five but haven't hooked my camper to it yet so I can't rate how it handles under a load but empty it handles better than before. Didn't change the quality of the ride. I will give another review after putting it under a load but I expect it to be a five.

It has been a year since I purchased timbren for my f150 Ford. I am completely satisfied. I have a 31 ft.pull camper. They level my camper just like I wanted them to. It also makes my truck more stable on the road loaded and unloaded. Very easy to install. I would definitely purchase again..

by:
1997FordF-150 and F-250 Light Duty

So far, so good! Took it for a test run and the truck with the camper on it was as even as if it had no load on it. The Timbren package was delivered on time and ready to install.

Oh boy!! Great product, just not right for my truck. F-150 Harley Davidson 2002. The bump stops rest on the axle pretty firm so maneuvering a curve in the rain leads to unintended drifting!! I have intended to reach out to George for assistance. I’m sure trimming the bumps a bit will fix my issue. They are great on my 04 Suburban. I have recommended them to many people that haul loads. Thanks

These jounce springs work as advertised. They were easy to install, and one year later, I have had no issues with them. I do wish that I had taken better measurements of the amount of spring that I needed to hold up the back end better, but I'm still part way through the learning curve on this. Still, a vast improvement over the factory snubbers.

by:
2001 Ford F-150

The Timbren springs bolted on perfectly to the existing frame holes. It is a great no maintenance enhancement to my truck when I have a load. I have about 1.25 inches of clearance between the axle and the spring. When the truck does not have a load it rides just as nice as it always did.

They're a simple thing, but they really make a significant difference when towing my trailer.

These have been great for towing and hauling by keeping the tail up a lot more level. Theyre definitely beneficial to the front steering and suspension components. I wont hesitate to put them on any other trucks I get.

The suspension add-ons work great, helps take the bounce out with heavy loads. Also don’t seem to be looking out the sky instead of road.
Thumbs up

by:

Tricky to install. Doesn’t really make much difference in the attitude or ride of the truck.

You mentioned that the springs have not made a difference in the ride of the truck. I wanted to ask you a few questions. Can you confirm that you have a 1998 Ford 150? How much of a gap is between the bottom of the Timbren spring and the axle? Is your truck lifted?

Eric

5/23/2022

Yes, it is a ‘98 f150. Truck is not lifted. There is something like 58 inch gap.

I actually do have more questions that I would like to ask to see what is happening with the springs. Do you drive often with the truck loaded? Are the springs making contact with the axle when the truck is loaded? Since it is an older truck - is the suspension in good working order?

  • Are There SumoSprings for a 2003 Ford F-150
I checked with SuperSprings, they do not offer SumoSprings for the 2003 Ford F-150. The most like replacement option we offer is the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TFR1525HD which is much more popular and provides greater support.

  • Spacing Between Frame and Axle for Timbren SES Kit for a 1997 Ford F-150
Timbren Kit part # TFR1525HD is an adjustable kit as it comes with a removable 1 inch spacer. I pulled one of these from our warehouse and the spacer in the kit measures 6 inches from the bottom of the frame to the end of the rubber spring, and without the spacer, it measures 5 inches. I would first install the kit with the spacer in and you should have about .8 inches of space left. If you find that the ride is rough on normal roads, remove the spacer and you should have plenty of space...

  • Ideas for Removing Difficult Rear Bump Stops on a 2002 Ford F-150
Any time I am having problems removing difficult suspension components I usually apply liberal amounts of lubricant, such as LubriMagic Green Series Biobased Spray Lubricant, let it soak in for a minute and then try again. If possible try using a cheater bar to give you more leverage, which would give you additional torque to remove the old bump stops. If you are not sure what a cheater bar, it is typically a long pipe that will fit over your wrench or ratchet that will give you more...

  • 2003 Ford F-150 Timbren Suspension System Comparisons
Usually when people use the Timbren suspension kits they talk about how great the kits work out for hauling loads or towing but a common complaint is how rough they make the unloaded ride feel so I would go with the 6K # TFR1525HD over the 7K # TFRTT1525 for your 2003 Ford F-150. With that being said, it is important to note that any suspension enhancement, whether it's the Timbrens or another solution, will not increase the weight capacity of your vehicle and is designed to help support...

  • Differences between Timbren Front Suspension Kits for 2002 Ford F-150
The difference between the two kits is the amount of suspension support either provides. Both the part # TFRTT1525 and # TFR1525HD are a confirmed fit for your 2002 Ford F-150 but the part # TFR1525HD has the lighter capacity for and the part # TFRTT1525 has the higher capacity. This kit is intended for severe duty vehicles like tow trucks so for your application the # TFR1525HD would be a better choice. It won't be quite as harsh feeling.

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement for 1999 Ford F-150 with B&W Gooseneck Hitch
I do have an option for you, however as you were finding out there is not a rear air bag kit available that will be compatible with frame brackets from a gooseneck hitch on your 1999 Ford F-150. Because of this your best option for rear suspension enhancement is with a jounce style spring that will replace the factory bump stop such as the excellent Timbren # TFR1525HD. These 6,000 pound capacity springs will do a great job of adding support to the truck's suspension while keeping everything...

  • How Much Can a 2003 Ford F-150 SuperCrew 4x4 with the 5.4 Engine and 3.73 Gears Tow
According to the owner's manual for your 2003 Ford F-150, the towing capacity for a SuperCrew model with the 5.4 engine, 4x4 drive train, and 3.73 gear ratio is 8,200 lbs. This is listed on page 168 if you would like to take a look for your self. If your F-150 came with the towing package then you most likely already have a trailer hitch and wiring but you might not have a brake controller and suspension enhancements which you will need for a trailer over 5,000 lbs most likely. The RoadActive Suspension # RAS4612 hasn't been tested on your 2000 Ford F-150 with added leafs to the rear suspension. There's a chance it might work, but there's also a large chance you'd have to remove the added leafs to be able to install this. • Can a Weight Distribution System be used with a 2016 Grey Wolf Ice House to Reduce Vehicle Sag
Thanks for your picture, it really helped me answer your question. I would recommend you get a suspension enhancement system for your truck to help with the sag, because the 2016 Grey Wolf will not be able to use a weight distribution system due to its tongue design. There are two types of suspension enhancements I would recommend for your 99 F-150. The first is the Timbren # TFR1525HD.
