Cold mornings don't have to mean sluggish starts and long idles. This custom fit block heater warms the coolant so your engine fires up smooth and reaches operating temperature quicker. Hit the road faster knowing your engine is ready to work.
Your Duramax engine might have a trailer to pull, equipment to haul, or a long drive ahead, even when the temperature drops well below freezing. Starting a cold diesel engine can put extra strain on the starter and engine components. This 1,000-watt Zerostart heater warms coolant inside the engine block before you turn the key, giving your engine a warmer start and helping it reach operating temperature sooner. It's a practical way to prepare your truck or van for winter mornings when staying home isn't an option.
This heater fits a designated 40 mm freeze-plug opening on compatible 6.6L Duramax diesel engines. It uses a brass adapter with an O-ring seal and a locking screw to secure it inside the engine block. Unlike a threaded heater, it doesn't screw into the opening, and it isn't a dry cartridge heater. The manufacturer identifies the right-front engine-block location for the listed Duramax applications, with the heating element pointing toward the 12 o'clock position. Check your vehicle's fit information and the 2026 Zerostart catalog linked below to confirm the correct installation location and orientation for your engine.
Installation requires draining the coolant and removing the specified freeze plug. Clean the opening thoroughly, removing any burrs, paint, or rough spots that could damage the O-ring. Lubricate the seal and core-hole surface with an approved lubricant, then push the heater firmly into place before tightening the locking screw to 2.26 to 2.82 Nm (1.67 to 2.08 ft-lbs). Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions linked below, then refill the cooling system, check for leaks, and remove trapped air before plugging in the heater.
The removable 5' silicone cord can be routed toward the front grille or another accessible spot, where you can plug in before the engine needs to start. Keep it secured away from hot surfaces, sharp edges, and moving parts, leaving enough slack for engine movement. The cord detaches from the heating element, so you won't need to replace the whole heater if the cord becomes damaged. The Zerostart replacement power cord (ZE59SR) is available separately.
Zerostart is a Phillips & Temro brand. You might recognize Phillips & Temro from original-equipment engine-heating applications even if the Zerostart name is unfamiliar. The company develops heaters for specific engines and supplies both factory and aftermarket applications. That experience is worth knowing about when you're choosing something that needs to fit your Duramax engine and work through many cold-weather starts.
Use a 50/50 mixture of ethylene glycol antifreeze and water. Never use straight antifreeze or a mixture containing more than 65% antifreeze, as this can shorten the heating element's life. Avoid stop-leak additives. Lubricate the O-ring and cleaned core-plug opening with antifreeze, liquid soap, or silicone grease. Never use petroleum-based lubricants, which can damage the O-ring and cause leaks. Press the heater into place before tightening the locking screw to 2.26 to 2.82 Nm (1.67 to 2.08 ft-lbs). Overtightening can damage the threads or compromise the seal.
Never plug in the heater before installation just to see if it works. Without coolant surrounding the heating element, it can quickly overheat and cause serious burns. Instead, disconnect the heater from power and use a multimeter to check resistance across its electrical pins. The manufacturer's general testing guidance specifies a reading between 5 and 100 ohms.
Always make sure the heating element is completely submerged in coolant and any trapped air has been removed before plugging it in. Unplug the heater before starting your engine. Running the engine while the heater is plugged in can create an air pocket around the element, causing it to overheat and fail prematurely.
When disconnecting the heater from your extension cord, firmly grasp each plug and pull them apart. Never yank on the cords themselves. This can damage the connections, potentially causing the heater to malfunction or creating an electrical short.

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a quick look at the Zerostart custom fit engine heater with brass adapter. Now, this has been designed to fit your 2024 and newer Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, both the 2500 and 3500 models that have been equipped with the 6.6 liter V8 turbo-diesel engine. On custom fit parts such as this heater, I do recommend taking advantage of our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer.com. Just input the year, make, and model of your vehicle and answer any other questions it might have for you.
And our fit guide will confirm if this will work for you or if we have something comparable that will work for you. So cold mornings don't have to mean slow starts and long idles for you. With this custom fit Zerostart block heater, you're gonna be able to get your diesel fired up fast and ready to roll no matter how low the temperature drops. This is going to pre-warm your engine's coolant, so everything's gonna run smoother and reach optimal temperature quicker, letting you hit the road faster and with confidence that your engine is protected. So some reasons why you're really gonna like this, you're gonna get reliable cold starts.
You're gonna be able to say goodbye to sluggish cranks and stubborn starts. This heater pre-warms your engine, so it fires right up even on those freezing mornings. It's gonna help protect your vehicle by reducing the strain of cold, dry starts. It's gonna prevent unnecessary wear and tear on your engine. And this is also going to give you a steady 1000 watt at 120 volts of power to keep your coolant warm and ready.
The power cord is detachable. This is a tough five foot long silicone cord, so it's gonna be able to stand up to heavy duty use, but you can remove it in case the cord gets damaged somehow and replace that cord, so you don't have to replace the entire heater, which is a nice touch. I did wanna point out too, I don't see this on other manufacturer's engine block heaters, but this does have a tethered plug protector there to protect those prongs when this is not plugged in. So that's a nice touch and this cover will help this heater last longer for you as well. Now, if you happen to have any other questions about this heater or any other products that we carry here at etrailer.com, don't hesitate to reach out to us because ultimately we wanna make sure that you're getting exactly what you want and need.
Well again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
