You will enjoy how much the sleek look of UWS's Low Profile Series complements the latest designs of today's trucks. The toolbox sits just 2" above the truck bed rails instead of the standard 4," providing a better view out the back window for maneuvering or keeping an eye on your load. The insulated, beveled, single lid opens fully to 90 degrees with the help of two super-duty lift cylinders, which raise the lid and hold it open as you load and unload your gear. Smaller items and tools can be stored conveniently on the divided, sliding tray, ensuring they are readily available for use.

Today, we're going to review part number UWS00378. This is the UWS Truck Bed Toolbox. This is the crossover style single and it is the low-profile series style. This crossover saddle style toolbox will hang from your truck bed rails right behind the cab. It is a low profiled design which will make it easier for you to see out the rear window. This toolbox is built of an aluminum construction with fully welded seams which are guaranteed not to rust.
They do use the heavy duty stainless steel paddle latches, one on each side, and there's a stainless steel lock on the driver's side. This toolbox is finished with a black powder coat finish which is your best base finish if you're going to paint the toolbox to match the color of your truck. On the inside, there is a connecting rod enclosure, and what that is is when you pull up on these paddle handles, as you can see it operates both handles and that's because there's a connecting rod connecting them. Well, they have an enclosure that will cover this connecting rod, and what's nice about that is it will keep anything that's rolling around inside your toolbox from hitting up against that connecting rod and bending it or damaging it. If that had happened, you wouldnt be able to open or close your lid so they have a nice enclosure that protects that connecting rod.
It does have a beveled lid so there are no sharp edges on it. The lid is a patented fully foamed lid which will create a rigid wall between the outer aluminum layers to help prevent bending or warping. It is a structural foam which will reinforce the shape and the strength of the lid. One the inside, there is a foam gasket on the length and the width all the way around and this gasket will help prevent dust or any of the outside elements from getting to the inside of your toolbox. On each end, there is a heavy duty gas cylinder which will help you lift the lid.
As you can see, as you pull up on it, it will actually pull it up the rest of the way, and it does hold it open in a full 90 degrees. Also, the whole full length of the lid, there is a piano hinge which will run the full length and that will help when you push your lid to close it and open it. It will keep it level on even. On the inside, there is a divided three-compartment sliding tray. It also comes with the J hook or J bull installation hardware which allows it to install onto your truck bed.
This part is made in the USA. Also on the inside, there are integrated tool trays, one on the end here and one on the end down there. Then also right on here in the side, they do have a built-in screwdriver holder and it adds extra strength and rigidity to the box. Basically, they're right here. It's probably hard to see it because it's black, but there are also holes drilled in there where we can just insert the screwdriver and to hold the screwdrivers in place. I do want to give you a few dimensions on this toolbox. The overall length, 63 inches, and the overall width is 19-1/4 inches. The height is 13-1/2 inches. Now, if you do want those dimensions with the lid closed, all you would have to do is just add an inch to all those dimensions if you need clearance where the lid closed. The inside has a 6.9 cubic feet of usable space and, again, the whole toolbox is constructed of a 0.063 aluminum tread plate. Because it's low profile, you can see where it sits on the bed rails. It only sits 2 inches above the truck bed rails. I just want to show you with it closed. You pull up on the paddle handle that will open it up. If you close it, turn the key a quarter of a turn. That will lock the handle and it keeps anybody from getting inside. Turn it to open it and it will allow you to open it up. That should do it for our review on part number UWS00378.

Other than the weather stripping falling off the lid, the box still looks and works like new. The lid opens and shuts with ease and the locking mechanism still functions perfectly.

Toolbox is still holding strong, even after a snowy Idaho winter. I would recommend to upgrade the seal as I did find some snow on the inside from the windsnow in Idaho.

I have owned this UWS took box for over a year now hard to believe it has been that long. The tool box is holding up good no problems just tightened the j-hooks was all I drive on bumpy roads here in Idaho so it handles the snow rain and dust nothing gets inside its dry as a bone. I can even stand on toolbox if I need to its that sturdy. This fits my 2002 Ford Ranger Stepside even though it says doesnt fit my bed is not as wide as normal rangers they need to change that in will this item fit your truck yes it does. The paint is holding up and the locking mechanism no problems there. People notice it but when they here the price they buy cheaper tool boxes but in my opinion you get what you pay for. I give this box 5 stars for durability and quality you will not be disappointed if you purchase a UWS toolbox.
