You will enjoy how much the sleek look of UWS's Low Profile Series complements the latest designs of today's trucks. The toolbox sits just 3" above the truck bed rails instead of the standard 4," providing a better view out the back window for maneuvering or keeping an eye on your load. The insulated, beveled, single lid opens fully to 90 degrees with the help of two super-duty lift cylinders, which raise the lid and hold it open as you load and unload your gear. Smaller items and tools can be stored conveniently on the divided, sliding tray, ensuring they are readily available for use.

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna be checking out this UWS crossover, low profile toolbox. Let's go over what the different styles are. So I said low profile. It means it's not gonna stick up very high from our bed rails, which means if you look back here, I know the back window is kind of tinted, the whole toolbox, it'll be sitting under the headrest. So they're not gonna be in the way of your view when you're looking out the back window.
Now, I also said that it was crossover style which means it crosses over on the bed rails and it has that gap at the bottom, which means that you can still put more gear in the bed of your truck so you don't sacrifice the whole bed of the truck just for getting a toolbox. You see, we got our ladder in here as well. We can still shut the tailgate too, if we wanted to. And that, I just like that version of these better just because you can still store things, which is pretty useful. Looking at the latches here, they're gonna be stainless steel.
Now, you pull one from either side and it'll pop open the lid. So that's nice, it opens from both sides. Only one latch lock though. That's the driver's side one. Has a key and a lock for that, but it opens up and the lid pops up pretty easily on its own.
The gas struts push it up. I'll push up again without grabbing the lid. You see Pops right up which is great for having a handful of tools, you can dump them in there without having to lift the lid up or hold that up and then put the tools in. Look at up here, at the backside of the latches, just want to show you. Just me pulling on the passenger side here.
You can see how they work in unison, both open up when you pull on that tab. Another thing that's good is it's got the shield that protects the rod down here. So then if I threw something heavy in this toolbox and was to hit it, it would be protected by that shield. So you wouldn't have to worry about bending that rod and breaking that connection so they wouldn't work at the same time. We're going in the inside room, 8.4 cubic feet of space. Now to give you a better idea we threw some containers in here, and some random tools to show you maybe a better idea of what you wanna throw in here and what's gonna fit where. You got a nice tray that's plastic that slides along back and forth and that's gonna help you organize some stuff that maybe you use more regularly and you need easy access to instead reaching down into the box to grab it. It's gonna be right here, easy to grab. And the cool thing is, it slides either side. So if you need it on the passenger side one day or you're more, working more on the driver's side, you can slide it right over. On either side of the toolbox, there's gonna be screwdriver holders, which is good because it's gonna be easy access. If you need to grab one of them, you can just reach in. Again, you don't have to reach in here to grab it, or even to the tray, whatever side that's on, you're gonna organize them on the sides. One thing I will point out though, is they are right in line with the strut here. So make sure you don't put in any towards the back of the toolbox or make sure they're shorter. Because when you bring this lid down, it might make contact and you don't wanna bend out one of those struts and break the lid. Now you can't really see it from here, but we'll do a different angle so you can see what I'm talking about. That's without it in place. Now move it in place, and you're gonna see that strut hit the screwdriver. About there it'd make contact. And if you tried to force it, it would break that strut. So you just wanna be careful of that. You just move the screwdriver over a little bit. It's out of the way. Something to point out though, if you we're to close this and bend the strut out with the screwdriver, you can replace it. We have struts online. You measure from the center of the eyelet here to down here, which is 10 inches. And then it's gonna look at the force pounds on the strut itself. They usually label there, which this one's like 45. So make sure you get the matching one and then you can replace that strut. So that's awesome that you don't have to get a whole new toolbox or just try and struggle with a lid that's not gonna work, you can replace those parts if an accident does happen. Staying with the lid, we've got a striker up here. This can also be adjusted if you loosen both of these, move this side to side, that way it closes like it should every single time, you know It might wear out the more times you slam the lid as you own it longer. I like that those little adjustments can be made though just to make it like new again. Sticking with the lid, we got the foam weather seal that goes all around the edges. It's also injected with foam on the inside, so it's not just a hollow lid. So if you we're throw something heavy up on top, you wouldn't have the risk of it smashing in on itself. It does have some structure with that foam in there which helps it keep it shape. Another thing about the lid is when you go to close it, I like that this hangs over the lip here. So it doesn't just stop at the top, you can push it down and it goes quite a bit down. As you see, gonna keep the elements from going up and in. Also mounts in really easily, drop a J hook down through this slot, add a washer and a nut, and this J hook's gonna push up as you tighten it on the bottom of the bed rail and hold the whole box in place. And you're gonna do that on each side. With the lid popped open, so I'm gonna show you how much space there is in between the lid and the cab of the truck, and you see there's plenty there. Now, it does kind of widen here at the top, but if I go just to the middle, looks like it's about four inches of space. So you don't have to worry about the lid hitting the cab at all. The whole box, they're a black powder coated aluminum with a diamond pattern on top, which I like better than the shiny glossy boxes. This one's a matte black, which is gonna be good, because then the scratches and dents aren't gonna stick out as easily as they would on the others. Let's get some measurements for the box too. So it's gonna be 70 inches from side to side. Gonna be 14 and a half inches from front to back. And then deep, it's gonna be 20 inches from top to bottom. A couple other measurements to think about would be the box sits up three inches from the bed rail, and then the clearance you have down here. Now, every truck's gonna be a little bit different in the bed, but on this one we have about eight inches of clearance to fit this ladder in place. Overall, I think it's a great addition to your truck. I like that it doesn't take up the entire bed. Can still fit those longer loads here in the bottom, if I need to, doesn't sacrifice all my space. But it also gives me somewhere to put all the tools, keep them organized, and just keep them all together that way they're not sprawled out in the bed either. Now some things to think about is, I've had friends that are in construction and they say they like the weather guard buttons on the side a little bit better than the latches. They're kind of disappointed by latches, which, not hard to pull or anything, the lid pops right open, but they like the ability to be able to elbow the button with their arms full of tools and drop those in. That is a feature that's not on this one. But I think the latches work just fine. Otherwise, it keeps it organized. The lid pops up every time like it was supposed to. So I really like that part. And like I said, if you we're to damage one of the struts, you can fix that. Or if it just not latching like it's supposed to you can adjust that too. So this is something I'd like to invest in and I want to know that it's gonna last with me. So I know replacing those parts is gonna keep it going for a very long time. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out. I hope this helps..

After 2 weeks I finally got my toolbox this is good for a 2001 Ford ranger stepside it doesn't say it would fit but I measured it before I bought it had one little ding in the corner but I touched it up with spray paint overall it's an excellent toolbox and it fit perfectly this is originally for a Chevy S10 but I measured it and it fits good I would recommend this to anyone who owns a Ford ranger stepside! Check out the pictures you can see how well it fits! It is hard to find a toolbox that fits a Ford ranger stepside I used to work in the Marine Corps parts department in the motor pool so I know how to measure parts at first they said this wouldn't fit my truck but I told them I measured it!

I've had bed box for almost a year now. So far so good. The finish looks as good as the day I installed the box, which by the way was a snap to install. I'm very happy with this product and glad I didn't go for one of the less expensive products like a few of my buddies did. Most of them have constant problems with their bed boxes. IE: hinges freezing up latch problems and most of all the finishes that aren't holding up.

When I purchased the toolbox I forgot to mention that I have a bed liner in my vehicle. Therefore I had to put a 3/4 inch spacer on the top bed rails so the bottom of the toolbox would clear the bed liner over the wheel wells and fuel tank spout. Other then that I really have enjoyed the toolbox and have gotten many compliments as well.

Been happy with my purchase. I gave it 4/5 stars because it arrived with a dent on the lid that I was able to remove with a rubber mallet and a 2x4. The metal inside reflects poor workmanship. There are some sharp edges near the latch mechanism that I discovered firsthand after reaching in there. Aside from those issues it has functioned well and I find the dual lid release latches are convenient.

The tool box works great. Works for what we needed and is low profile.

The truck box is a good looking truck box but that’s about all the good I can say about it. The striker for the latch continuously came loose causing the lid not to latch completely and the top to come open going down the road. I fixed this by putting loctite on the nuts holding the striker in place. The gaskets along the lid have completely turned loose and are no longer there. The keys never worked from the first day. Overall not very satisfied with the quality of the box for the price.

I've had this tool box for about a year. Its held up well without issue. This replaced a 9 year old tool box from Lowes that cracked at the bed support. So far so good on this one. The locking and opening mechanism works great and is covered so things dont bind it up. The only strange thing is that after a windy snow storm there was snow inside the tool box and I hadn't driven anywhere.
