Dimensions

Stacked-plate heat exchangers have long been considered the most effective type of oil or transmission coolers, primarily because of their increased surface area. Allowing fluid to spread out over this larger surface area decreases the time required for heat transfer to take place. As a result, plate coolers typically manage to cool a greater volume of fluid faster than tube-and-fin, or even plate-and-fin, varieties. Add to that a powerful tornado fan that ensures optimum airflow at all times, no matter the environment, and you have a super-efficient heat exchange unit.

Awesome product! Received it yesterday. Custom fabricated brackets for it to mount below my auxiliary trans cooler on my 07 fx4 f150. Installed the on off switch on out side of transmission and the fan works great!

Awesome remote transmission oil cooler. Attached at the rear under belly of a Toyota FJ Cruiser, 2007.

by:
2010 Toyota Highlander

excellent quality product, I have intalled the fan/cooler on a toyota highlander 2010 without tow package not infront of the a/c radiator but exactly at the same place as toyota install the oem transmission cooler just behind the right fog light. I have a travel trailer of 3300 lbs dry, (4000lbs gross weight) and before my transmission temperature was around 215-220 F with a standard transmission cooler(without a fan) infront of the a/c radiator, but now with my new derale fan cooler, its around 180F after a long climb. I am totally satisfied. I had to build a bracket to fit the cooler in this tiny space behind the fog light, it took me 6-7 hours .

by:

Mounted between fuel tank and transfer case. Larger 6.0 cooler would go in front of intercooler. Dont need anymore heat there. This was cheaper and works great in this position. Wrapped exhaust near the lines as they have to dump out on right side of trans. and I did not want any hard 90 degree turns with all this extra plumbing. Keeps temps way lower. Also installed oversize/cooler pan.
FYI using temp sensors in pan and in valve body. Pan is regularly 30 degrees cooler than valve body.

by:

Easy install, and works as specified. Would put on future high performance vehicles

by:

Have not installed it yet, but looks impressive! This this is like a beast cooler. Will be installing it this week before a long distance rv trip.

Nice product

Great product and prices really awesome service

by:

I was very impressed on quality and ruggedness. Its heavy and works great. This is a must in South Texas especially pulling a trail.

by:

Love my engine oil cooler. I was having overheating problems with my Dodge truck while towing on a hot day. I asked the guys at etrailer if I should add a bigger radiator, and engine oil cooler or another tranny cooler. They nailed it when they recommended a supplemental engine oil cooler. I now can town my fifth wheel RV trailer on the hottest days and in the mountains without overheating. I do still have to watch the temps and if they start to get over 260 f or so I downshift a gear or two to get greater fluid flows. The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is that with the supplied hose clamps I was plagued with constant slow leaks. I finally bought a much higher end hose Clamp which did solve the problem.

by:

I was surprised at the lack of feedback on these products, and the differences in opinions. I tow a fare amount, between 7000lbs and 9500lbs. My vehicle is a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 8 speed transmission. ( outside temperature 20-30 deg Celsius ). Before I installed this engine cooler my temperature ran around 115 deg Celsius on a flat pull and 130 - 135 deg Celsius on most hills. After a hill it took a long time to drop in temperature, most time it hardly dropped. Now I rarely see 115 deg Celsius on a hill, and recovers to 100 deg Celsius very quickly. So in short I'm very happy with this product. I would recommend it to anyone that Tows.

by:

Excellent product, quality parts and fittings for multiple installation platforms. Took about 4 hours to install but was a custom install under bed of truck.

by:

Appears to be well-built and wasn't too hard to plumb in series with the existing oil cooler. Unfortunately with my 2010 Suburban it did not make any difference in the oil sump temperature shown by the computer - either daily driving or while towing. I plan on borrowing a laser thermometer to see what the actual input/output temps are.

by:

Great product. Keeps transmission oil cool. Happy with my purchase

by:

Arrived today. need to find time to install. Looks great. box was untaped but I think everything is here. It looks like a quality product. Excellent so far!

by:

Easy install very high quality product.

  • Will Derale Remote Mount Transmission Cooler # D13960 Fit 2012 Chevy Suburban
While we don't have specific fit info for the Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler # D13960 that you referenced the dimensions of this cooler would pretty easily fit the available space you have. This cooler measures 13" Wide x 10" tall x 5-5/8" deep but what's really great is that even if for some reason it didn't fit there since this has a fan on it you could really install it about anywhere and the fan would pull enough air to make it efficient still.

  • Fitting Adapter Needed to Install Remote Derale Transmission Cooler in 2004 Chevy Silverado
The correct fitting for installing a Derale transmission cooler in your 2004 Chevy Silverado is the part # D13018 to install the Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler # D13960. This cooler has a thermostat as well. You would want to route this from your current radiator's transmission cooler so that it goes through the factory cooler and then finally to this cooler. That is what the fitting allows you to easily do.

  • Can You Run Larger Cooler Lines Into Smaller Openings?
Generally speaking, you won't want to run a larger line into a smaller opening with an adapter because the difference will create a buildup of pressure that will likely cause the line to burst, but running a smaller inlet into a larger port is possible. I checked with Derale and they mentioned that running a smaller line into a larger port just means that not as much fluid is going to be pushed into the cooler and it will run less efficiently, but it won't damage the cooler. Derale does...

  • Best Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2012 Chevy Suburban
One really efficient and larger transmission cooler would be all that you'd need. In theory, the more the better but in reality one really good one would be all that you'd need. The Derale Hyper Cool part # D13960 is a stacked plate style of cooler with a built in fan which would be more than adequate. The stacked plate coolers are by far the most efficient and the fan ensures that you'd always have enough airflow to cool the fluid. It also allows you to mount basically anywhere as it...

  • Transmission Cooler for 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
It's definitely not abnormal for your transmission fluid to heat up while towing, especially when you're going up hills that force the truck to work a lot harder. To help with this adding a transmission cooler like you mentioned is a great idea. For your 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD I highly recommend the Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit w/ Fan # D13960. This cooler will do a great job of improving the performance and function of your transmission with its reversible tornado...

There are different that fittings you will need for your 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.0L engine than the ones you mentioned in order to install the Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit # D13960. Your '02 Grand Cherokee should have a 3/8" rubber hose (though I do recommend verifying this), so what you will need instead is the Derale Radiator Adapter Fittings for Dodge and Jeep # D13028.

It would be best to use a transmission cooler as a supplemental cooler to the factory transmission cooler. For your 2013 Sierra 1500, I recommend mounting the Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit w/ Fan, -6 AN Inlets - Class V, # D13960, using your second option. I'd leave the stock cooler alone and mount the Derale cooler with fan in front of the passenger wheel well. • Transmission Cooler with Fan Recommendation for a 1997 GMC RV with a 4L80E Transmission
I would go with the Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit w/ Fan # D13960 since this one comes with all of the installation hardware and lines unlike the # D13870 that you referenced. The cooler on this setup is a stacked plate design which is the most efficient style on the market and the fan will flow 500 cfm of air through the cooler to keep the temperatures down. • Comparing a Remote Mount and Standard Transmission Cooler
The Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit w/ Fan part # D13960 would absolutely provide greater cooler power than the Derale 25-Row High-Performance Stacked-Plate Cooler part # D52508. The reason for this is because the fan provides constant airflow which in turn translates to more cooling whereas with the standard cooler you would be subjected to the mobility of the vehicle for cooling power. • Tip for Where to Mount Derale Remote Transmission Cooler 2004 Ford Explorer
We don't have any pictures or videos we can show you to help put the Derale transmission cooler part # D13960 in your vehicle but the great thing about this kit is that since it comes with a fan you don't have to put it somewhere that gets access to air flow. If there's a tighter area that it could fit it would work fine there since it provides it's own air flow.

A large cooler like # D13105 that you have referenced would be a good choice. You may also need to add fitting # D13025 so you will not have to cut and flare lines. But I think you would benefit more from a remote cooler that has its own fan like # D13960.
