Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2017 Honda Odyssey - Curt

Today on our 2017 Honda Odyssey we'll be having a look at and installing the CURT Class 3 trailer hitch receiver, part number C13068. Here's what our hitch looks like installed. As you'll see, our hitch tucks up nice and tight up against the bottom of our fascia to help give us the maximum amount of ground clearance that we can get. Welded onto the bottom of our frame of the hitch and the receiver tube itself, you'll see our safety chain plate here, which is has a decent size opening so we shouldn't have much problem, if any, hooking on most safety chains from our trailer onto the hitch. On the side of our receiver you'll find our industry-standard 5/8" diameter hitch pin hole to secure any of our hitch-mounted accessories. On the end of our receiver here we have this nice beveled collar that's welded on to help give it a more finished and factory-like appearance. This hitch features a 350 pound max tongue weight rating, which is the amount forcing down, a 3,500 pound max gross trailer weight rating, which is the amount it can pull.

It does support the use of weight distribution. When you have that set up on your trailer, you have a 500 pound max tongue weight rating and a 5,000 pound max gross trailer weight rating. You'll want to consultant with the owner's manual of your Odyssey and not exceed what the vehicle is rated for or the hitch itself. You don't want to cause damage to either one. Now what I really like about this hitch is the fact that it sits up so high against the fascia, it's very well hidden underneath the vehicle and it doesn't looks like it's going to be causing much of a issue as far as ground clearance goes where pulling in and out of steep driveways. We shouldn't have to worry about the end of the receiver dragging the ground. Now for a few measurements to better assist you in choosing any hitch-mounted accessory you may need, such as a ball mount, bike rack, or a cargo carrier.

You're looking at about 13" from the ground to the top of the receiver opening and about 6" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the rearmost part of the back bumper. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get it installed. To begin our install we'll need to remove our driver side panel here. We have three plastic push pin fasteners to remove. Right here, next to where the subframe comes up, we have a 10mm bolt. Then right here we have a Phillips screw that we need to remove.

Now to remove these three plastic push pin fasteners we'll use a flat head screwdriver, come in, pull it out on the center part. Use a trim panel tool, if you have one, to go underneath the big section. Push down and it will pull out. All of our fasteners are exactly the same. With our screw, our bolt, and the three fasteners removed, we can grab the panel and pull it on out.

We'll set it aside. Now right by our tailpipe we have an exhaust hanger right here. We'll spray some lubricant on it. Then we have a second exhaust hanger over here to the side. Spray that one as well too. Then we'll use a pry bar to pry off our exhaust hanger. That will give us enough room to get our hitch into position now. Now we'll spray some lubricant in our weld nuts. We'll use a wire brush which we have available on the website as part number 814092, and run it in and out a couple times. The will help remove any dirt, debris, or rust which may be inside of our threads. We'll make sure we'll do this for all of our attachment points. Now that we have our weld nuts cleaned out, we'll point out the ones that we're going to use. On our passenger side we'll be using the two rearmost weld nuts. On the driver side we're still using those two rearmost weld nuts on the frame rail. Additionally, we're going to use this hole here. We'll stick our pull wire into that hole and it will come out this larger access hole just in front of it. We'll place our spacer block onto the wire, insert it into the hole, thread on our carriage bolt onto the pull wire, and we'll pull it on up and down through that hole and remove our pull wire at this time. Now we'll take our bolt, place on a conical tooth washer. The teeth will face away from the bolt head and it will face up towards the hitch and thread into these holes. Now we'll grab an extra set of hands, raise the hitch on up into position, and secure it with the provided hardware. We'll slide our hitch on up over our exhaust. For our carriage bolt we'll use our nut. We'll use a 19mm socket to tighten our bolts and an 11/16 socket to tighten the nut for our carriage bolt. Now we'll torque our hardware to the amount specified in the instructions. Now we'll reinstall our exhaust hangers. That completes our look at and installation of the CURT Class 3 trailer hitch receiver, part number C13068, on our 2017 Honda Odyssey.

Went on fairly easy. I had to do a loaner torque wrench from our local auto parts store. Which they return the deposit when you bring it back. I also did have a little help from my 9 year old son. Total time to install took about 1 hour for me. I decided to trim the back fascia panel and put it back on so that took up about 20 minites of that time. One reason I chose this model from Curt was the ground clearance. We are planning a trip to Florida later this year and didn't want to take our Suburban. We already had a cargo rack and cargo bag, so this will work great for our luggage. 567941

2010 Honda Odyssey

So, i've been looking for a hitch for my 2010 Honda Odyssey EX-L van to use for transporting bikes with a bike rack I just purchased. Went to trailer rental place and they were just charging too much for the hitch and installation. Since I purchased my bike tray rack for my roof rack on my sedan here on etrailer, I decided to see what hitches were offered. I went with the Curt Class 3 hitch for my vehicle after reading the reviews and watching the video that etrailer provided for instructions. I received the package through UPS. Unfortunately, there was a hole where the hitch made its way through during the shipping process. No biggie I said. Cleaned out the mount points on the van with WD-40 and a tube bristled brush. Tested all mounted points with the provided screws and everything looked to be dialed.....Until I tried mounting the hitch. Screwed in one bolt on the driver side and tried to mount the other bolt on the passenger side to no avail. The hitch was off by just a tad under .25mm. The hitch wouldn't line up no matter what I did. So, i took a clothe (to protect the nice finish) and my rubber mallet and hammered it out. It just took a few good hits to make up for the difference to line up the hitch. I'm thinking that it probably got out of line during the shipping process via UPS. Maybe thick pieces of styrofoam would've helped on both ends to prevent this from happening. Anyways, I mounted the hitch, torque the bolts to specs, and everything lined up perfectly. The hitch install was very easy and probably a 20 minute job with one person only. I really like the finish of the Curt hitch and the way it's constructed. It's very solid with a 2 bike rack carrier. I rated this to be four stars just because I had to hammer out the difference to make the hitch line up. Again, it's probably the shipping process via UPS. But then again, I believe if it was packaged and protected with the styrofoam pieces on the corners, the hitch wouldn't of become misaligned during the process. I read all the reviews and it looks like one other customer had the same issue. Thank you so much for the hitch etrailer. Here are pics that I took this morning mounted and cleaned of 2010 Honda Odyssey EXL. 556182

Awesome product. Awesome price. Packaging, shipping, and instructions were all top notch. Super easy from start to finish. Buddy of mine bought one elsewhere and commented that “why does yours look so much better?! Like it’s a stock hitch!” I’ve already recommended etrailer to friends! 568196

Have had hitch for a year and it's still in great shape. Had a difficult time installing it but customer service was amazing! They sent me new hardware and walked me through it. Have been using etrailer for years and they've never disappointed me. 566896

Hitch fits like a glove, bike rack fits perfect and the rear door clears the bike rack when it is tilted. I'm 75 and it took me, myself, and I 30 minutes to complete the install. I was NOT happy in the least with the UPS delivery service. I've lived at my address for almost 25 years and get 2 - 3 UPS deliveries a month. The driver supposedly tried to deliver the hitch 3 times but claimed my address was not good. I drove over to the UPS "Customer Service Center" earlier today and picked up the hitch. UPS had beaten the package up but everything was still inside and in reasonable shape, couple minor scratches. I did some touch up before installing. I'm not alone! When one googles the Forest Park GA UPS "Customer Service Center", a complete misnomer, ratings, its average rating is 2.5 Stars and if you read all of the 151 comments if most had a choice below a one they'd given it to the UPS Service Center. I give the Center NEGATIVE 5 Stars and the driver a NEGATIVE 10 stars. 423353

Installed on 2015 Honda Odyssey. Normally a two man job, but used a 6" X6" an a 4" X 6" to brace center (see pics) which allowed me to do it by my self. No jack or lift required, plenty of room under van. Hardest part was getting the 10mm bolt reinstalled for the dust cover. Instruction sheets and etrailer installation video are great help. Review before you start. Mostly this will be utilized for a handi-cap cart lift. 550124

Excellent! After placing an order, I realized that I had mistakenly forgotten an item - I called customer service on a SUNDAY afternoon and immediately received help from a LIVE person. That is a rare event! Not only did etrailer make purchasing a hitch VERY easy, the package arrived in perfect condition 2 days after placing my order and the installation instructions made the install, dare I say, easy. I will certainly purchase from etrailer.com again in the future. 551683

First of all The staff at etrailer were great at resolving a problem I had. The hitch looks great on my 2016 Odyssey. The bolt holes didn't line up perfectly (probably got dropped on the end of the box by the shipper). I just laid it down on the garage floor and whacked each end once or twice with a sledge hammer. The bolt holes now lined up perfectly. Fishing the third bolt on the drivers side went smoothly. All in all I'm extremely satisfied with the hitch and the people at etrailer. I highly recommend etrailer for all your trailering needs! 498572

Hitch arrived as scheduled, no issues with delivery but the one end of of the carton was damaged in transit. All pieces were in the box. Hitch was pretty easy to put on. and it looks great on the Honda Odyssey. I did not wire any electrical because I intend to use it for a cargo carrier. Great product. Heavy duty. Expect no issues. Installation was done by the local tire company I deal with because I could not get the back end of the Honda off the ground to install it. Very easy, less than 30 minutes. 281600

Customer service was good, and the parts arrived on time. The only issue was it on a car from the Mid west, the holes are so rusty that even a good wire brush will not work. He will need a tap to chase the threads. Unfortunately, on a Honda Odyssey the threads are an unusual size and the only place you can get the tap is at an industrial supply house like Granger or McMaster Carr, which is not open on weekends and are few and far between. This turned a one hour job into a four hour job over several days. Also taps like this or not cheap and by the time you add it all up if your time has value, you might be better off with another option. The hitch itself appears to be nice, Aldo be careful about moving around on concrete because it will chip off the paint. The kit probably should include a 12 x 1.25 tap. 547131

This was the 3rd time I purchased a hitch from etrailer.com. This time the box was torn in shipment & wiring harness fell out. They immediately sent a replacement. The receiver had been smacked during shipment so that the bolt holes did not quite line up. After a minor adjustment, installation was a snap. Service & convenience could not be better! 550189

The hitch, I'm sure, will be great. Plan to use it on a trip soon. The reason for the 4, not 5, stars is the installation process of this device on my '08 Odyssey. The website, printed directions and installation video on youtube posted by etrailer suggest the hitch can be installed in 15-20 minutes. Mine took over an hour. Why? Because, what none of the material tells you is the bolt locations on the Odyssey likely require lengthy scrubbing to clear years of accumulated debris. Fully 30 minutes was spent scrubbing, spraying and attempting to screw in the bolts. More than a few moments I thought the bolts would never go in. Then, once the threads took hold, I nearly broke my wratchet trying to turn them into place. I got them in about 3/4 of the way, then drove to a nearby auto shop and asked them to use their (much more powerful) impact wrench to finish the job. Since I had done 95% of the work already and I'm a regular customer, they did the final bit for me for free. But I didn't see in any of the instructions that this installation will require some much more powerful tools than a regular handyman would have in his garage. So, I wish the directions were more clear on the website, the video and the printed instructions that this can be a very lengthy process if you have an older vehicle. I was prepared for a 15-20 minute installation. Wish I had been told it could take much, much longer and could well require use of a powered, impact wrench. 525108

Doing well! Only complaint is that on my van 02 Honda Odyssey, the tail pipe is too close to the hitch so it rattles when starting the van or when it is idling. Otherwise going well and happy with price, shipping, and customer service.

Materials came (in excellent shape) in with the exception of my tester. One of my M12-1.25 x 35mm bolts was very difficult to install. Finally got it to thread...I cleaned each of the threads as described. Videos were especially helpful. I did call etrailer about my tester and they are shipping one out to me. I did not have to remove the small screw (that required a stubby screwdriver) and the plastic fascia covering (on driver side) and once I reinstalled, it did not interfere with the hitch once installed. 523316

Product shipment arrived promptly and box was in decent shape. The instructions were accurate and complete. The parts bag was complete. The 2007 Honda Odyssey that this hitch was installed to was nine years old with 125K miles located in the rust belt. So I had to spend considerable time spraying rust dissolver and using a wire battery brush to clean the factory weld nuts. That worked. Spray yours now, get that action going. The hitch bolts installed properly. I had the assistance of my two teen sons to lift and align the hitch while I got a bolt threaded on each side. The rest of the bolts went smoothly. I did not install a wiring harness as I am only either attaching a bike rack or hitch step. 290682

I really liked the look of this hitch with the circular tube. I would prefer that it was tucked in under the bumper a little more, but it's not an eye-sore. It was fairly easy to install with a little bit of elbow grease. I first thought the hitch wasn't wide enough as the holes did not line up. Getting the bolts screwed in was a challenge. If I still had my lift I could have used that to push up and hold the hitch in place so that the holes lined up. Once it's installed, it works great. 150504

Ive had no issues with this hitch. Ive only used it for my bike rack and have not tried to tow anything. But, Im sure it can handle it. The hitch still looks great with no rusting.

I really appreciated the detailed installation instructions and videos available. It gave me much more confidence in tackling self installation. Identifying the correct part and ordering was easy. I used free shipping and it was delivered in 3 days. I was able to install the hitch receiver by myself on my 2011 Honda Odyssey. I didn't even need to jack up the rear end. Installation took me about an hour. My only complaint is that the paint on the hitch receiver was disrupted in a few places. These are relatively small and only in one place was it down to the metal. The box the receiver arrived in had been crushed on one end and re-taped so I suspect that this issue was due to rough handling somewhere along the way. 424837

Great product. Installing the down bolt was easy, my ten year old did it. I went with the Curt hitch because the ends are closed when compared to the hidden hitch or draw-tite. I put this on my 2003 Odyssey, the weld nuts were pretty corroded but everything went on perfectly. I did read several reviews about the customer service at etrailer and how outstanding it is. I agree. I made two separate orders, both shipped from the warehouse 48 hours after the order was placed. 74242

Its been a year, still love the Curt hitch I purchased. Coupled with the Yakima 5 bike rack I purchased from etrailer, my family has been able to mountain bike in Moab, Jackson Hole and Fruita among other places. Never had a problem with the Curt hitch or the Yakima rack.

Received the package sooner than expected which is awesome. The one end of the rack has already broken through the packaging box. Maybe in the future, a tiny bit more padding like stuffed boxes or styrofoam may prevent the content to sway inside the box during transit. Nonetheless, the rack remained intact. Install. Thanks for the video on your site. Install was very easy. Fit like a glove and aligned perfectly. Installation time could have probably taken less than 30 mins if I didn't have to scour for the right sized tools. I use mainly metric size (bike mechanic stuff) so I had to match the closest metric with the english spec. Otherwise, squeaky clean and pain-free install. Tips: I used the packaging box as a place setter. I placed the rack on top of the empty box (unflattened) and used that to guide the rack underneath the van. I used an old thick phone-book sized catalog to wedge underneath the rack to raise it and line up with the holes. I moved the box with the rack on top as needed to fine tune the alignment. Easy peasy. 176382

Hitch arrived in a couple of days; was a breeze to install, and cost less than half of what the dealer would have charged for the part (not including installation), and the dealer part came with a 26-page installation manual and would have required cutting the bumper (for which no template was required). 89396

Order came in quick, but the sides of the box weren't reinforced so part of hitch came out on one side. No visible damage, but some packaging on the sides would help. Moving the box was easy since it incorporates offset handles. Install was pretty painless, but the nut and bolts require torque. Important that you have a sizable torque wrench and enough leverage. I had to put a pipe around the handle of my wrench to get the last few ft-lbs on. And a tip in case you're installing by yourself like I was, use wood blocks or an extra jack stand to help lift the driver size of the hitch into place while you maneuver around the exhaust. Removing the exhaust hanger is not necessary, but it may help especially if you don't have the right extensions for your socket. 395739

Box was a bit damaged, no big deal... everything else was great. Firstly the customer service when you make the order! Amazing and perfect X10! Online vs calling? Calling expedites the shipment by one day. And the customer service people who answer the phone are very happy and pleasant type of people that answer questions like they know what they are talking about and with opinion. I installed the hitch and it took 20 or maybe 15 minutes... The video is almost exact. If I made the installation vid / I would fine-tune a couple of minor points. It is heavy and awkward to hold when beneath the van while threading the bolts...getting a friend to help is suggested for this reason and to have beers with after. A stubby Phillips is mandatory to take the panel off / no work around this? Get a stubby and a friend is what is missing from the vid. I recommend your company to every one including my granny. Thank you! 220332

Despite being easy to install (all hitches for the Odyssey are that way), the design is simply lacking when compared to the Hidden Hitch or Draw-Tite. The Odyssey has three factory mount points on each side. The Curt hitch only uses four of the factory mounts, their fifth requires you to snake a bolt up. While not difficult, it's simply a poor design compared to the alternatives (they use all six factory mounts) Unfortunately I didn't notice this until the hitch arrived (my bad, and in to way a reflection on etrailer, their service was great). Chris 18443

Comments

Thank you so much Chris for this review. I was leaning towards the Curt trailer hitch because of the extra 12 inch of clearance that it gives over the Hidden Hitch and Draw-Tite which both have 12 inches as opposed to 12 1/2. But, now that I have verified how many bolts are used, I will probably go with Hidden Hitch. Thanks again.

Glad to hear install went well. What bike rack did you end up running with your 07 Ody and Curt hitch? Im in the same situation but want to make sure I order the right combo. Need to make sure the bike rack has enough clearance to clear my bumper when installed and folded up.

I use the Yakima 4 bike rack 2 and dont go 1.5 with adapter that has a base arm can let u swing the whole unit awaywith the bikes and access the truck. Sorry I forgot the name since the bike is from craiglist. It can hold 4 bike with cable lock and receiver lock. Hope that will help.

Honda Odyssey

All companies should be run like this one. I ordered Tuesday night and received my hitch on Thursday (for FREE!) and had excellent email status messages along the way. The hitch arrived in perfect condition. Install: I'm a Gomer and I got this thing installed by myself...at night...in 40-minutes. No problems, no injuries. The printed instructions weren't terribly clear where they explained the fish-wire/carriage bolt step, but the online video clarified things perfectly for me. I recommend having a friend help, but solo-install is possible. Product: Excellent build quality and well-finished. Mine arrived with no obvious blemishes from shipping. I liked the tapered lines of the Curt hitch compared to the other products when choosing one for my Odyssey. Seeing one out in public before ordering sealed the deal. There are only 4 threaded attachment poins on the Odyssey frame, so the 4 bolts and one fished-in bolt for redundancy give me plenty of confidence. I plan to use a bike rack, but I wouldn't hesitate to pull a small boat. I wouldn't tow anything huge with this vehicle regardless of the hitch rating. Thanks guys! My neighbor should be ordeering soon! 102484

The Curt hitch receiver arrived with some minor scuff marks from the box and one 2" scratch that had been touched up with black spray paint. I could tell it was touched up because there were drip marks on the crossbar. It probably could have been packed better. There was also a white product sku sticker on the side of the receiver about 4" square in size. The sticker didn't have removable glue on it, so it was a total pain to remove. Start to finish, it took just over 3 hours to install the hitch receiver. This included everything from unboxing to installation to clean-up. I installed the Curt hitch on a 6-year old 2009 Honda Odyssey, which required the threads to be re-tapped. I live in a midwestern climate and, while the underbody was rust-free, the weld nut threads were in bad shape. At first I tried cleaning the threads with rust Blaster and a 1/2" battery terminal wire brush. After several go-rounds, I had only made progress on one nut. At that point, I decided to tap the threads. I visited one big box home improvement store and called 2 auto parts stores looking for a 12mm x 1.25mm tap. After all of this, I finally found the tap at Menards (it cost approx. 15 for tap, wrench and tap oil). Once the weld nuts were re-tapped, things went very quickly. I used a hydraulic jack to raise the back end of the van and had help holding/hoisting the hitch receiver into place. The final touch was to use blue loctite to secure the bolts into place. Lesson learned: Next time I purchase a newer vehicle that is capable of having a hitch receiver, I'm going to put silicone or wax on the threads to keep them fresh! I'm rating 4/5 because of the underwhelming packaging and poor touch-up job. Otherwise, the price was right, customer service has been excellent and shipping was super fast. Thanks etrailer! 184865

Curt hitch C13068 and cover I-728 installed on an Oddy 2012 for the purpose of installing a YAKIMA bike rack. Due to the combination of OEM price and the need for large cutouts in the bodywork required I decided on CURT aftermarket vs. OEM. Selected CURT based on ground/receiver ground-clearance, looks and no mods to bumper bodywork. I installed the CURT hitch by myself in about 1 hour, I used a furniture dolly to move the hitch into position and cribbed it with wood to get to the right height. I did not undo the exhaust mount. Some people have expressed concern over the hitch design, at the end of the day in this "product liability environment" I assume CURT is doing their homework and properlly designed the hitch. Mind you, I do not expect to connect anything heavier than a loaded Yakima 4 bike rack (less than 250 lbs loaded). I do not think I can add to the wealth of information provided by etrailer and the CURT instructions themselves, other than I disagree with the comment to not install the driver side plastic cover. I re-installed by trimming with a box cutter a approx. 1/2 in. × 4 in. corner section. With regards to e-trailer. They could do a slightlly better job packing the hitch so that they do not break through the box (mine showed up sticking out with some minor scuffs). Mind you, I would buy from them again tomorrow based on all the product info, videos and reviews (good and bad), THANK YOU and Kudos I deduct the CURT hitch 1 notch, for not extending the wings to capture all three (3) OEM mount points. Other notes: I separatelly installed an OEM tranny cooler as recommended by HONDA. 71131

Good evening!Great job in placing back the driver side plastic cover. I have a question on photo no.1, whats the extension above the hitch

-- comment by: Dexter - 08/28/2013

That is actually a hitch cover that he wedged up above the hitch to get it out of the way. If you look closely, you can see it has a tether that goes around the hitch behind the collar at the moth of the hitch. It is part I-728.

Hi Francisco, Thanks for the great review. It helped us to clear any doubts and decide on the hitch. One humble request...could you please post the picture for where you replaced the driver side plastic cover? Im curious to see how to cut out in order to replace it. Many Thanks!

You just need to cut on one corner of the inside lip of cover, you are cutting the tip of this lip. Take your time, place the cover and cut away the interference little-by-little. I placed and removed three times because I wanted a tight fit and did not wanted to cut more material than required. Attached find two images indicating the location where I had to cut on the inside lip of the cover. I used a box cutter and shaved little by little, you could also use a hot knife or a rotary tool just dont overcut. Take your time.

Honda Odyssey

This is not the first nor will it be the last hitch I have purchased from etrailer. if this one performs like the previous ones then it is a durable solid hitch which hauls dirt bikes, kayaks, dirt, rocks, mulch & sand on short and long hauls without problems. If that isn't enough reason to get an etrailer hitch then they really look good, well secured & tucked away under both of our Honda Odyssey's. Easy to understand install instructions & neat little tools to make life better during the installation plus the online video if one needs them. All of the above and FAST shipping! 233285

The hitch arrived without issue. The box had no damage or any look of being mishandled. Installed the hitch with reletive ease although a second hand could have been used in certain instances. 2010 Honda Accord

Easiest thing ever to install. This is my 3rd purchase of a trailer hitch from eTrailer (2004 Nissan Xterra, 2010 Honda Accord, 2007 Honda Odyssey). It probably took 20 minutes from start to finish. Holes line up perfectly, video was perfectly done to make sure I did what I was supposed to. There is no drilling required. Just spray some WD-40 in the holes, clean with a bristle-brush (I used an old baby bottle-cleaning brush - the small one) and screw them in. I found it was helpful to disconnect the rubber mount from the tailpipe. It doesn't move very much, but it's just enough to slide the mount in to place. If you're installing it alone, do yourself a favor and balance the other side on a bucket. You can try and be a "man", but you'll get tired pretty quickly while trying to hold a 50 lb hitch and screw in a bolt with one hand! Hitch is very low profile and SOLID. UPS beat the box up pretty badly, but it didn't damage the hitch at all. I would recommend etrailer.com to anyone and everyone. What at great line of products, and fast shipping! (NOTE: You need to have a torque wrench for any of these installations! Borrow one or buy one, but you NEED it) 198290

We bought a new (to us) Odyssey. Our last Odyssey gave us a great 11-12 years, and the hitch made family vacations all the more possible. I don't do my own car repairs, don't change my oil and don't didn't install the first hitch on our former car, but I wasn't that impressed with the hitch from the Orange moving/rental/storage company that sold and installed my first hitch. Someone recommended I check out etrailer.com. After reviewing a couple hitches, I chose this Curt Class III. The guys as etrailer rated the install as "easy" and gave both "pro install" and "DIY install" times. I found them helpful and accurate. Prompt shipping. Excellent customer service. The included instructions and video were easy to understand. 438682

2012 Honda Odyssey

Overall, I was pleased with my purchase. I wish there was a special addition to state that older vehicles will need a little cleaning of the holt ovations before install. In addition after calling the help line, they recommended the thread tap as a last resort while I ended up using. I wish I would have by-pass some of the work I invested by using this first. The actual rack was off a little bit for the width and bolt holes but I was able to manage by putting in the last bolt you use with the wire to pull it into place for the middle bolt on the drivers side. Needless to say, it is installed and way more cost effective than the Honda hitch from the dealer. 527291

Comments

Cleaning weld nuts on the vehicle is not unusual and we do have a help article, and a video that shows how to do this, but it sounds like the tap method worked for you. It is common for our hitches to be flexed during shipping and for the mounting holes to not line up correctly, but it sounds like you were able to get this hitch installed.

2007 Honda Odyssey

Kudos to eTrailer for fast shipping and above all the excellent installation videos. The Curt hitch was a snap to install, fit perfectly on our 2007 Odyssey, and looks great also. I bought this over the other choices because I liked the look of the closed end-caps vs. the open tubes (which i suspect have a greater opportunity for debris and rust). I had one minor thing on the install and that was the threading of the bolt onto the leader that is provided (which is excellent), and it was my mistake: I threaded it on too far, and so as a result, once I got it into the hole, I couldn't undo the wire from the bolt, so I had to basically just unwind it - nothing wrong with the product, just a tip for other consumers - only thread enough to pull the bolt through.. :) Once installed, I like the fact that the receiver is slightly recessed from the bumper because there's less chance of smacking your leg on the metal bar. I also bought the Curt rubber end-cap as a precaution. eTrailer also upgraded our shipping so we received in just 3 days, even though we used standard free shipping. So a big thanks for the upgrade and we are extremely satisfied with this purchase and can recommend eTrailer whole-heartedly. 89170

  • Recommended Hitch with Best Ground Clearance for 2013 Honda Odyssey
  • As you can see by the photo I have edited for you, the Draw-Tite and Curt hitches available for your Odyssey are all pretty similarly designed. When we installed both hitches on a 2013 Odyssey, we found that the Curt # C13068 had about a 1/2 inch greater ground clearance (12-1/2 inches) versus 12 inches for the Draw-Tite # 75270 models. The receiver of the Draw-Tite hitches are recessed a bit more under the vehicle, but neither of the hitches will extend past the bumper, and therefore...

If we go with the upper end of this range and assume that your trailer will be loaded to its full capacity, 3,015 lbs, this gives us a tongue weight of 452 lbs. When it comes to installing the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, # C13068, on your 2002 Honda Odyssey, it is best to just clean out the bolt holes on your frame instead of using a tap. Both companies are extremely diligent in testing their trailer hitches, so you can rest assured that the bolt number is not a cause for concern.
