recommend you change the instructions to state that you must have a right angle drill. I used it to drill a pilot hole and then drilled the larger hole from inside the spare tire compartment. I do not think you could do this with a regular drill. The space is too tight.

Eric

1/25/2014

Thanks for adding the pics. So other than right angle drill, it was pretty easy? Four holes, and mount. Did you need to remove bumper or touch exhaust? Thanks for your reply.

Patrick B.

2/4/2014

You will not need to remove or move the bumper or exhaust. You may want to have a second set of hands to help hold and position the hitch for marking your holes. You do want to make sure it is level. Once you mark your holes, the install is pretty easy from there. You can even drill pilot holes from the outside with a small bit once you have made your marks. Then you can go inside the trunk to open them up to 17/32. This will minimize time under the car. Just be mindful of what is behind where you are drilling.

BMW

It got the job done. I’d invest the extra time/money in good sealant that’ll be trouble free for years. I towed a jet ski all over Texas behind my bmw 535i. Dust center hitch covers and rinses after use go a long way.

BMW 5 series

BMW 528xi.
I was referred to etrailer
by a friend, I Recieved everything on time as ordered. Wiring harness even came with an extra voltage tester! The wiring harness install had the highest difficulty level out of the install but took less then an hour. More then plenty wire was delivered in the package. I really like the wire splice connectors supplied in the kit made everything so easy!!! The curt hitch install was super easy and with the aid of a jack to hold it in place, was completed in an hour. Total installation was 3 hours. Can't wait to tow my motorcycle!!!

2009 BMW 5 Series

2009 bmw 528i. you almost can't see the trailer hitch below the bumper. I've NEVER seen a Beemer pulling a trailer.............

Electrical hookup was just as the instructions said. BMW has the battery in the right side of the trunk so power hookup was easy.
I put the pig-tail down in the spare tire well when not in use.

Feel free to use whatever pics you see fit.

Great product and install videos.

Awesome , easy installation on my e60 bmw , thanks etrailer

BMW

Things to consider:
The hitch was on
sale, so very good price. Cheapest in North America.
Well build and strong, but the BMW metal feels too weak, so don't expect to tow a camper. Use for bike rack or haul trailer only.
I followed the instructions to mount and that was a big mistake. I should have used my brain instead. I should have marked the two bumper holes, drill and mount the hitch tight and after that mark the 2 spare tire holes, drill and tighten the back.

I'm happy to leave very positive feedback on my interaction with eTrailer.
It has been absolutely fantastic, and special recognition to your customer
service representative, Heidi (?), who helped with the missing parts on an
emergency basis. Very, very thankful that I had gone through this purchase
with you and will definitely be coming back in the future.

Thank you again for helping me out when I was in a bind. I do appreciate it
very very much.

2004 BMW 5 Series

I ordered this trailer hitch and the "sport wing" bike rack. Delivery was very fast. I installed the hitch with no problems? We have full suspension bikes and this bike rack should work well.

Great service! Product came promptly and mechanic installed onto my Bmw 535xi.

I would recommend etrailer based on their product knowledge and friendly staff.

  • Curt Hitch Compatibility with 2010 BMW 535ix with M Sport Package
For your 2010 BMW 535ix with M sport package I reached out to my contact at Curt and he confirmed # C11498 is a fit for all trim packages and models of the 535xi for that year. He didn't have exclusions for the M Sport Package, so he said to his knowledge it would fit without modification.

  • Curt Class I Hitch Part # 11498 for 2008 BMW 535I
Per the instructions provided by Curt, no fascia trimming is required for installation of this particular hitch. I confirmed this by phone with one of my contacts in Curt Tech Services, as well. Four holes will need to be drilled for installation, and you will want to make sure to caulk around the bolt holes in the trunk pan after installation to prevent exhaust fumes and water from entering the vehicle. I will include a link to the installation instructions below.

  • Can a 2006 BMW 530xi Tow a Motorcycle on a Trailer with a Class I Trailer Hitch
The Curt Trailer Hitch, # 11498, for the 2006 BMW 5 series sedan is rated at 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight. The combined weight of the trailer and Harley cannot exceed 2,000 pounds. A lot of larger Harleys can be quite heavy on their own, with several models over 1,000 pounds. However, if you find the right trailer and stay under the weight capacity limits of the hitch, you will be able to tow the bike and trailer and the hitch will be able to handle it....

  • What is Fascia Trimming with the Curt Class I Trailer Hitch Receiver for my 2007 BMW 5 Series?
Yes, this will work on your 2007 BMW 5 Series. This Curt Class I Trailer Hitch Receiver with Drawbar, part #11498, requires some fascia trimming. A bumper consists of the metal frame and fascia on top of it. Fascia is the outside shell of your bumper. You will only need to trim a bit of the underside of the bumper fascia, and once the hitch is installed, you will not even be able to tell. Before cutting the fascia, you would mark where you plan to cut prior to actually cutting. Using a...

  • What Is the Correct Trailer Hitch for a 2009 BMW 550i with Sport Package
I looked up your order and was able to confirm that you do indeed have the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11498. I then checked with Curt and see that they have this hitch listed as the correct fit for your 2009 BMW 550i. Therefore, I do not think that you have the wrong hitch installed. If there was then chances are there would have been extensive modifications needed in order to make it work. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver is a custom fit for the 5 series sedans. In regards to...

  • Will the Curt Hitch C11498 for a 2006 BMW 530i Sit Behind Panel On Aero Rear Bumper
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11498 which is the only option available for a 2006 BMW 530i will install beneath the rear bumper as you can see in the attached install photo. Therefore, it will not sit behind the removable rear bumper panel on your 530i with Aero Package. I am not aware of a trailer hitch offered for the 530i that would sit behind this panel but the receiver tube is actually still hidden pretty well so this should not be too much of a concern.

On the Curt Trailer Hitch, # 11498, for the 2005 BMW 5 Series, the stabilizing straps they are talking about are the Curt Bike Rack Strap with Cambuckle, # 18050. Most trailer hitches will mount to the frame of the vehicle, which will give the support needed when using a hitch bike rack or hitch cargo carrier.
