What Is the Correct Trailer Hitch for a 2009 BMW 550i with Sport Package

Question:

HELP! Although etrailer was efficient and prompt in sending me my order, I need some help. ... Order # ... I ordered the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class 1 - 1-1/4” - C11498 for my 2009 BMW 550i with Sport Package. I had Performance Hitch and Truck Accessories The installed C11498 sticks out below my bumper about 4 inches. The Performance Hitch and Accessories installer says he installed it properly. Nothing in the advertisement and photos and video of this C11498 on a 500 series 2009 BMW shows this Hitch sticking out beyond the bumper. I think the installer has installed the Hitch wrong. Please advise.

I looked up your order and was able to confirm that you do indeed have the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11498. I then checked with Curt and see that they have this hitch listed as the correct fit for your 2009 BMW 550i. Therefore, I do not think that you have the wrong hitch installed. If there was then chances are there would have been extensive modifications needed in order to make it work. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver is a custom fit for the 5 series sedans.

In regards to the extension of the receiver tube beyond the rear bumper, that is more or less just how the trailer hitch was designed. I will say that although it may not have the best look or the one you are after, it does however alleviate any clearance issues between the bumper and hitch mounted accessories which is a real problem on certain makes/models.

Unfortunately, there are no other trailer hitches available for your 2009 BMW 550i.
