What is Fascia Trimming with the Curt Class I Trailer Hitch Receiver for my 2007 BMW 5 Series?

I just wanted to double check that this will work on a 2007 530xi all-wheel drive BMW. Also, a previous answer given to a customer says that some fascia trimming needs to be done...What does this mean exactly?

Yes, this will work on your 2007 BMW 5 Series. This Curt Class I Trailer Hitch Receiver with Drawbar, part #11498, requires some fascia trimming. A bumper consists of the metal frame and fascia on top of it. Fascia is the outside shell of your bumper. You will only need to trim a bit of the underside of the bumper fascia, and once the hitch is installed, you will not even be able to tell.

Before cutting the fascia, you would mark where you plan to cut prior to actually cutting. Using a new, sharp pair of tin snips or utility knife, cut the fascia. If you are using a utility knife, do a series of light cuts first. Then make long cuts to lessen the amount of jagged edges. Use 220-grit sand paper to smooth the edges.

Also, make sure that you seal the bolt holes created in your trunk for the hitch with silicone caulk to prevent exhaust fumes and water from possibly coming in your trunk.
