The factory support is actually reinstalled after the hitch is installed. The hitch mounts to the frame and there shouldnt be any need for the washers. I am attaching a link to an installation video.

Works great. Very happy with this in the Colorado pickup. Easy install but had to have 3 of us to do it right. 3 old dudes so just have some help.
