Question:

Im looking to buy a weight distribution hitch for my truck and trailer. I have a 2019 GMC Canyon 4WD All terrain short bed and a 2016 Jayco Jay Feather 20 XTG hybrid travel trailer. What size weight distribution hitch do I need?

Expert Reply:

According to the specs I found on your 2016 Jayco Jay Feather 20 XTG hybrid, it has a gross towing weight rating of 4,950 pounds and a dry hitch weight of 370 pounds. These specs determine the weight capacity you need in the hitch.

With these specs, a great option is the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37060ET. Apart from the maximum tongue weight of 600 pounds and the maximum gross towing capacity of 6,000 pounds, the Eqal-i-zer comes with an impressive 4-point sway-control system that provides superior sway control. It is important to note that this system has brackets that install 27" - 32" back from center of coupler. I recommend measuring your trailer tongue to make sure you have roof on your frame to attach the brackets.

Since the Equal-i-zer fits a 2-inch hitch receiver on your 2019 GMC Canyon, if you don't have one, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13203. With this hitch, it comes with an easy bolt-on installation and comes with a gloss outer coat on top of the base powder coat for superior protection from rust and corrosion.
