The RetraxPRO XR offers the most security and the best protection for the items in your truck bed. This aluminum tonneau cover has a snow load of 500 lbs and can withstand impacts and inclement weather. You can secure this retractable cover at any point along the rails with an easy-to-use, locking handle, all to ensure that your gear stays safe and protected. And accessory T-slots are built into the rails so you can add a ladder rack or roof rack to carry cargo above your bed without interrupting the functioning of the cover.
This tonneau cover retracts quickly and easily for complete truck bed access. It does this by gliding along the side rails with sealed ball-bearing rollers, which also prevent the cover from binding or retracting unevenly. The RetraxPRO XR has no joints or hinges that can wear out, freeze, or trap dirt. It does not need to be lubricated and it has no springs that can fail. Unlike other truck bed covers on the market, you won't have to struggle with pull straps, hook-and-loop fasteners, or snaps every time you open and close the cover.
At the end of the cover, on the driver's side, there is a pop-up handle that makes it easy to slide the cover up and down the length of your truck bed with just one hand. The handle must be popped up for the tonneau to move, but you can push or pull the cover to guide it along the rails from either side of your truck.
When not in use, the cover rolls up into a space-saving storage canister at the bulkhead of your truck, so you'll never have to remove the tonneau to access your cargo. This canister has a unique spiral track system that keeps the cover from coming into contact with itself while it's retracted. This helps prevent wear and tear on the cover while you're opening and closing it.
With the cover fully retracted, the entire canister assembly only takes up a small portion of your truck bed. And the angled bottom of the canister gives you more space to slide long items or small gear underneath it.
When the RetraxPro XR is closed, potential thieves will find it nearly impossible to access the items in your truck bed. The locking handle is mounted flat and is concealed with a lid, keeping it well hidden from prying eyes. This flat, weather-guarded lid also keeps out dirt and debris to prevent internal corrosion in the keyhole, ensuring that the lock lasts longer and won't seize up.
To unlock the cover, lift the lid on the lock, insert and twist the key, and press the button to release the pop-up handle. Once the handle is up, you can slide the cover back.
You can latch the cover at any position along the rails by pushing the handle back down. This lock-in-place feature enables you to carry long items that overlap your tailgate while still covering cargo, such as a tackle box, that's stored closer to the bulkhead of the truck.
This cover is better at preventing cargo theft than soft covers, which can be cut open with a knife. It also cannot be pried up at the edges like some hard, folding covers. As a result, your cargo and truck bed are secure when this cover is closed and latched, as long as you lock your tailgate as well. Conveniently, the cover operates independent of the tailgate, so you can open and close the tailgate without touching the cover, and you can open and close the cover without disturbing the tailgate.
To keep snow, water, and dust out of your bed, the tonneau cover includes weather stripping and foam seals. An automotive-grade weather strip ensures a firm, dependable seal along the bulkhead of your truck. Attached to the bottom of each side rail is a foam seal that conforms to the shape of your bed rails. These seals help to prevent any scratches on your bed rails as well as fill any gaps to keep your cargo from getting wet or dirty. The cover also overlaps the top of the tailgate for additional protection against intrusive dirt and debris.
The RetraxPRO XR is constructed of heavy-duty aluminum slats that are 1" thick. They have excellent dent and impact resistance to keep the tonneau from getting damaged by falling debris or by thieves who attempt to break in by force. In addition, this cover can hold up to 500 lbs of snow or evenly distributed weight when it's rolled out. And on top of that, its durable matte black finish is weather and scratch resistant.
To prevent mildew from forming on the cover while it's rolled up, the RetraxPRO XR features a water management system that channels excess water out of the storage canister. Two drain tubes attach to the bottom of the canister to remove any water that gets inside. The tubes then route water through the existing drain holes in the floor of your truck bed, ensuring that the stored cover remains as dry as possible.
When rolled out, this tonneau sits nearly flush with the back of the canister to give a streamlined look. In addition to the flush-mounted locking handle, the sleek frame features a top panel that overlaps the bulkhead of the truck and storage canister, eliminating the gap in between.
The low-profile side rails mount just 1" above your truck bed, which offers a sleek look while still providing enough clearance for most 5th-wheel hitches to remain installed beneath the cover.
Integrated into the side rails of the RetraxPRO XR is a track system that you can use to mount your T-slot-compatible ladder rack or roof rack crossbars (sold separately). This way you can haul your bikes and other gear above your cover to free up your truck bed for additional cargo. This Trax Rail System does not interfere with the functionality of the retractable tonneau at all, so you'll still be able to use the cover while your racks are mounted.
To see if your specific Thule, Yakima, or Rhino Rack T-slot-compatible ladder rack or roof rack will work with this tonneau, please refer to the alternate instructions link at the bottom of this page.
To install the RetraxPRO XR, begin by attaching the side rails to the canister with the provided screws.
Because the cover comes preinstalled inside of the canister, it will take 2 people to lift the assembled unit and place it on your truck. Once the cover is in position, make sure that the side rails are square on your truck bed rails. Then secure them in place with the bolt-on clamps. Finally, install the drain tubes in the canister and route them through the factory holes in your truck bed.

Hi, Matt here with etrailer and today we're gonna be taking a look at the RetraxPro XR line of hard tonneau covers. You want to use our fit guide here in etrailer to make sure you're getting the right fit for your truck. Now this is gonna be a great option for you if you're looking for something that's gonna help keep the things in the back of your bed protected from the elements or if you wanna save one some extra gas and you want something that's gonna be custom fit. So let's check it out. So the tonneau cover we're gonna have today is gonna be retractable canister style. So what that means is it's just gonna roll up into itself and save you on a lot of space.
We're also gonna have an aluminum construction with a matte black finish to it. And what's nice about that aluminum construction is it's gonna be very durable and strong as compared to if you had any soft covers. If you had a soft covered tonneau cover, then someone could come by, just cut it open and access whatever you had in your bed. In our case today, this is gonna have the ability to lock so no one will be able to open up your tonneau cover. And if you have a locking tailgate like we do, then no one will be able to access any of it.
But let's open up so we can take a closer look at it. So to do that we're gonna have this box right here. This is gonna have a door on top of it. When you remove that door, you'll notice we have that lock core. That's what I was talking about earlier about this being able to lock.
And with it in the unlocked position, you can just press this button, it's gonna release your tonneau cover, and you'll have the ability to slide this back. Now in some cases, if you don't want to pull it all the way back, you just wanna pull it some, you would actually close this back down until it clicks into place and it'll lock it in this position. The reason why you might want that is you might have something that you want to access a lot. Something like if you had to tote right here, try to get some tools out of here, but you have other items in the back that you don't want getting wet or being out in the elements. And the way that this rolls is pretty smooth.
We're gonna have some ball bearings that go along this track on the inside that just slide right down until it goes all the way back to the canister. And what I also do like about this is we don't have any hinges or anything like that that can get gunked up over time or get damaged. So since this just rolls into place, you don't have to worry about a lot of extra things breaking. Continuing on with the rails, they're gonna sit up just about an inch on the back of our bed, which isn't bad at all. It's actually pretty low profile for how like robust and sturdy they are. And something that really sets it apart is that we're gonna have this T channel that runs through either the side of our rails. So what that T channel's gonna allow you to do is mount up any accessories or if you wanna put anything up like ladder racks or bed racks and you still want to use your tonneau cover, you're gonna have that ability and it's still gonna be compatible with a lot of our more popular brands on our website. You probably noticed when we're opening up our tonneau cover, we have this 5th wheel back here. That might be a concern of you if you have anything like that back here. And the total height that the 5th wheel we have today is gonna be a little bit less than 20 inches and we still have clearance to open up our tonneau cover. Now let's check out our canister. So like I was talking about earlier, what's nice about this is it doesn't take up a lot of room up behind our cab, so it's not blocking anything, but it is gonna take up a little bit of room in your bed. So we get some measurements. The first measurement I'm gonna get is gonna be the total length it adds, and that's gonna be about 13-1/2 inches in your bed. So the bed we have today is about 6-3/4 feet long. So you're gonna lose about a foot. Now the feature of the canister is it's gonna have a spiral design. So what that means is the way it rolls up into itself is it's not gonna making contact the entire time. So you don't have to worry about it rubbing against itself, making some wear and tear over time. And at the bottom we're gonna have some drain holes. You'll notice we'll have a tube that runs down. You're gonna have two of those in total. So the reason why we want to have drain tubes on our tonneau cover is because it's gonna prevent any water from pooling up inside and provide that water to run through so we don't have any rusting from occurring. Another thing that's gonna keep water out of here is gonna be our weather strips. We're gonna have one on the back of our canister so you don't have to worry about any water coming into your bed. Another area we're gonna have a weather strip is gonna be on our rails right underneath here, so you don't have to worry about water pooling up underneath them either. What's also really nice is this isn't gonna require any drilling for at least mounting it onto your vehicle. We're gonna be using these clamps. There's gonna be four in total, but it's just gonna grab on to these rails and your bed rails and secure it into place. But when you're ready to go, roll this out, just make sure it's unlocked and just pull it out. It shouldn't be very hard if you measured everything right and just make sure to lock it back up so it doesn't roll out on you. Overall, I think it's gonna be a great option for you if you are looking for something that's gonna be very secure where people won't be able to access underneath it and you're looking for something robust, sturdy, it's gonna have a clean finish to it too. And the fact that it's able to work with ladder racks and bed racks up to 500 pounds, it's gonna be great because you'll be able to load this up with a lot of items. If you are doing that, just make sure you check what your vehicle is capable of hauling. You can find that in your owner's manual. And your ladder racks and bed racks just make sure you know how much that can handle too. And that completes our look at the RetraxPro XR line of hard tonneau covers. Thanks for watching.

Install crossbars (sold separately) in the slotted rails of this heavy-duty cover to carry your bikes, kayaks, and more above your bed. Manually operate the cover with the pop-up, locking handle, which gives you the best security for your cargo.I like the design and the convenience of not flipping it. It's not completely water proof as I'd like. The rails for the the Thule mounts and bike rack are awesome!!
It is great. Took about 2 hours to install. You will need 2 people to put the assembled cover in the bed. I do have the multiplex tailgate and rain water will get into the bed because of the gap in the tailgate sections.
Best Tonneau cover I have owned! It's so nice for travel, parking in the city, etc. to know the contents of your truck are safe. It's also great you can stack significant weight on top of the tonneau cover when you have more gear than room underneath it-this is a spendy product compared to a vinyl cover but it's so worth it!
The canister cover (metal) and end piece (plastic) were damaged in shipping, but eTrailer/Retrax shipped another cover assembly quickly.
I was able to assemble and install everything according to instructions. I recommend have two moderately strong people to install the canister and rails on the truck -- the canister is heavy; with the rails, it's just awkward.
I read reviews complaining the cover isn't watertight. I paid special attention to the installation instructions to ensure the appropriate (slight) twist to the rails. I still have minor water ingress on either side at the front or back of the truck bed, but everything remains dry in the middle. If you have something that MUST not get wet, I recommend elevating it slightly off the bed AND covering it with a waterproof tarp -- it's cheap insurance.
I have two complaints: first, the latch is so long, it collides with my Rhino Rack. Argh! I need to buy the additional risers for the rack. Second, I wish there was the ability to open the cover from either the driver's or passenger's side. When I have a trailer attached, I find myself hopping over the tongue -- a nit, I know.
Great cover! Kevin is the best!
one complaint I have is their could be a better way to seal the plugs where they connect to the underside of the spindle drum, for less leaking around the connection point.i do realize it's not a submarine but feel it's a easy fix none the less. perhaps better materials would be sufficient. ) Thanks etrailer. just the fact you check up a year latter says alot about your company)
The Retrax Pro HR and Yakima Overhaul HD is a perfect combo and works well together.
Retrax Pro XR with Rhino Rack Cross Bar set for the XR
This has greatly simplified my bicycle transport. Before I was using separate ladder rack on back of trailer, and hitch rack on truck. Compared with my prior setup, here are the improvements:
-- removes ~75 lbs from back of my trailer
-- not dealing with separate truck and camper bike racks (esp hitch rack taking up bed room while towing)
-- don't have to unload bikes to check something on camper roof
-- bikes are easier to load (even with lifting)
-- cross bars detach in seconds and lift off for full bed access or car wash (the cross bar and bike rack assembly stores on hook in garage)
-- Don't have to remove and store bike seats (they extended well past right side of trailer when on ladder rack)
-- Bikes are more protected above tonneau cover than either on hitch rack or ladder rack.
I had a solid tonneau before and liked it. Only problems with it were you could not drive with the cover up and it was a bear to remove even with the help of my wife. That truck was totaled by a drunk driver. So the replacement truck had to have an easier cover and wile I was at it, why not some racks as well?
It looks great! Fits perfectly and was a synch to install.
On the down side it is not completely dry and it did freeze up once in the winter. Other than that I do like it and gave it 4 stars
Thanks etrailer. Ordered the Yakima Overhaul ladder racks and the Retrax tonneau cover. It’s the perfect solution for our camping/kayaking trips. Both products are solid and top notch. Installation was a breeze on my 20 Tundra.
Showed up quickly, this is the 3rd purchase from etrailer.com, they have great customer service, they know their products, prices are reasonable and they ship fast. I also purchased the Curt Hitch from them.
Product looks great and operates as advertised. Very sturdy. You can put it together by yourself but just watch lifting it (there is a good video on YTube). Haven't had it in the rain yet to see how "water resistant" it is but the see potential gaps in the front rubber seal.
Order was processed quickly and arrive in the specified shipping time. Easy two person install and fine tuning is an easy one person job. Great quality top and rugged. Perfect top for your pickup. Bed stays water tight so storing sleeping bags or luggage is no problem on long trips.
This is the best cover I have ever owned. It is such high quality and amazingly designed. Thank you etrailer.
Love everything about the cover except.... Retrax should put a clear tape on the back lip. It’s an easy place to chip the powder coat and some clear tape would have kept it perfect after a year. Otherwise I couldn’t be happier. If you purchase one I would suggest doing what I think the manufacturer should have done to begin with.
Fit perfect, and arrived as promised. It was a great purchasing experience, and I would do it again.
I purchased this cover for my 2020 F-350 standard bed truck because I tow a fifth wheel RV and didn't want to gamble on a folding or roll-up cover that may or may not get in the way. The loss of bed space is certainly a down side, but I think the ruggedness and secure feel make up for it. The next challenge I have is living in Michigan with the snow and ice combined with not regularly keeping my truck inside a heated garage. The cover gets snow and ice build up on it which makes it very challenging to open. This isn't really a complaint, just something for potential buyers to think about.
My one issue with this cover is the high price combined with this cover having some water intrusion issues. It definitely leaks at the corners where the side rails, retractable cover and tailgate all come together. It also leaks from somewhere else causing water to drip on my 5th wheel hitch. I cannot tell if it is leaking between the actual slats, or if maybe it is leaking from the bedrail somewhere and running down the slats underneath and then dripping down. Regardless, for the price, I had hoped for the cover to be more waterproof without the need to investigate time troubleshooting leaks and trying to correct them.
It leaks in the rain - having a local shop look at it this week. Leaks a bit on the side but it's also leaking on top in a couple of areas - was hoping it would be a bit more waterproof for the inside of the truck
Perfect in every way, just what we needed for on the road, the locking feature is awesome.
I have a local dealer I normally buy my truck accessories from. For the RetraxPro XR they quoted me $800.00 more than I could get from etrailer. Drawback was I had to install it myself. I liked the fact that I didn't have to drill any holes into my truck's bedrails so I decided to put it on myself. I followed the instructions and adjusted everything the way I was told. 45 mins later, it was installed by myself and haven't had to re-adjust since. I always have people ask me about it. It looks great, operates easily, doesn't freeze up in the winter months, locks in any position and is a great addition to my truck accessories. Purchasing it from etrailer was simple, saved me a lot of money and arrived with no damage. I now look to etrailer for my truck and RV accessories. I've had to contact them in the past for different items and the support is wonderful. Thanks etrailer...
Well designed and durable tonneau cover. Easy to install and works like a charm a year later. Highly recommend if you have the $$.
My first impression is that this is one heavy duty and sturdy Tonneau cover. I'll put an emphasis on the word heavy. I have an 8 foot bed on my 2022 Silverado 3500HD and this added significant weight to the top and a bit to the rails. Assembly took two of us and we had one more set of hands to set it in place during installation. My estimate is that the assembled weight is about 120 pounds. No issues with the overall installation, and watching the several online and the Etrailer videos helped. It took us three hours to assemble and install it. However, there was a cracked 2"x2" area on one of the plastic side covers of the box that houses the rolled-up cover. Apparently this cracked / broke during shipping. I fixed this during assembly rather than delay installation. I was a bit surprised that vulnerable and brittle plastic material was used for construction of this component. The box itself is metal. I reinforced it with a 4"x4" metal plate and plastic epoxy to support the mounting bolt at the center of the broken plastic piece. Much stronger than new. A photo was taken of the cracked area that can be supplied to Retrax if they are interested. Otherwise, I'm pleased with the cover. It was simple to align and adjust. Looks great, and the fit is perfect. It works smoothly, but does require some muscle power to pull it out of the front box to close it. Opening is effortless as it glides into the box at the front of the bed. Hopefully it will provide years of service.
great transaction
Great cover for a 2020 Ram 1500. I primarily use it to haul my bikes and kayaks around, and it's awesome for keeping gear secure. If you have the multifunction tailgate, you have to do a little extra work, but there is a great YT video that walks you through it. I was able to install the whole thing in about an hour. It pairs great with the Yakima racks (also purchased here), too. Service from etrailer was great both times. Pricey but totally worth it.
It helps to have an individual customer service representative, Terri N is my go to representative for all my etrailer purchasing. Terri follows my orders throughout the process, and follows up after delivery.
Ordering the Retrax Pro Xr was not different, I am usually on a timeline and cannot wait weeks for the standard delivery process; the Retrax Pro XR was delivered in less that a week. Two boxes, well packed, and protected arrived, ready for installation. Installation took around 1 1/2 hours, with most of it being done by myself. You will need another body to lift the unit into the truck bed, after that it is an easy process of alignment and anchoring. I had to adjust my rail width, to get under the maximum allowed dimensional tolerance.
As the instruction indicated the unit will loosen after a few uses; still requiring some effort to slide it, but that is a good thing.
It is very well made, with a clean fit and finish.
great cover looks great, works great. Keeps things in the bed clean and dry. Had it professionally on a brand new ram 2500 last year. It fit perfect. Traded that truck in last week for a 3500 ram. Took thirty minutes to get off the old truck and thirty minutes to get on new truck with my Yakima roof rack still on it. The only thing I would mention is that you lose some bed space. It has about 7" clearance below it at the cab end and is about ten inches deep. I figured that when I bought it but something you should consider.
