Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

These chains are great for giving you a little extra traction in the snow. But if you live somewhere where you experience heavy snow often, you'll definitely want something more heavy duty than cables. Because these cable chains are lightweight and don't take up a lot of storage space, they are also perfect for keeping in your trunk if you occasionally travel through areas that require you to have chains on hand.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's user manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Cable Chains

Installing these chains is simple.

Lay chains on the ground.

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Drape chain over tire.

2. Drape the chain over the tire or lay the chain out and drive onto it.

Connect cable behind tire.

3. Reach around to the back of the tire and fasten the rear side cable by running the end with the metal stops through the eye of the hook on the opposite end.

Secure excess cable.

4. Run any excess side cable through the metal clip.

Repeat around front.

5. Repeat this process on the front side of the tire.

Install rubber adjusters

6. Drive forward 1 car length, then check the chain and hand tighten it again if needed.

Rubber adjusters (sold separately) are recommended to help ensure a tight fit. Connect these to the front side of the cable in a star pattern. Make sure the hooks face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Easy to put on tires but difficult to place back inside carry bag after use. Would be nice if carry bag was larger.

I just ordered a second set of these like I should have from the start. I was using one set of chains on my FWD car. Getting a second pair so I will have chains on all of my tires. These chains fit and performed perfectly.

My order came very fast, and after receiving my order, I did a test run. I have a 2020 Toyota RAV4, the chain cable fitted perfectly.

Hopefully I never get to use them.

Hyundai

I purchased a set of tire snow chains for a 2014 Hyundai Sante Fe Sport AWD. The price was reasonable and I received them in a reasonable time period. The quality of the chains were great, and they came with their own carry case.
I did add additional / optional rubber support tensioning straps.
These items will stay with this vehicle for as long as I own it.

Thank you, Rich Rossi

2022 Ram ProMaster 3500

I tried to fit it in on the driveway before going out to snow country.
It fitted good and much cheaper than buying it from [online].
Needed the cable instead of chains since the tire figment is tight against the wheel well.

Hello, yes I love the tire chains. Didn't get any snow last year. I used them for the first time this year. They worked great. Thank you

I like the tire chains a lot. I went camping in the badlands and was caught in a blizzard. The snow drifts were extremely high. I put the tire chains on very easy and worked great driving out of the badlands in North Dakota. Thank you so much. Its a great product.

2019 Toyota RAV4

Ordered this set of tire chains (Titan TC2019) from etrailer because I have previously had good dealings with the company, and have seen them sell good quality products. Also, I was able to determine precisely, from their website, the kind of chains that would be best, and that would fit my tires (not always easy on other websites). These tires are on a 2019 RAV4 with 225-60-18 tires (a bit unusual size).

Fitment: The cross-chains are just right for 225 and slightly wider tires. However, the edge cables (around the tire circumference) are right at being too long, but tighteners should take up the slack that develops (and extra length makes them easier to install). Higher profile 225-70-18 winter tread tires would fit perfectly, I think.

Quality: The chains themselves appear to be sturdily constructed--cable "chains," for light weight use on SUVs (not for heavily loaded pickups or trailer towing). The cross-link connectors are well-designed, and appear to be heavy enough. The chain installation fasteners are good--work easily and look to be quite secure.

Usage: They are cables, not chains; very adequate for light snow, or plowed and sanded surfaces, and, being cables, they are easily stowed. As cables, although they'll work in deep snow, yet true chains will work much better. These will be adequate on hard ice (drive carefully!), but there are better choices for ice. But as cables, they don't require much clearance room to function--plenty of room on the RAV4. They attach firmly, and appear to be easy to install with freezing fingers (if that can be said of any tire chain!). They have the right sort of pieces and layers over the cross-tie cables to provide traction, long life and stay secure. I'll see how they work when I hit the snow--to see if they hold up as well as previous similar traction devices I have used.

Down side: The bag they come in has *flimsy* zippers. Compress the cables well before you try to close the bag on them! I had to cross bungee them to get them into the bag, and then again after they were in the bag. (Why did they fit in the bag so well when they were packed in China???)

Summary: I have only fitted them on the tire to verify correct choice. I have used this kind of "chains" (cables) in the past and found them to be perfectly adequate for traction and long life. These look like a good purchase for my use.

I bought these chains for my 5th wheel trailer due to the fact I will be traveling through some mountains during the winter time and wanted to be prepared. I received the chains and put them on to test fit and they fit well and go on easily. The other nice part is that they hug the tire fairly well so that it shouldn't grab any fender well or trim pieces.

by:

I haven't had the opportunity to use them yet. But I did a test fit. They fit very nicely on my 225/75R16 tires. It snugged up nicely even without the rubber adjusters.

Getting new cables for an Audi Q5 - tight timeframe to head up to the snow - etrailer walked me through my options clearly, made a recommendation, and shipped the product to me expedited so I could make the trip. Cables arrived 3 days early! Great company, great experience.

by:

I ordered these for a trip I was taking that had a high chance of snow on the roads. I haven’t had to use them yet but I did install them before I left to ensure they fit. The videos were a big help showing how to use them. They shipped and arrived just as stated on the site.

by:

Haven’t used them on my motorhome yet. Seem to be of a good quality. Only gave three stars because it’s hard to view something that you purchased just in case you might need it. In this case I hope I never come back to review them!

Easy to install and comes in a nice storage bag. Not bulky like other chains I have used in the past. Etrailer is the best to order through. The process is easy and items always ship fast.

Package arrived yesterday. All components included in a convenient storage bag. Have not yet had an opportunity to use the product.

Order 2 pairs for my car, got 2 different cables, one set blue the other set green. You can tell instantly because the bags are blue and green and oddly the different colors weight different amounts. Emailed customer service to get cables that match and they said that the label invoice number are the same on both bags, So it's the same product. So if you don't care that you can get 2 different colors from ordering 2 sets in the same order you can try for these.

by:

The bag is in rough shape. Torn handle, covered in stains and dirt. Cable rollers have rust all over them. Entire kit looks used

  • Snow Cables for 2020 ProMaster 1500 Tire Size LT225/75R16
For your tire size of 225/75R16 that you have on your 2020 Ram Promaster 1500 the correct size tire cables would be the part # TC2019. These are great for emergency use as well as for getting through check points. You'll also want some tensioners too with # PW105.

  • Snow Tire Chain Recommendation for 2019 Audi Q5
Yes, if you are going to be in an area where there is going to be snow, like in Colorado for skiing, you are going to need snow chains for safety. In fact, you may encounter signs that say traction devices are required, so it is a very good idea to have them. I looked up the owner's manual of your 2019 Audi Q5, and it states that you can use tire chains, but they need to be on the rear wheels only. The best option for snow tire chains for your Audi are the Konig Self-Tensioning Snow Tire...

  • Can Snow Chains Be Installed on Front and Back Tires of AWD 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe
The Titan Chain Cable Snow Tire Chains # TC2019 will fit 235/55-19 tires and according to the online manual for your 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe it's okay to install chains on the front and rear tires on AWD models (only front tires for 2WD models). Please note that cable chains don't provide much traction and are basically only good for staying legal where chains are required. If you're wanting chains to actually help with traction then I recommend tossing the cable chains and upgrading to...

Cable chains, like the Titan Chain Cable Tire Chains part # TC2019, do not have any type of tightening built into them so rubber adjusters are almost always needed. For adjusters I recommend the Glacier Multi-Arm, part # PW103.
