Overall it appears to be a very well thought out product. Instruction sheet packed with lock system is close to being worthless. Very dark, murky graphics. Use the etrailer install video which is very good. For the price I would expect a better quality lock cylinder, at least all metal vs plastic. Instead of grinding down the handle mounting washers I simply dug around in my junk box and came up with stainless steel bolts, lock and flat washers that were a perfect fit. I also added a dab of white lithium grease on several points to try and make a smoother lock/unlock transition. I chose the manual version because I couldn't see the need for the tailgate to lock and unlock every time I enter and leave the truck. I will leave it unlocked unless I have something to secure. This goes quite well with my Peragon tonneau cover. I would recommend it.
The PAL 6100 is the manual tailgate lock kit for the Honda Ridgeline pickup. Those who own them know that Honda did not put a lock on the tailgate that opens 2 ways. Fortunately, this kit provides an economical and easy DIY fix for the issue. The kit instructions are very straightforward and include photos of how to install the mechanism pieces. Once you get the tailgate cover off and look at the photos the process of install takes 20-30 minutes. Easy. Unlike many instructions today, these are well written and the photos add real value. The quality of the product seems well engineered. Combination of plastic and metal but it all works as it should. Makes you wonder why the engineers at Honda didn't do this from the start. Thankfully, PopNLock put this together. This really helps now that I also have a rolling metal bed cover on the truck. I really recommend this product for those in same situation. Also, very pleased with the service from etrailer.com. The guys there followed up on the order, shipping, etc. Great service and communication. I recommend them as well.
Installation was straightforward. I had a little (very little) interference with the locking mechanism I used a little file I used, to correct.
Even so, there is the slightest hang up in the handle that binds slightly.
Overall, the security of the lock is worth the price and nuances
This lock is exactly what I was looking for, it was a easy installation, looks good works perfect. Now I don't worry about anything being taken from the bed once I get my shell put on.
Could use installation instructions but great product
Installed the Pop and Lock manual system along with a new tonneau top. The Pop & Lock is a great product and the you tube video was extremely helpful, could not be happier with this product.
Overall, the installation was fairly easy. The video provided by Etrailer was excellent. The lock works but seemed a little tight. I loosened last screw on post and is working better. Delivery was quick. Pleased with purchase.
This kit looks factory. Very impressed. Following their excellent instructions on YouTube the total install time took me under 30 minutes.
Now with the locking aluminum roll up bed cover I have, the bed on addition to the truck can be locked which is a really great feature.

I just installed the pop n lock on my 06 Ridgeline. Wish I did it sooner. Looks great and very functional. This solved a problem that Honda neglected to address in its Gen 1 model, which was locking the tailgate. The video made the install very simple and straightforward. I did not have the issue that many others had with reinstalling the top tailgate cover. I would recommend this product without hesitation.
Went in as described in the video, though it took me a bit longer.
A round file would be handy for smoothing the large hole you will drill.
When first installed, the mechanism was too stiff to allow turning the key smoothly. Had to remove the lock mechanism and very gently bend the small tab that was rubbing on existing hardware. That did the trick.
All in all, a pretty easy installation, even for someone who is not terribly mechanical
The lock went on fine, but after a while I noticed it was harder than normal to open. The handle ended up breaking and since my tonneau cover latches from the inside, without being able to open the tailgate I wasn't able to get into the back of my truck at all for several days.
I won't disclose how I eventually got the tailgate open because I don't want to reveal how to break into one (for obvious reasons), but after I finally got the tailgate open I discovered the problem. On the tab that actually prevents the handle from being opened when it's locked, the screw was loose and was not moving the tab completely out of the way of the handle allowing it to open properly.
So when I reinstalled the lock with a new handle, I used blue Loctite on the screw to keep it from coming loose again. The screw on this lock should have had a lock washer or at least some sort of thread locker to prevent this from happening. Having to replace the tailgate handle because of a loose screw from the factory should have never happened. Not happy.
Sticking internally, well greased. Sucks
Took about 15 min. To get it installed and it seems to be working correctly will give it some time and see how it does

Easy to install, straight forward instructions. There was a problem with the mechanism, which was replaced at no charge. It was worked flawlessly for the past year, allowing me to lock my tailgate. Excellent.
I had to replace some plastic interface parts, after unhooking them they just feel apart, the product worked well, used lithium grease on all tail gate moving parts to aid ease of use. Works excellent!
This kit has been a great giver of peace of mind for things in my truck's box. It was straightforward to install (the video was very helpful), and took me - an average owner - less that 1 hour to install. Yes, one has to carry an extra key but without any way to lock up my box (covered with a folding lid), this is a big help.
It is a little stiff to turn, but that is no big deal.
Yes, the lock is installed and working perfectly. I watched the you-tube video and installation was a breeze. My wife and I are soon departing on a year long camping trip across the U.S. and as you can imagine we have alot of camping gear stored in the bed of the truck and I needed a way to ensure it was secured. Great product. Very easy to install by watching etrailer’s video. Perfect fit, and works great, looks factory, and now I can lock the tailgate and protect my tools. The color of the Pal6102 (grey) matches my truck perfect. You can’t go wrong with this product to secure the back of your truck.
I installed the lock 90 days ago, and wanted to give it a little time before reviewing.
Installation was simple - at least if you've ever been into the tailgate guts before. I have many times as I had a tailgate lock that tapped into the automatic lock circuit in my truck. That actuator was prone to failure. That's why I opted to replace that system with this manual lock. The only downside of a manual lock is that, of course, it's manual. So you have to check and make sure it's locked, and it takes your key to unlock it. But in my book that inconvenience is worth the mechanical reliability. I recently opened the tailgate back up to see how the system was doing. It looks great: no rust, no gunk collecting on moving parts. And it works perfectly. If you want mechanical reliability, this is the way to go.
