Key on the Pop & Lock Manual Tailgate Lock is Hard to Remove
Updated 11/02/2018 | Published 11/01/2018 >
Question:
I purchased one of these for my 2014 Honda ridgeline a few years back. After installation it is very finicky to get it to lock, key has to be just right. Sometimes it takes several try’s to get it to work properly. It seems it would be better suited to be able to remove key in any direction, all the way left locked, and right unlocked. I am confident in the install as I read directions and if I recall watched a video. Is there a remedy or upgrade. Thank you

I spoke to my contact at Pop & Lock about the Pop & Lock Custom Tailgate Lock part # PAL6102 on your 2014 Honda Ridgeline. They stated that one of the connecting rods or linkages may or is coming loose. What you will want to do is remove the trim panel on the tailgate and then inspect the locking mechanism in the rear.
Place the key into the keyhole and turn it back and forth while making note of the square cutout on the linkage directly behind the lock core. This connection between the plate and through bolt should be tight, with little play. Once this is checked you would then need to begin following the linkage plates and connecting rods while you turn the lock to see if anything is loose or needs adjusted. It may also help to spray the joints down with some grease spray.
If all else fails, you may want to disassemble the lock and then reinstall. Unfortunately, this is the only advice I have for you at this time but if there is anything else I can do to help please let me know. Pop and Lock was not able to provide any procedures for the above issue.
