Hi, everyone. Aiden here with etrailer.com. And today we're gonna be taking a look at these two trailer couplers from Fulton. These are their fast lock couplers and they're gonna be pretty much the exact same both compatible with a two inch ball both featuring a three inch channel here. So just make sure you pick out the right one for your ball mount and for your trailer. Let's check them out.
So right away, really the only difference between these two is this larger one is going to be a 5,000 pound weight capacity and our smaller or shorter one here is going to be a 3,500 pound weight capacity. So again, just look at what you're gonna be hauling and what kind of capacity you need and pick the right one out for you. They're both gonna mount up the same way though. They've got a three inch hole spacing center to center for those side mounting holes. So all we had to do was just take out our old hardware from our old coupler and pop this one right in, and it was a direct replacement.
One minor thing that we did notice when we we're looking at these is that this 3,500 pound one does have a slightly longer lever here. The actual trigger for the latch right there is the same but this little part that covers it is a bit longer on this one. Like we just mentioned, they do have that trigger style latch. It is pretty easy to operate, get it all locked down. And then of course we'd want to run a pin or maybe even a locking pin through here to make sure it's secure.
You can find those at our site here if you need one. And overall this does feel pretty smooth when I'm operating it. One thing I'd worry about is the longevity of that, though. That is sort of a problem that I've seen with this trigger style latch is that it might be really smooth out of the box but over a long period of time, these parts might begin to seize up a bit, which is why some of those easy latch ones are a bit nicer and easier to use. But we do have a fair few reviews on our site from people who have had this for a year or more saying that it's actually held up really well and that the coating has protected it from any sort of rest or corrosion.
So that's good to hear. And you can see here on the inside of the one that's not installed, as I'm opening and closing that lever, everything in here with the jaw moves really smoothly. So that's really great to see too. These are both gonna have a zinc coating, so that should keep things nice and resistant to rust and corrosion, water shouldn't be too much of an issue especially if you're leaving it outside. Like I mentioned before, the install process is really simple. We just had to take our old one off, put the new one in its place and all the holes lined up pretty well. So just check out how we did it. Now, the first thing you wanna do is make sure you get the old coupler removed and more than likely, if you don't have new hardware set aside you will wanna save this hardware that you take off because the new one will not come with hardware. Then we can take our new coupler and just slide it over where that old one was. And luckily all of our previous holes will line up as well, because we checked that three inch hole spacing. And then we can just run our old hardware back through to attach it. So our holes from the old coupler didn't line up perfectly. All we had to do was just come back through with the drill bit. We kind of use the coupler as a template and just enlarged the holes a bit and everything's fitting much better now. And that's about it for the install. Really, the only thing you gotta worry about is if that hole spacing is correct from your old coupler and if need be enlarge those holes. And then just making sure you've got hardware, whether you're reusing or picking up some new ones. Other than that, though, that's it for this Fulton coupler. Thanks for watching..
