Features to know about

Smooth Braking for Heavy Loads: Hydraulic Surge Power Rated for 8,000 lbs GTW

This Demco hydraulic brake actuator delivers dependable stopping power for trailers with hydraulic disc brakes. It’s built to handle up to 8,000 lbs gross towing weight and 800 lbs maximum tongue weight. When your tow vehicle slows down, the surge system automatically applies pressure through the composite master cylinder for smooth and balanced braking without electronics or extra controllers to worry about.

Built to Last: Zinc-Plated Steel with 500-Hour Salt Spray Rating

Corrosion is no match for this actuator. Its heavy-duty steel body is coated in durable zinc with a 500-hour salt spray rating, so it stands up well in wet or marine environments. The composite master cylinder made of glass-reinforced nylon adds even more protection against rust and pitting, keeping everything working smoothly season after season.

Flexible Setup: 8” Adjustable Channel with 3 Mounting Positions

The 8" adjustable channel makes it easy to line up your coupler just right. It has three different mounting positions that let you set the height so the trailer sits level. Whether you’re using a standard ball coupler, a lunette ring, or a clevis attachment (each sold separately), the channel gives you that flexibility without extra fabrication work.

Clean Operation: Enclosed Master Cylinder Design

The large fluid reservoir and automotive-style diaphragm cap help keep the hydraulic system sealed tight. That closed design prevents contamination of the brake fluid and reduces maintenance over time. Inside, an acetal copolymer liner ensures smooth telescoping every time the actuator engages, so braking remains consistent through long trips and heavy use.

Ready for Safety Add-Ons: Breakaway Included

A built-in breakaway setup helps secure your trailer if it ever disconnects from the hitch during towing. For added convenience when backing up, this model can be paired with an optional electric lockout solenoid (sold separately), giving you full control and peace of mind when maneuvering in tight spots.

Video Transcript for Checking Out the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator-DM8758721

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the Demco Hydraulic Disc Brake Actuator with the eight inch adjustable channel center position and has an 8,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this hydraulic actuator activates your trailer's brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. Basically what happens is when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and the momentum will push your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. So with the surge brake system, this actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. And basically when this happens, the actuator, the inner portion here, will slide back and apply force to the master cylinder in the back here and this in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes.

Now, this actuator uses an acetal copolymer lining on the inside here, provides a nice smooth operation as the actuator telescopes in and out. This one here has an adjustable channel, offers three different mounting positions for your coupler. Now, the coupler's not included. We do sell that separately on our website. The channel height on this if we measure it from the very bottom to the very top is eight inches.

The inside width on the channel is gonna be right at three inches wide. Now this is a heavy duty steel construction, has a nice sink plated finish on it to prevent corrosion. It does use a composite master cylinder, right back here. It is very durable and efficient. It is glass reinforced nylon construction which will resist rusting corrosion and it is a large reservoir, provides increased capacity for your brake fluid.

The very top here you notice it has your large, automotive style diaphragm cap, which will create a completely enclosed system, helps prevent contamination of the brake fluid. Now this does include the breakaway cable and the hook that is required by law. But if you notice here, here's your cable and then your hook on this end with the keeper and the reason it's require by law, this breakaway system will prevent a trailer runaway situation. Basically, when you install this and hook a to your tow vehicle, you'll take this hook and hook this to your tow vehicle. And then what'll happen is, if by chance this comes disconnected from your tow vehicle, it will pull this cable, which would activate this lever, which would then apply the pressure in the master cylinder to the brakes to keep the trailer from a runaway situation.

Now this is a bolt-on installation. It does mount to a straight three inch wide trailer tow. This part has made the USA again, the application for this actuator is trailers with hydraulic disc brakes. Gross towing weight capacity on this is 8,000 pounds, maximum tongue weight of 800 pounds. It also goes by the part number which is stamped on here of model DA91. One last note I do wanna mention is because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout in the back here, it is recommended that you equip the trailer with either the reverse lockout solenoid that screws into the master cylinder or to have free backing brakes on your trailer so that you can drive in reverse without this actuator triggering your trailer's brakes. But that should do it for the review on the Demco Hydraulic Disc Brake Actuator with the eight inch adjustable channel center position and an 8,000 pound gross towing weight capacity..

a little too heavy for my 1000lb traile r.

Upon receiving this surge actuator, we have taken a close look at the overall design and build quality which are excellent! The slide mechanism is simple to disassemble for maintenance and very robust. We are still a ways off from road testing as our trailer is still a work in progress but we were so confident in the design that we already purchased another.
I would recommend this product.
