Video Transcript for Review of Dexter Hydraulic Driver Side Drum Brake Parking Brake - DX99EY

Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look together at this Dexter hydraulic driver side drum brake with parking brake lever. Now this Dexter hydraulic drum brake is a complete replacement brake assembly for the driver's side of a trailer with a 3,500 pound axle. This is designed to fit a 10 inch in diameter by two and a quarter inch wide brake drum. And this is going to work with hydraulic surge brake systems. Now one of the main things that sets this assembly apart is going to be the parking brake lever that you can see right here.

So along with providing the normal hydraulic braking while traveling forward, this is going to allow the trailer to have additional holding power when it's parked. That's gonna make the parking brake feature an important consideration when determining whether this is going to be the right replacement for your trailer. So this is a uni servo or single servo brake assembly because it comes as a complete assembly. You're replacing the brake shoes, the springs, the wheel cylinder, and related brake hardware together rather than replacing those worn components individually. Fitment is the biggest thing to verify before purchasing.

Again, this particular brake is specifically for the left hand or the driver side assembly. Most newer assemblies have a sticker to point out whether it's for the left hand or the right hand side. But if you have an assembly, maybe you're replacing assembly, it doesn't have a sticker on it and you're not too sure if it's the left or the right hand side, the easiest way to tell is looking for the primary brake shoe, and the primary brake shoe is always gonna be the shorter one. And it faces the front. So here's the front primary brake shoe.

You see the size compared to our secondary or rear brake shoe. So that primary or shorter brake shoe is always gonna point to the front. So sitting on a trailer, you can see that shorter one pointing to the front, that's gonna sit on your driver's side or left hand side. So very easy to tell if there's not a sticker on the assembly itself. Again, this is rated for a 3,500 pound trailer axle.

Requires a 10 inch by two and a quarter inch drum. It's sold exactly as you see it here, one brake assembly, not a pair.
