Galvanized Steel
Galvanized steel parts are hot-dipped in zinc after being stamped. This creates a coating that is typically 3 mil to 5 mil thick. This thick, all-around coating allows galvanized steel products to provide years of use without rusting or corroding.

After a year in service, that single keel roller on the new rear cross member had gradually broken down, so that it was getting more and more difficult to roll the boat on and off the trailer. I believe this is because the new cross member did not come with the two small tabs welded on the top center, which held a yoke of two rollers, which my original Calkins trailer had. Thankfully, I had a good friend with welding equipment, who removed the two tabs off the old rusted-out cross member, and welded them to the new cross member. I then installed the two-roller yoke on the new cross member, replacing the broken down single roller on the roller bracket. The boat unloads and loads easily on the trailer now! This set up should last much longer since the weight of the boat is now divided between two rollers instead of one on the rear cross member.

The 12” keel roller replaced a 4” one. This was a super change. It has made loading my boat much easier and the 12” roller has worked great for 1 and a half years and was easy to install.
